Thanks for another informative video Bino! As a custom cabinet maker I had to deal with millimeters. There's 25.4 mm to one inch. You can multiply the diameter of the cord times 5 to achieve your tail length as well. What ever is easier to the individual. I noticed that you used a lighter this time instead of your mini-torch that you used in your "Whipping Video". Since I learned to whip from your video, I discovered that I prefer using a torch because lighters leave soot. I never thought about undoing a knot to precisely determine the length of cord needed. I also have made a lanyard using one of your videos. That's where I truly realized how much rope is consumed in knots.

Great explanation of the basics. Try white Gorilla glue on the ends. It really helps for cordage that needs to fit through tight holes such as the Hitch Hiker.

I always appreciate learning something from every one of your videos. I hav3 a question regarding Prusik cord. I’m an old timer who just recently hot into saddle hunting. I’ve chosen to use Prusik knots on my tree tether and my lineman’s rope, instead of mechanical devices. Many experienced saddle hunters are recommending heat resistant cord for those making their own Prusik loops, but their reasons don’t seem to apply for the simple task of sitting in a tree saddle while being supported by a tether or lineman’s rope. When would it be a wise necessity for a saddle hunter (or any tree climbing activity) to use heat resistant Prusik cord?
I use HRCS cord and it's heat resistant also same with BEE line. the main reason is when you descend there is a lot of friction on you rope. It's not really necessary but it's nice to know that you won't melt your line.

I much prefer making my own prussics and hitch cords over buying sewn ones. The only thing i dont like is it makes using on a hitch climber pully a little bulky. Keep up the great videos!
I like to make my own sometimes but lately I've been buying 24" 8mm HRC spliced I cord because it the perect length for me. Will do take care!
Great video Bino. I want to make my own prusik cord to climb on with a DMM Hitch Climber pulley. My climbing rope is Yale XTC 1/2". What diameter cord should I use and what length to include enough to tie the knots? I'll most likely be using the Michoacan or Blakes hitches.
8 or 9mm will work if you are making your own you'll need one foot for each double fisherman's and what ever length you want for your hitch.

I think it might be better to buy. The rings are about $20 each and if you use a knot it could get stuck in a crotch. Notch has some for $40- $50 and Rope logic has an adjustable one for around $80.

Great info. I have a 15mm main rope for logging. Pulling stumps, and rigging trunks to control fall. I’m not climbing. What diameter rope do I need to make a progress capture prusik on a 15mm diameter main load rope?
I have to start by saying I've never used a prussik on 15mm rope so I asked good friend of mine Doug Wright from Bishop Company an Arborist supply store. He explained that you need to have 3mm difference and that a 10,9 or 8mm will work but you have to have cordage that is rated for the weight you're using. I hope this helps. Take care!
Hello mr bino i had a question in 3/4" tenex rope with the notch thimle at the end is 16' could i use a prusik cord to descend down a palm tree and could a blakes be worth it instead onn a longer rope but same material and thickness just 100 feet better to start with?

I have a play list of climbing hitches and I use the prusik with double fisherman's in some of them. The VT and the XT also some more.

I squirt superglue into the tips of my cord. Locks them tight. I do my boot laces the same way.
That works. I used to whip them and then use supper glue. Now I just whip them and melt the whipping string that usually holds up for me.

I don't know a good place to have rope spliced. I asked a few of my friends and the had the same answer as me. When I want spliced rope I just buy it that way. Sorry I don't have that good of an answer for you.

Hello once again Bino .. I am very interested in make it my own home made PRUSIKs ..you know those from the store aren't cheap...I am a beginner in climbing and I have a question about what size of PRUSIK cord you recommended like: 8mm. 9mm. or 10mm CORD to use it with a 1/2 inch ROPE.
I use 8mm and a 24" long cord.
@@BinoH Thank you for the easy to follow instructions. I’m using 11mm rope for a tether and a lineman’s rope. I understand from what I’ve read that an 8mm Prusik is what I should use. When you say to use a 24” long cord, is that a measurement prior to tying the my loop, or is that 24” AFTER I’ve tied my loop? I guess what I should be asking is how long is my cord from the start, before I tie anything. Also, I don’t care to use a mechanical device on my rope (like a ropeman 1). Can you recommend or link a video for a handmade tender? Thank you in advance for your reply.
Hey bino i have a question i just started climbing on srt a couple of months ago amd i was wondering how often should i be changing the prusik cords
For me it is not a matter of time when I would change out a cord more of reasons why. When you inspect your cord if it had melted damage tears in it or an hour glass shape. If you shock loaded it with sings of damage or the eyes were damaged. Those are some reasons to retire a line.

Hi, thanks for all your videos. Have learned a lot. I made some prusiks that seemed to work well at first, but now seem to bind and not slide very well, and I end up redressing my knots in mid air. I’ve only used them a few times. Using 8.3mm on 12mm climbing rope. Any ideas?
Are you using them in the MRS or SRS what hitch are you using and how long of a cord are you using?

@@BinoH I made the prusiks before watching your video by basically creating an eye, attaching it to the biner/pulley tender, tying a hitch with 5 wraps, then creating another eye down to the other side of the biner/pulley , and cutting off the excess. I thought by doing it that way I’d have the right length.

If we spend 16-inch ropes for each knot, then the total length of the rope when creating a Prusik is:
(2 x 16 inches + 12 inches = 44 inches)
44" = 112 cm
12" - the distance between the loops. Is this distance chosen correctly?

Isn't the 44" overall length too big?
It may be more the 44 inches. My short cord is 24" so if I wanted to make a cord at that length 16 X 2 =32 + 24" = 56" . If I was making a 30" cord 16 X 2 = 32 + 30"=62"
You use up a lot of cord for the knots. I hope this helps.

Ok so I was just strolling back thru n haven't seen the question so here it is can I use the same rope for my prusik knot as my main line or does the rope to make the knot have to be smaller?
Yes it has to be smaller when using it as an eye to eye but if you are using it as split tail and using a Blake's , Taut-line or prusik hitch it can be the same size.
Several RUclips videos on watched usually recommend the priussikon cord should be like half to three quarter of the climbing rope diameter if it slips, it's too big or you need more wraps
