  • In this video we show how we built a crossed legged wooden dining table diy. In 8 simple steps we show you how we built a wooden table from scratch.
This project is easy to build and only requires some basic tools. The table with crossed legs was built with wood and works as well as a dining table for the kitchen as well as the living room.
For this project, a 70 x 45 mm rule was used to make the cross legs. The table top was made of 45 x 170 mm rule to give a really solid feeling of the table.
First, the wood for the table top was planed in a machined planer. The first leg was measured and cut to the correct length. Where the legs meet, a socket was cut and cut out with a chisel. The surface of the recess was leveled with a wooden file.
The first leg of this wooden dining table diy was then used as a template for the other three legs and the same thing was done with them. With four legs they could be mounted. Plenty of wood glue was used and wood screws that tightened the construction.
A transverse rule was mounted between the cross legs to provide better stability to the structure and provide a flat surface for the table top to lie on. The transverse bolt was also glued and screwed into countersunk holes.
The two cross legs were linked with another horizontal rule in the legs' facing cross and now the frame of the table was ready.
On top of the frame were laid the rough wooden beams that would become the table top. They were screwed on from below to hide the screw heads from being visible. The table surface was then cut to the correct length with a saw.
Now the corners were rounded to soft fine and the entire table surface was planed evenly with a hand planer. A time-consuming job that requires accuracy.
The wooden dining table diy was not completely completed yet, but it needed to be treated so as not to be damaged by water and coffe stains. The table should be used indoors and needed proper protection to survive many years of everyday use. Therefore, a hard wax oil was chosen as the finish.
We also wanted the table to have a darker shade and more rustic in its appearance. So we chose to use a high quality hard wax oil with a warm dark shade.
The hard wax oil was brushed in thin layers in two coats before the table was completely completed.
    Material: Spruce 45 x 70 mm, 45 x 170 and 28 x 70 mm
Fixing elements: Wood adhesive, Wood screws C4 40 mm, 70 mm and 100 mm
    Paint: Hard wax oil
