My best 2 engines have been #1 Detroit Diesel series 60 12.7 liter 500hp which ran 1.8 million miles before the overhaul and 7 years after before I retired and sold it, #2 Cummins N14 460hp which went 1.4 million miles which was still going strong when I sold it.

I’m running a 2019 Mack Anthem with the MP8. It has 426,000 on it. It’s been a good engine. My employer runs all Mack’s with this power plant with minimal problems. Last employer I ran for had me in a KW 680 with the X15. It was pretty good engine for the most part. It had its issues. Freightliner I ran rarely but ran one when my KW was in for a service and it left me sit. Just completely shut down like I turned off the key.

Oil change and fuel filter change every 20k. Just had to delete it due to the DOC pressure sensor, running fine so far. Having a good mechanic that knows your engine is a plus. Also change your coolant every year to prevent rust around the cylinder liners that a plus to. Take care of your engine and it will take care of you, I'm very strict about engine maintenance that's the heart of the truck. Thanks Ryan your knowledge is very appreciated 🙏 👍

There are always warning lights displayed on the dash, we are told to carry on driving. Transmissions can be a bit erratic, but overall is a quite a nice truck to drive.

I take umbrige that you mentioned Detroit Seies 60 but did not mention my engine: Commins N14 Celect Plus.
My thoughts: Macks are slow, Deries 60s are good when running empty, and Volvos are good when bobtailing.
Caterpillars are strong but are very, very, very, thirsty. Hence, I chose Cummins N14 so that I get decent fuel mileage and I do not lose speed going up most mid-western hills; Eaton 13-speed assists in this.

Yep the Mack MP8 is a Volvo power plant. And in all honesty they are a fine powerplant. People make a big thing about the problems they have with injector cups. And yes they do go wrong, but Cummins also suffer from the same problem.
As for Paccar I am very biased, they are an excellent power plant and my first choice when looking for a new truck. As for the software you definitely can get the software a lot cheaper now, as it is widely advertised through online websites. Obviously it is not from Paccar but it is a perfect copy. ( Only available from European websites I believe ). Keep up the good work Ryan best Truck website on RUclips .

Sweet you like the cummins. Ive been a fan of them since they were the choice of Dodge. I love the early 2000s Dodge PU. My future KW next gen will have a Cummins. That next gen KW is a beauty. Waiting F*%K paying FET. 😂 Thanks, love your vids.

What about the Cummins X15? I just got my truck with my company dedicated route and its a 2023 International LT with only 5,600 miles on it. Has the X15. I was trained in a 2022 DD15 Cascadia and it feels both are similar in power maybe the edge to the detroit. Any thoughts?

Is the n14 still viable for a few more years if it's in a newer glider? My DD15 has been in the shop nonstop for the past 5 months for codes that nobody can figure out how to fix. So I'm a motivated seller and have been looking closely at the other brands, lately leaning toward Cummins for the high availability of shops, but you might have just sold me with your insights on their software and free manuals. I love supporting those rare companies that do things the right way, and Cummins sounds like they might be way above the rest in that aspect. It sure would be nice to find a newer Cummins pre-emmission glider for sale right now, as long as there's still good parts availability.

Good thinkin man! I got an N14 on the farm and that's the engine that was in the trucks I started driving over the road. Man they chug like a locomotive up the mountains! Man they got torque! Them red tops are good engines! That'd be my next choice like youre thinking in a older glider kit. Damn I wish they still offered those!

Cummins have been great to my family for 2 generations. I've had them in Louisville Fords IHC Volvo whites and now Im driving a '16 Cascadia daycab semi dump. Love the old DM MACKs
Not a fan of Volvo. Though they do crash well. The last one I ran no Nope NADA
I've passed on driving jobs because they ran Volvo. I've never ran a PACCAR.
We have Prostars at work. They've offered me one. NOPE IHC died when they went to a single piece windshield.
I agree with you on the delete . DONT DO IT. I'd love to have an old NTC in a Transtar COE. Like dad had when I was a kid. But we'll just have to make the best out of these emissions lemons we can.

I have 2 2017 N13 prostars in my fleet, 1 I’ve been happy with, it’s done amazing. The second I’m on the fence about, as it’s had the def sensor go out and had to wait 5-6 weeks to get it back, but that was a brand wide problem, not international. But then a month later the scr was cracked and had to spend 13.4k to get a brand new scr. Since then it’s been decent, but we will see how it holds up the rest of the year

i have a 2016 n13b i love it ..doser valve went bad but under warranty from international at that..best 21k spent and the best 2 years and still kicking. it was a prime lease return with 385xxx when i got it in 2020. i haul heavy cans so i really abuse it too ..i keep up on pms ...and i can say knock on wood i haven't been down the last 2 years. when they replace the doser valve i planned it while i was on vaction ..

I have the 2014 prostar w/ Mac force N13 bought with 620000 on it put about 40 k on it have put about 10k into it . New high pressure fuel pump and ac compressor and Davco fuel filter assy. I am pretty happy with its driving and starting in very cold but my first truck only paid 13k for it so have about 24k into it so I guess that isn't too bad considering prices right now. guess we will see how this year goes would like to get at least another 120k out if it without something major like EGR cooler or turbo etc. Thanks Ryan for all your great advice.
