It's weird hearing people say that their art professors say "no smudging." I'm blessed to have an art professor who just kinda lets us do what we want. He'll set a scene in the center of the studio space and we go from there. Of course, he gives pointers if your still life is just a bit to stretched, or there's something that needs corrected.
