Well said re people need to hear this stuff so as to have a more generous understanding and not seek to control others or create dogma by literal readings which don't understand the culture of the time or the genre of the writing. If you can make a video 'short' with just that bit from Robyn , so valuable. Plus the application to Romans 1. We have to realise that a lot from the time of Jesus is going to be mystery and guesswork. Noone should be saying 'the bible says' and dictating what you believe or do...

The messianic message was Hellenized after the unsuccessful revolts in the Jewish wars. Ptolomey employed Jews in the grain trade, centered in Alexandria-Philo’s logos adapted the Torah prophecies, which fit nicely into Roman fascination with fulfillment of god/God’s will.

When and where anything is written it will be in that style unless a conscious effort is made to write in a different style and reflect a different time period. Even then, it would be very difficult for current influences not to creep in! If i tried to write in the style of Shakespeare and reflect the 1600s some 21st century words and styling would creep in somehow! It would take quite a scholar to perfectly imitate another culture and era! Hollywood movies are a perfect example, clothing styles are not always historically accurate and speech patterns and language use are often incorrect for the era they are trying to imitate!

Dr. Walsh must be aware of Joseph Atwill's work -- the book "CAESAR'S MESSIAH" -- with the evidence he puts forth illustrating the copious parallels between the career of Jesus (i.e. his 'Ministry' of 3 & 1/2 years) and the military campaign of Titus Flavius (also of 3 & 1/2 years) as described in Josephus' WAR OF THE JEWS. The New Testament was written by propagandists on behalf of the Flavian emperors, so it's obvious that their familiarity with Greco-Roman literature would be echoed in the NT literature.
The entire project was an attempt to tame the virulently violent Messianic Zealot movement -- the group that wrote the Dead Sea Scrolls (especially the War Scroll) -- by presenting an absurdity: a 'messiah' ['Christ'] who was on the side of Rome and who repeatedly accused the Jews of being children of the Devil, less 'faithful' tan the Roman soldiers occupying Judaea, etc. Once the Jesus/Titus parallels are pointed out, the conclusion is obvious: it was all by design. Roman authors were mimicking the language of Hebrew scripture, giving it a twist which served a Roman agenda.
A ready comparison of their recent destruction of the 2nd Temple with the sorry tale of Nebuchadnezzar's destruction of the 1st Temple made for an easy comparison whereby the god of the Jews -- who had supposedly used the Babylonians to punish sinning Jews (just as He had used the cruel Assyrians to punish the northern kingdom of Israel) -- had just recently used the Romans to punish latter-day Jews, sinning Jews who were being punished for having rebelled against the forces which their god YHWH had ordained to rule over them.
Even today you have pious Jews who accept the notion that the destruction of the 2nd Temple (and the subsequent Diaspora) had been due to the 'fact' that the Jews of the time MUST have been sinners worthy of such a horrendous calamity. Never mind the fact that the Jews who wrote the DSS were fervently pious and faithful to the terms of the Covenant at Sinai, which to them meant that God was legally obligated to reciprocate by granting them victory over the oppressors, the pagan Romans. They were Zealots -- they had a Zeal for the Law -- and their god had promised them that IF they would return to His ways, then He would return the favor by granting them military victory over their enemies.
God may have used the Babylonians to punish sinning Jews back in the day, but eventually He allowed for Babylon to fall, so that the Persians could ascend to power, with Cyrus being declared a 'Messiah' by the Jews due to his allowing them to return to Judah from Babylon. Therefore, those Zealots in the 1st century had every reason to believe that their return to Righteousness would similarly be followed by the overthrow of Rome . . . with a new Davidic Messiah to begin a reign that would transform not only Judah/Judaea, but the entire world.
Alas, they got their asses handed to them by the mightier Roman military. In the aftermath, Roman propagandists turned Judaic literature on its head, concocting a Flavian spoof of Messianism: the Christian religion. All of the New Testament 'scriptures' were written after the end of the War of 66-to-73 CE. Jesus was invented and pre-dated 40 years beforehand, and the career of Saul/Paul was likewise invented in order to fill in the ~40-year gap between the supposed Ascension of Jesus and the outbreak of the War. It's all fiction. It's a secret spoof of the doomed Messianic Movement which led to the War in the first place.

Since people are now waking up to the fact that the gospels were written in Greek in a Greco/Roman culture, may l mention a book by Henry Davis called "Creating Christianity" who claims that the Joseph Atwill book is wrong and the real authors of the Gospels were the highly influential Senatorial Calpurnius Pisos family. The Gospels were written as satirical plays, Jesus was just a character in the plays, by the way Flavius Josephus the Historian was a pseudonym of Arius Pisos. l will leave it there but there is a lot of evidence in the book to back up these claims.

The Old Testament was written in Hebrew because God was talking to the Hebrews. The New Testament, (which opened eternal life to the Gentiles,) was written in Greek, because Alexander the Great, who was Macedonian but loved the Greek culture and language, had spread that language throughout the world, where it was established as the international language of commerce in Jesus' day. When, due to England's massive Navy, the English language emerged as the language of international commerce, the original English KJV appeared as the Word of the Living God. And it stands so to this day, as the number one best-selling book of all time worldwide. Psalm 12 declares that God's words are pure words, purified seven times like silver in a furnace of earth. God promises to keep His original versions perfect to all generations. No prophecy is of any private interpretation. If you lack faith, you may have the wrong version, for faith cometh by hearing [the voice of God] and hearing cometh by the word of God. Compare Proverbs 18:1 in KJV and all others; KJV encourages you to get alone with God and fast and pray per-versions hate that. Beware!

Of COURSE the NT is Greek ("Greco-Roman") literature. So are Plato's Dialogs. So are Aristotle's treatises. What ELSE would the NT be? Writing is not a movie script. Pictures (idols) are not worth 1,000 words. Study Christian Scripture in Greek. Take your time.

Plato and Aristotle's writings are just Greek, not Roman. Greco-Roman refers to the period when the Roman empire expanded and conquered territories of the former Greek empire (see Alexander the Great), becoming the new ruling power in those territories. The Romans adopted Greek mythology, literature, culture, etc., as a result. The peak of the Roman empire and Greco-Roman period was roughly between 200 BC - 200 AD. Hope that makes sense.
