  • In this video, I clean up all the mold and dirt from the car sitting for 20 years and pull it into the shop. From there I show you the condition of the underside, and also get started on the process of making the engine run!

Being an old man now ,, I have worked on LOTS of these cars ,, that said ,, use the lift arms on the sub frame as the rockers are weak in these cars , the rear spring perch is the place for the lift at the back so you can work on brake and fuel lines,,, YUP ,, I realise you have been working on it for months by now how you lifted it , but the body can TWEAK if you keep lifting off the rockers ,,,, When it was new you could lift there but now it is a weak area of the car in the front half,,, BEST REGARDS John

Looks like the undercarriage was oil sprayed for several years before it was stored in the barn. Probably what saved it from rotting out much worse than it is. It looks pretty decent underneath, all things considered.

I had a 1972 camaro sc. It had a 350 small block and a 2 barrel carb. I put in a Edelbrock mid intake and a 450cfm Holly carb along with Accel wires and distributer. Man did that wake that car up! I got busted doing 158mph in a 55mph by the damn airplane there on I-80 in Nevada outside of Reno. That Highway patrol man that pulled me over was so pissed you would've thought I stole a kiss from his daughter. Anyway I wish I still had her, a Lot of great times in that car.

_Over 9.5 million+ views Ben, and your love for old Chevys and anything GM speaks volumes of RUclips content. Considering the 'F' body lasted 12 model years was a miracle. I mean in '72, with the UAW strike, plus the requirement for improved frontal crash standards, GM almost killed the car. Thankfully the model got better and better, with the exception of reduced horsepower offerings due to new emission standards on the horizon. Thank you for potentially saving another classic bow-tie. Really looking forward to more great videos here Ben._

Back in 76 the cutest gal in high school had a yellow 72 just like this! She was blond & blue eyed & way cuter than Marcia Brady! When she pulled into the parking lot every head in the place spun around! Mostly because of her but some for the car as well! Most of us were driving older cars, early Novas, GTO's, Chevelles or whatever we could afford to drive! Cool to see you resurrecting this one!

Hey bro quick way to tell a 10 bolt from a 12 without getting under the car.....just get down on ur knee and look at from outside the car. Look on the very bottom flat of the inspection cover. If it's only got 1 along the very very bottom it's a 10bolt. If it has 2 on the VERY bottom of the cover it's a 12
...nutn to it. It'll get so easy eventually you'll never have to count em all again

One quick way I check for 10 or 12 bolt rear, is, if the bottom most bolt is in the center, it's a 10 bolt...
If there are 2 "bottom most" bolts, next to each other, it's a 12 bolt... hope that makes sense.... early here still! LoL
Cool car btw, thanks for sharing!

Ben, the car is in great shape for being a 72 and sitting in mud for decades. A common small block problem is for rocker arms to pop out of place. Some people replace them when they pop out of place, some people just put the original on back on correctly. Number one plug looked oil fouled. Maybe a stuck oil control ring, or bad valve seals. I have found from past experience it's more likely to be a stuck oil ring... often caused by short trips, and/or lack of oil changes... but that engine looks clean, so I bet it was short trips. Sometimes they free up, by running them down the highway... NOT short trips, and keeping the oil changed. It takes time that way, sometimes taking thousands of miles, and having to clean the carbon off the plug every time it fouls. The other option is to pull the piston, and re-ring it. It's probably not worth worrying about, just pull the plug and clean it when it fouls... if it's east to pull. I would check the wiring to see why no idiot lights were on and lack of signals... maybe chewed up??? Bet it runs good! Looking forward to the next video.

First time watching your channel, Gonna follow this set of videos. On April 6, 2019, I just purchased a 1974 Camaro from Tyler, TX for $2000.00 for my 16yr old soon to be 17yr old son. The gentleman bought it in 74 and has driven it since then. We got the original brown title. It has 151,XXX miles on the original L48 350sb 4bbl and original transmission. It runs and drives, but has some issues with brakes. Glass is all good, surface rust on the hood and roof where vinyl top used to be, and some in the ps front fender and rear quarter. It'll be a great car once we get all the issues fixed. Will be watching the progress. A suggestion for ya if ya don't mind, show more of the actual work you do to your vehicles, and less music. Enjoyed watching your channel.

Someone has been into this car already. The HEI distributor was not an option back in '72 so that is a good thing someone already did it for you. One thing place the lift arms under the frame and not on the unibody, it rusted and weaker and was never strong to begin with.

A column shifter on a Camaro is blasphemy, but again this one is unique and deserves the attention you're giving it! BTW - I gave up a 69 Camaro for a 74 Camaro with an 1970 LT1 which I rebuilt. I was happier with the 74 because it was newer, but looking back should've kept the 69!! This car is a gem! AC too! Up here, that was a luxury no one had unless they were rich. Keep on keeping on! I would put Fluid Film on all the rusted areas and the undercarriage. The rust would either flake off or you'll find some solid areas. It's also nice you went into detail and checked everything out before trying to start it up. I wonder if dumping a little fresh oil in the engine reservoir would clean up any older oil. You can always just change the oil again earlier than you normally would to get rid of any old oil as well.

    i enjoy your videos.
when i drag home an oldy, i always take an air hose and give the engine bay a good blowdown before opening anything up. seen too many videos of somebody firing up an old engine without the air filter and standing back and watching the engine suck in leaves, twigs, dirt etc...
