thermal paste provides better thermal conductivity between the component tab and metallic chassis or any heatsink. it is important, specially for the component working at high current circuits. if we use thermal pad / inulator pad. thermal paste must be applied in both sides of the thermal pad (facing to the component tab, and facing to metallic chassis) dry surface or outdated or dried thermal paste will cause to increrase the junction temperature of the component and its damage

My senior has tasked me with designing a 12V / 1A power supply without using a transformer. Despite my efforts and numerous trials, I have not been successful. I am using a capacitor-fed method where I have employed an MOV and a capacitor to step down the AC voltage. For voltage regulation, I am using a 16V zener diode to achieve the 12V output. However, when I connect a load, the output voltage drops to 6V. I have tried various approaches, but I am still struggling with the design. My senior is pressing me to complete this task, so I am reaching out for your assistance. Could you please help me with the calculations and guide me on how to correct this issue? I am wanting for your reply sir . Thank you
