ARTFUL, NATURAL, NO-nonsense, NO bells-and-whistles movie from BALU MAHENDRA and Maestro ILAYARAJA! Building a house was (it still does for many) a pipe dream for the average middle-class people before the 1990s. Ilayaraja proves WHY he is the BEST in MUSIC. He and his music do NOT need the crutches of songs, lyrics / lyricists and voices / singers. His Background Score was fitted here by BM from IR's How to Name it album (1986). Yet, his music has the POWER to preserve the movie's soul intact, while moving the audience to tears thus bridging the GAP between the director's realm and the audience's sensibility. Excellent performance from the cast (ARCHANA received her well-deserved National Award). The movie also won the National award for "Best Tamil Film" category for that year. BM was so able and confident that he left a loose end thereby feeding the audience's imagination, unlike the vast majority of run-of-the-mill masala entertainers with no content and a highly-predictable no-brainer end.
