  • We purchased this 2003 986 Porsche Boxster S with only 45K miles for NG Supercars. One of you can own it for $19,500! It really is a blast to drive especially on a nice twisty road. The handling is fantastic and rowing through the gears with the 6 speed manual gearbox just makes it a blast to drive.

I have a 2000 Boxster S. It has a tune and an exhaust mod and an intake mod. I've also done the suspension. I've never driven another one but my car is respectably pretty quick. I would never consider it to be slow. Maybe compared to a McLaren or a Ferrari. To get these cars to move you have to get up above 4K. Not as quick as my 911 but not that far off. But the suspension on the car is magnificent. I take it to the track and it did not disappoint. Absolutely the best bang for the buck.

The Boxster S will feel quick if you're just starting out on your sports car voyage (as will be natural if starting with something cheaper). With a few exhaust mods, it can definitely feel nimble enough. Plus top down sensation tends to heighten feeling of speed. Great junior sports cars. Be wary of IMS issues of course! Ceramic IMS upgrades definitely worth it for peace of mind!

the 981 boxster was the car that started it all for me in 2015, so fun, sounds so good, so reliable and easy to diy. Plus great looks and lightweight and a lot cheaper than 911s. Since then over the years I got into 3 911s - 997.2 and 991.1 991.2 and got really disappointed, doesnt sound as good, heavy, not as tossable, numb and just not as fun. Sold them all within 6 months of ownership. To me on the porsche, it's either the gt3 gt3rs (race car like) or the midengines (fun), the regular 911s arent particularly good in anything. I love my pair of 991.2 gt3 and 718 spyder (even tho the new 718 4.0 need some exhaust work, it sounds horrible stock)

Maybe do the upgraded IMS swap? I think the part is sub $1,000 and you're already in there (at least to start) for the oil change. And, it could help with the sale. As an aside, my first ever Porsche was an '05 Boxster (in the same seal grey) and my current Porsche is a 718 Spyder. With those bookends, I'll say the 986 and 987 Boxsters are fantastic buys. You get so much of the Porsche experience at fractions of the cost.

I get it against a true supercar, of course not that type of power. But its by no means a slow car in a straight line if your rowing through the gears and tacking the redline with each shift. My experience with a newer model, I would state it as linear speed & powerband. And you could also make an argument in its day and era (again and what was out then) it was a very quick car and my guess would beat your average 2003 honda.

Both great cars. This is more nimble, C5 more power. C5 also pretty easy to mod. I have a C5Z. Would love to add a Porsche next.

@@pgammad83 Yea, I see the draw to each, just for the money I think I’d take the c5. The markets went crazy though, I sold my atomic orange c6 grand sport a few years back for what c5z’s are selling for now. I’d love to drive a Porsche, I have really started to like them over these past few years.
