      Actually, a video on how to properly balance air pressure within the case would be awesome. How to setup the fans, fan speeds, and especially how to know if the goal is achieved.
      Because even though i thought quite a bit about how many and which type of fans i have in my PC, i don't know for sure wether i reached my "just slightly positive" pressure or totally overdid it.

      Best GPU for low end CPU's like i3's or an FX 6300 ?. I bought an R9 270 back in 2013 on your recommendation (MSI Gaming X 2GB). Its starting to show its age, Id like to upgrade (mainly for VRAM) but most people say anything above a 1050TI or R9 380X isn't worth it due to bottlenecks.

    NO WAY! at 6:04 when they got out that fan! On the first PC that I built I used a Hyper 212 EVO, but the fan failed after a couple months. I took the side panel off and used a 20" box fan to do the exact same thing until I got a new fan for the heatsink. That's so weird I always wondered if anybody else did that.
    Edit: You should totally do a video on that, it would be really funny!

      When I built my AMD QuadFather system the only heat sinks I could find at the time were for a 1U server, and didn't work very well. So I did exactly that with a large box fan, to find the max overclocks while I was waiting for better heatsinks in the mail.

    Jayz you forgot about replacing thermal paste. I lowered 10ºC in my gpu just changing TIM for MX-4. And there are better TIMs for gpus like Thermal Grizzly Hydronaut. MX-4 isn't that great for gpus.
    Undervolt is another GREAT option for cards like RX 470-570-480-580.
    With -30mv less my 470 G1 is around 62º max at 35% fan speed, and i'm running stock clocks. Dead silent card, and is summer here.

    Think about the position of your PC: Avoid confined spaces (under desk, for example), avoid corners of rooms, leave plenty of space between PC and walls, try to position where cool(er) air can enter (usually lower in room) and hot air can escape. If your PC does not have a space under it, consider propping it up on something to allow air to circulate under it. Also, if you have dust filters, clean them (and remove dust from components...compressed air is best, but watch the pressure).

    With the box fan you can take like a home air filter that is roughly same size of the fan to eliminate dust and things being blown into the case. Not ideal setup though since it reduces how much the fan can actually push into the case. Be interesting to see differences between the two.

    • @slowdog294
      @slowdog294 7 лет назад +1

      Having built many workstations, optimal fan placement depends on a case that allows this. In an ideal world, cool air is taken in from the bottom and vented out the top since convection assisted cooling works via hot air rising. In the real world, the best alternative would be front intake with rear and top exhaust.
      The best cases allow the PSU to take in air through the side and vent it out the back, keeping supply heat out of the case. These have front and/or top rad or fan positions. The top notch units do not take away the ODD or get in the space where a mobo would run up against the rad, even with push/pull fan pairs installed.
      A realistic and affordable solution for a medium sized box would be two 140mm intakes on the front, two 120mm exhaust fans on the rear, with the GPU reference blower exhausting along with the PSU. This way, PSU and GPU heat do not collect inside the case, allowing the chassis fans to spin slow and quiet while moving lots of air.

    I've been watching old PC restorations it seems like old cases put fans in perfect spots GPU CPU and power supply fan holes I'd really like to see more of that. Instead of standard front back top and bottom

    I'd definitely try undervolting your CPU/GPU if you're able to, I've been able to undervolt my 10850K by -0.08V and keep the exact same base & turbo frequencies and it's running almost 10oC cooler, going from 220 watts at load to 160 watts!

    I would love to see a video using a box fan setup. Living in Las Vegas our summer temps are awful. It is not even summer yet and we have been over 105 for the last 3 days. Today we hit 112.

    Thats not how it works.
    Air flow at a high speed equals low air pressure and air flow at low speed equals high pressure.
    Otherwise you are right, high speed air flow cools the system faster than low speed since a higher volume of air gets exposed to the warm system and the heat conductivity of air is so low anyway that longer exposure time doesnt really make any difference anyway.
    tldr.
    Lower speed does not equal lower pressure.

    Ohio: Today it is 90 F with 80% humidity. Within a week its supposed to be 60 F high. The weather means nothing here.

    • @sporksnforks514
      @sporksnforks514 7 лет назад +1

      It can be the same in PA. This past winter, we went from having several inches of snow to 65° within a couple days, and we can get temperatures ranging from below zero in winter to 105+° in summer. And don't get me started on how hot it gets with the humidity in summer . . .

    • @slayerwasco
      @slayerwasco 7 лет назад

      Ohio can relate. I personally hate how volatile it is. I wouldnt mind if it was hot, but took a few weeks to ramp up. Welp. Things wont be changing anytime soon.

      Luckily for me, I get acclimated to temps after a while. It's not uncommon for me to wear shorts and T-shirt when it's been 40° out for a while, but even here I get strange looks for dressing like that. I honestly think people around here don't let themselves naturally acclimate to whatever temperature it is like I do. Saves on cooling in summer and heating in winter, that's for sure.

      Same in KY. with a bit more humidity. Originally from WI ppl think I am used to the cold, but I just layer up and watch them freeze in 3 while I have on 9. lol Gotta dress for the weather.

      This only increases static pressure through the radiator, but does not truly increase much air flow

    • @trukr817
      @trukr817 7 лет назад

      @ Raul Saavedra, From personal experience, I disagree. I had an H55 with adapter on my GPU. Was mounded in the bottom of the case in push out the bottom. I put a second fan on for push-pull and noted thee things, the air coming from under the case was not as hot, there was a lot more air flow and my GPU temp went down about 10c. I could FEEL the difference in air flow, much more air flow from under the case, and no it was not real close or on carped, on desk and tall legs (Fractal Arc XL)

      Check the following graphs:
      www.greenheck.com/images/articles/fansispargraph.gif
      www.greenheck.com/images/articles/fansinseriesgraph.gif
      More:
      image.slidesharecdn.com/fanchoice-ap-v3-150129121009-conversion-gate02/95/fan-choice-apv3-8-638.jpg?cb=1447950919
      qph.ec.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-24a4830626a3129de987ec5c204f441e
      Effectively the airflow can increase a little bit with fans in series, specially if there was lots of flow resistance to begin with. But in general:
      Fans in series (stacked) -> more static pressure, but hardly any more airflow
      Fans in parallel (side by side) -> more air flow, but hardly any more static pressure

    • @trukr817
      @trukr817 7 лет назад

      @Raul Saavedra, Your graphs have nothing to do with what I am talking about. I am talking about one fan pushing air in to the radiator and another fan on the other side of the radiator pulling air from the radiator. This does not raise static pressure, it reduces it and increases air flow. I don't need some irrelevant graphs that are not about getting air though a radiator, I have the experience of doing it. As I said, I could FEEL the increase in air flow and the drop in air temperature. I guess you can't plainly see in the image I linked, but one fan is under the radiator the other is plainly on the top of it.

    Hi Jay - what about reversing the flow of air? in at the back and out at the front? My PC id built into a bit of desk furniture with not a lot of airspace at the back. I always felt that having loads of hot air accumulating in a closed of area at theback of the pc was worse, so I have tried to reverse the airflow with hot air exiting out of the front. Be good to see your thoughts on it ...

    Getto cooling. Get a tumble dryer condenser box super cheap fill it with ice. Tape the hose over a 120MM fan. Instant cooler air being drawn into the PC. But im in the UK and the hottest it gets in summer is about 31.c if we are lucky lol
