Thank you for your helpful videos. Just a question out of curiosity. You mentioned the swords in the parade and I have heard from other videos that people would have swords in the pictures. Did those preparing to be chaplains also wear them or would that violate their non-combatant status?
Hey, Sarah. We had our inspection wk 3/day 3. That being said, the schedule of things are always subject to change based on interdependencies with other classes, uniform shop, dental, medical, etc. Specific to the inspection, I cover some of it at the 5:30 mark in my week 3 video but here are some things to focus on. They will 100% check your collar device spacing. One trick is to place masking tape on your collar and use a pen to get perfect spacing, then push your device through to make the holes and remove the tape. 2) they will 100% check the spacing of your ribbon and name tag. 3) they will look inside and outside of your cover for proper stenciling and strings. 4) STRINGS STRINGS STRINGS. If there is a string they can pull out they call it “gear adrift”. 5) Knowledge. Can’t help you much there. Study the sheet and hope they ask you the things you know. Warrant ranks and device descriptions are a bear. I chocked them up as a loss. Luckily I was not asked! You might practice with your roommate at attention getting asked questions while they point out issues on your uniform. It is very hard to focus on reciting the sailors creed (or whatever you are answering) when the inspector points out a hit to the recorder. You have to maintain your bearing and take the blow with poise. As for the failures (no more than 5 hits), they will be reinspected at the same time those who did not have khaki uniforms get inspected. Hope this helps. Cheers!
Yes. We wore khakis in town. You will only wear civilian clothes when you report and when you leave/graduate. I brought a couple of sleep shirts to wear but that’s the only time I wore something other than a uniform.
Everyone's path is a bit different. I was right at a year after commissioning to go to ODS. Took a couple of months to swear in after acceptance. Accepted Feb. Sworn in May. A lot is out of your control. Just make sure if the ball is in your court to complete documents, turn then around quick.

It’s only a handful of folks who train to carry the swords. You do not have to volunteer. As to a violation for Champlains, I’m not sure.
