It's amazing how the Floor era Nightwish just makes you smile, even before they started the song. That is charisma.
They are both great, but the power and energy in the Wacken version really does it for me. Maybe it's the mix but it also feels like Marko is not holding back on his belts on the Wacken version either.
Never good to compare but it's done. So here we go. I'm not sure but when Tuomas put his face in his hands at the beginning might just be because he and the rest of the band knew that this was Tarja's last concert with Nightwish. The thing is that Tarja didn't know that. Tuomas and Tarja were childhood friends so it was a really hard moment for him.
Oh, of course. Let's all feel pity for the responsible of Tarja's shameful dismissal. A hard moment for him xD

Why is it never good to compare? That’s just human nature you’re trying to deny there. Everyone has their favorite band/singer/song which is by comparison to all other bands/singers/songs.
I’d agree with you that it’s never good to trash anyone’s art, as it’s just that-art... but that’s not what he did here. It’s not what most Nightwish fans do. Tarja is a scoop of vanilla ice cream, which is wonderful... but Floor is the whole sundae with vanilla ice cream, bananas, nuts, sprinkles, whipped cream, and hot fudge! Lol.

I'm really enjoying your reactions, man. And, yes, you are absolutely right. There are...mm..medium singers, there are really good singers (including Tarja) and there is FLOOR! The one and only Floor. How can anyone Not be in love with her voice, her presence on stage. She absolutely dominates anyone watching her performances.
PS, Jukka is really on fire 🔥 during the entire song, especially on that amazing last minute. What a drummer! We really miss him!
I think this is what a lot of people don't get. It's not that Tarja was bad, she was great... not good- GREAT. That said, Floor is a Goddess. She's just on another plane of existence. It's almost like comparing Usain Bolt to a Cheetah. It's just not fair. I think all the time how lucky we all are that Tuomas and Floor found their way to each other, and we get to be the benefactors of that by-chance pairing...
And Marko and Floor were made for each other!
I think you got it backward. Actually in this song Floor looks like she is giving all she has and at some point it even sounds "too much". Tarja is singing a song written for her, she is at home, she sings super high effortlessly. What makes Floor's version better (in my opinion) is the passion she burns and the way she always knows how to sing it like it's her song. Overall, Floor has a much wider range of different styles and voices, while Tarja IS a Cheetah in her own category (lyric/operatic singing).
I have the utmost respect for both Tarja and Anette. They are honestly both fantastic singers. Floor Jansen, on the other hand. . . she is just a powerful force that touches the soul. I am a singer myself, and she blows me away. Her technique is as flawless as a human can be while carrying emotion that is unbelievable. I am a grown man, and she has made me cry probably a dozen times. I will never figure out how she does it.

So now that we've established that Marko is the safest answer to 'who is the superior Nightwish vocalist' - Bryan, seriously, you need to appease the masses and react to something like "High Hopes".
Also, if there ever is a day I'm not moved by that moment of Tuomas' vulnerability in the End of an Era show, please check my pulse because I'm probably dead.

In Tarja's version, Marco measures himself because he doesn't want to overwhelm the sound ... With Floor they both can belt together at full power and it's amazing to see.
Marco never had to measure himself with Tarja. Tuomas specifically looked for a Male singer who had the voice powerful enough to match Tarja's, so he found Marco. What are you on about?

tarja version is far better sorry, but the emotional and powerfull voice that tarja gives to the song u cant find it in floor nor annete versions, its just not there as with tarja is.

If you can't see/hear that then you need to listen to more of her Nightwish era songs. Or listen to her solo stuff, either way.

Floor not being Unique and emotional? I saw a lot of people cry during her performance :) Tarja is great, but singing the whole repertoire full opera, gives it a feeling of one big voice wave. To be honest, Floor is in my opinion even a better opera singer (you can find her singing operaa aria;s on you tube) Something magical about her voice. Tarja sounds much better these days and I love her solo albums. But for Nightwish I think Floor is a blessing. They could not have made human nature with Tarja, sorry.

I discovered Nightwish during the Tarja era and loved the songs of that era ... in small doses. Floor, with her versatility and story-telling ability and sheer skill at touching my heart over and over and over again, is the one that really made those wonderful songs come fully to life for me.
Props for having the courage to give your honest opinion about Floor vs Tarja. Most reacters refuse to compare them, because they are too worried about trying to please both camps.

I'm 56 now from belgium btw, i loved Tarja but for me after some time it was like ok nothing new , i was less interested until Floor came in, for me that was the missing link, she was born for Nightwish it was her destany , i listen every day it became the best therapy for me after my hughe depression when my girlfriend left me last year after 8 years togehter (i lost my wife to in 2004 from cancer) i stil recover but yes Nightwish and specialy Floor saved my life until today , sometimes music is more then only ...music

Agreed. Never compare. All three NW front women have made their independent contributions to the band over the decades. They are all such unique talents that blend so well together, regardless of era. Good stuff today!
Well, being a fan since Tarja's days, I prefer her version. Obviously, I like Floor's as well, but it's too "screamed" for me.

I remember reading a post about Marco mentioning that he used to hold back a bit, so he didn’t dominate the vocals, which is something he doesn’t worry about anymore.

I feel Tuomas his pain so much in this song...knowing it was the last time they would perform with her (she got fired the next morning, due to different issues, everybody has different thoughts about it)
Yuka was having a HUGE migraine this night, poor guy (insominia was the reason why he could not continu with Night Wish, but he is still very involved with them as their manager)
I have compared Tarja's voice to organic 70% chocolate. Which, if you're a chocoholic like me, is pretty amazing. And that moment near the beginning when Tuomas had to stop and take a few seconds--- remember, he and the guys KNEW that this was the LAST time she would perform with them. He HAD to be in pain.
Floor's version, the Wacken 13....it was my FIRST NW song, the FIRST time I heard them. And I was DONE, immediately. GONE. They CUT me, I will bleed forever.
I heard this song when I was 14 and it became my favorite. Tarja's dark and powerful voice stole my heart 👑💜... I like Floor but it gives the song another feeling.
Yep! I feel sorry for people who do not know Nightwish begining. Because this band is phonomenat those days. Tuomas makes those lyrics absolutly beautiful to his muse Tarja. Tuomas makes them it going Tarjas vocals like match made in heaven, Tarjas voice like out of this world. And that emotional power those songs is absolutly everything. I watching end of era allmost everyday because in those videos u can see that, everything❤
Wacken 2013 was when Floor proved that she could move Nightwish is more directions. Toumas could now stretch his wings and write anything and she could sing it.
Just goes to show, especially back to back, how Tarja helped kickstart the Nightwish sound and brought forth symphonic metal as a genre to the world, but how Floor has taken that sound and brought it to an entirely new level of emotion and range.

Great reaction. All these years later, I can still dip back into a Tarja song and feel blessed by her voice, but I will say that the ones Floor has since covered I prefer to hear Floor sing, because that's what I'm used to now. Ones Floor has not done in concerts (at least that I've not heard) I still enjoy in their original form. That's also true with Anette. But when Floor takes a song, she owns it forever.
There are a lot of songs where I've grown fond of Floor's version, but...
No amount of coping will ever get me to prefer Floor's version of Deep Silent Complete or The Siren over Tarja's. Just not gonna happen.
The same goes with Anette for Amaranth and a couple of the Imaginaerum songs (namely Storytime.)
There are just a couple of songs uniquely suited for a specific's singer's style.
I don't like all the fuss about comparisons. It's perfectly natural and you are entitled to give your opinion. That is what we are here for after all. You were complimentary about both, what's the issue with having a preference. I love them both depending on the song. But Floor is more versatile. That's a fact. 😁👍

I'm in the 'love them both for different reasons' camp. Both are amazing, but to be honest, Floor has made me cry more times than my ex-wife. Tarja was a force to be reckoned with, but Floor is a force of nature...
You hear Tarja and it's like wow, she is amazing, and she is at what she does. She has a tremendous operatic voice style. Then you hear Floor's version and it's like OMG unbelievable. Floor's voice is just so versatile, I think she can sing absolutely anything and make it song good. Then if you watch her personal RUclips channel she is the most humble person. She is just really awesome.
When you watch videos like this you see how consistent Emppu (the guitarist) is, his solo was exactly the same in 2005 and 2013 :)

Floor. No contest. Her voice and stage presence are just spot on for Nightwish.
Agreed. Tarja has two singing styles whereas with Floor we've lost count somewhere around 20. And IMO, Tarja tried too hard to have the stage presence. Floor has it naturally.
@@janitor6669 Agree 100%! Tarja seems to have her lane and doesn't veer from it. I found Nightwish back in the days she was still with the band and I walked away because I was just tired of everything sounding the same. Not saying she isn't incredibly talented, just that I don't enjoy listening to an operatic style ... has always sounded "stuffy" to me. Floor just adapts to the song, doing what is needed to elevate it where Tuomas envisioned it. The entire bands sounds as though the chains were taken off when Floor started singing. My opinion, and I'm certainly not disparaging anybody else's - each all have our taste and appreciate what sounds best to our ear ... and we all have different ears. Thank goodness.

I love both singers. Both are so incredible.. i got into NW in 2004 with Tarja, her voice attracted me . So yes, she holds a spot in my heart. But NW is Floor now. Tarja is great solo. Try Into the sun. Ive never understood the whos better argument. I like Ever Dream with both singers. I just get more emotion with Floor. I get a magical feel with Tarja. But i do like Tarja on this. Both are great. :) Tarja is best on Sleeping Sun, and Phantom.
Floor has not done Phantom with Nightwish. I do think she manage to go higher than Tarja on the version with Henk though. Would love a version with Marco

They are both really talented singers with uniqe voices! Floor is definitely more versatile, but Tarja holds a place in my heart because she was the singer of Nightwish when I found them.

My personal preferences of these 12 songs
Floor: Ever Dream, Ghost Love Score, Song of Myself, Storytime, Romanticide, Wish I Had an Angel
Tarja: Sleeping Sun, End of All Hope, Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan, The Siren, Wishmaster, Dark Chest of Wonders
Dark chest and sleeping sun are the two that floor just sounds wrong singing.
Do this with slaying the dreamer, the siren or wishmaster
I love Floor, but I think all of those goes for Tarja by clear margin.

The difference in the concert goers tells the whole story! Floor was brand new to NW, jumped right in, looks like she has been there forever. Don’t feel bad, I feel the same way. Floor did a TV show called Beste Zangers, 2019, you might want to review her versions of the likes of Shallow, & Phantom of the Opera, plus others. I like your reviews, I guess because you are as delighted with Foot as I am.

Tarja is very good but for me, Floor is the next level. Perhaps because her technic deserve emotions ? Her tone hit every time something in my soul.

I started off as a first time Floor fan after hearing her sing 'Ghost Love Score', BUT NOT ANYMORE, AFTER NOW HEARING TARJA SING!!!!! WOW!!!!!😮 Her voice is just so very unique, that it sounds VERY HAUNTING AND ENCHANTING!!!!😀👍👍👍
Hahaha hands down Floor Jansen everytime. Never been a fan of Annette's or Tarja's vocals ( Don't get me wrong they are both talented singers they just aint for me :D) She took this song and exploded it to maximum level. The other guys in the band doing there thing also! man such a banger!

Floor does it very well, and brings the power, but I love the original versions too (and I'm a fairly new fan myself). There's plenty of room to love both. I listen mostly to the studio albums, I basically only watch or listen to live when I watch these reactions, and I've seen so many reactions I never feel a need to listen to them on my own, lol. So I have a affinity for the original versions and the original voice on them. So many feel like you have to live only in the present and there's no room to enjoy anything that came before, or anything from their studio albums for that matter. Reactors follow the comments and rarely dig much deeper than Wacken and a few other more recent live shows. For me its the music, who's singing is secondary.
You want to see young, try anything from "From Wishes to Eternity".
Couldn't dissagree more..... I find the albums, over-produced, and bloated..... I pretty much only listen to live nightwish. Unles a new album comes out....... floor is just better..... although I have no idea how they will perform this new album live, as it's extremely difficult vocally.

All Nightwish singers have been very talented but at the same time also very different.
Imo Floor is the most suitable and best Front Lady for Nightwish. With her versatility and mindblowing talent she gives Tuomas free hands for composing almost anything what inspires him. Tuomas knows Floor delivers. And this is very important to this kind of Genius Master Composer.
And finally as a positive thing I have noticed that since Floor, Nightwish is more united, like a Family 🤘❣️

Floor can sing anything she wants, but there are a few songs that were written for Tarja and nobody, not even Floor can match her. Ever Dream, Slaying The Dreamer, Sleeping Sun are Tarja songs. Specially in this one Floors sounds pretty much gritty.

It doesn't matter who sang a song before, when Floor gets her vocal cords on it, she makes it hers.

I love Tarja, but what Floor does is just not fair. She is amazing.
Loved your watching both versions of the song. I agree there are songs I prefer Tarja, even a few I like Annette, but most, admittedly, Floor steals the show. Of course the band has also matured considerably too.
Ok, because we are picking our favorites once again, Tarja for me. Nothing better than good old Nightwish sound. Floor is incredible, and I can surely understand if someone prefers her, but I don't like the ending with her, because it starts to sound shouting. Otherwise it would be about tie, depending the mood I'm having.
And Floor doesn't make everything better. "The Siren" she did was actually pretty bad (only song where I think she didn't do a good job).
"Wishmaster" and "Slaying The Dreamer", no way, Tarja takes those by clear margin.
Glad to see you finally watched this. I remember recommending it to you on your first Nightwish reaction. I only came to Nightwish a year and a half ago, so I didn't know anything of the whole Tarja/Annette era, but when I've seen videos of Tarja, I just don't get the draw. Yes, she undoubtedly can sing, but she can only ever sound like Tarja - she has no other sound. Everything she sings has that operatic twinge on it and it just doesn't work on every song, every time. Floor can sound like Tarja when needed, but SOOO much more on top of that. I have to say, if Floor had never joined and Tarja was still the lead singer of Nightwish, I wouldn't be a fan.

Its because Floor gives out a more modern tone and style with dynamic versatility. Listening to Tarja for a whole concert can become mundane. Listening to Floor for a whole concert she just has a wow factor that i dont get at all with Tarja (except Phantom of the Opera) thats the only one i really can say Tarja was incredible.

I wouldn't be a fan neither. Metalized Vilja Lied, Shoemaker, O mio babbino caro, Finnish Holy Night, and operatic-esque tidbits sprinkled in NW songs... all this shown that Floor is more than capable of singing with well executed "operatic" techniques. But what is more important, she understands she isn't a professional opera singer in a opera house, but a metal singer singing contemporary music. So she uses her head voice and techniques she learned to bring her songs to life.
Seems to me Tarja imagined herself being an opera house diva instead of a singer in metal concert and went for only thing she knew - "operatic" techniques. Too bad she didn't paid much attention during the years she supposedly studied this. Otherwise she would know that good operatic voice needs to have an especially good enunciation. Control over resonance and vibrato is also expected. Being able to "get sense" how much of those techniques to use in whatever song and when not use them at all and being able to "turn them off" if necessary.
After listening to all three singers, only Floor Jansen comes out as a singer that not only really studied (unlike Anette), but also successfully applies all kinds of techniques in singing in proper way (unlike Tarja). Yes, fans of former singers may not like it. They are entitled to their opinions, but facts are not opinions.

I think its always dangerous to compare. The reality is most like the singer they discovered Nightwish under. I came to be a nightwish fan because of the wacken concert so Floor was the singer and it was sometime before I ever heard the other two sing. If I had heard Tarja first I think I would have had loyalty to the original. I prefer Floor because thats who I started with. There is no doubt Tarja was a great singer, and to be fair Annette wasn't as bad as some will tell you, but to me Floor is just that extra special.

Floor's voice flows so effortlessly. She's consistent. You always know she's going to deliver. No need to worry. That's not the case with all singers, especially live. And her stage charisma!

If you compared the two 15 years ago Tarja would come on top. But floor did a huge improvement over the years, she worked really hard.

I said this on another reaction video, but I think Floor does a better job at picking up on the emotion of the song and adding subtle nuances to her tone to really emphasize those emotions. Whether it be vocal fry or using open operatic/classical techniques. Don't get me wrong Tarja is a phenomenal singer, but with her it's just Tarja singing full on opera with a metal band behind it. Doesn't make her a bad vocalist because I still think she's the better operatic singer, but she is limited in her stylistic choices.
If Tarja still fronted Nightwish they'd be a much smaller band than they are now and I wouldn't be a fan.
