Falls are worth to visit in winter when is really cold and part of it is frozen. We live an hour away and come at least three times a year. We skip the tacky part and just watch the water to go over the edge. It’s magical.

The "Old Niagara" you visited is actually a different town called Niagara-on-the-lake.

You should see the falls at night, multi-light colour show! Clifton Hill is very tacky but some things can be fun for the right people haha Too bad you weren't able to do "Maid of the Mist", its incredible being so close to the falls and being in awe of it all :)

I personally like the US side better just because there's more nature and pathways to walk around. Fun fact, most Americans from Buffalo & Niagara Falls areas go to Canada/Clifton Hill for their 19th birthday since the legal drinking age in Canada is 19 and it's 21 in the US.

Thank you for the video. I live in Niagara Falls and it's nice to see the reaction of someone seeing the falls for the first time. I've seen it all a million times and have become numb to the beauty of it all. And Clifton Hill is touristy but still lots of fun.

Shaine Roy I just said this lol. I live here in the falls too. Clifton hill is just annoying now.

I've been to both sides, and agree the Canadian side is best! Views are stunning. Maid of the mist is well worth it! I was disappointed at how commercial the Canadian side was though.

The New York side has to be left as natural as possible because the family who donated the land to NY left this stipulation. On the NY side you can walk very close to the rapids, see 3 sisters island etc. Niagara on the Lake is a must visit. The Canadian side is very commercialized.

That's actually Niagara Falls New York. I live 30 mins from NF in Canada and I don't like the Clifton Hill gimmacky area myself but the parkway green belt down by the falls is beautiful. On the American side there is one park by the American falls for viewing and the rest of it is mainly industrial. The Canadian side gets many more tourists.
Your last stop was Niagara-on-the-Lake. I love it there so much. Main street is usually very busy. My favourite thing to do is to walk around the old town neighborhoods and look at all the heritage and mulitmillion dollar homes.

I agree with one of the comments that the landscape on the USA side is beautiful... the view of the falls is better on the Canadian side, but if you can not fall into Clifton hill and actually view the gardens near the falls, and the falls its amazing... Clifton hill is a huge tourist trap... the Niagara glen is definitely worth seeing you can hike near the rapids, journey behind the falls is good to do once... you get very close to the falls on the Canadian side... maid of the mist is worth the money also.. BUT yeah anyone travelling to Niagara PLEASE don't get stuck at Clifton hill.. really venture off to see the "falls related" things.. Niagara on the lake is absolutely beautiful. I'm glad you all had a great time.

i've been to the buffalo side & agree the platform view isn't that good but I went on the boat ride so got a pretty good view. Would have preferred to go to Canada side but couldn't leave/re-enter US on my visa. The building of the hotels/casino is such a shame because the build-up of lights does take away from the falls- you can no longer see night rainbows or moonbows at the full moon because of it! If you are ever in southern africa definitely check out Victoria Falls, I liked it much more than Niagra especially because it has essentially all been left to nature and there are lots of different trails to view the falls from rather than 'viewing platforms' etc love your vlogs, hope you are enjoying europe (come to ireland/n.ireland!) x

I've been to both sides, Canadian side is better for views. US side isn't that bad tbh,, it just shows a different angle but less thrilling for pictures. There's a giant national park on the US side so if you want less gimmick, you could've paid like 50 cents to cross the border (you need your passport though). I've done that before and I had one foot in Canada and one foot in the US!

I'm late to the game on this vid... the American side is also a city called Niagara Falls (United States). Buffalo is about 20 minutes south. There are a lot of Nature walks and stuff on the American side. You have to go at night though... they light up the falls and the Hornblower cruises ( Canadian side only) offer night cruises... absolutely beautiful

It's fun to see Niagara Falls from someone else's perspective. I live here in the falls and you get so used to seeing it everyday it kind of loses its power. Not the actual falls really, they are always impressive buy all the other shenanigans get pretty old quick lol.

Flying The Nest I agree. The only good part about the tourism craze here is the jobs they have created. But it's only seasonal and most of us have no work all winter. I'm happy you enjoyed our city. I hope you guys have the chance to come visit us again sometime. 😊😊😊

I went to the American side and due to really bad weather we never made it to the Canadian side which was annoying! The view from the platform isn't too bad but it looks alot better on the Canadian side.
I think by the looks of it the Canadian side is so much more gimmicky than the American side. Theres few hotels and tourist shops but nothing like the Canadian side.

Jodie Seymour the American side went the way of industrial jobs and Canadian side focused on tourism.

You should try your new filters on this vlog. Would love to see the difference it makes to the colour of the water.
The maid of the mist is amazing but I don’t think I would’ve enjoyed it if I got all wet with a cold.

unfortunately due to over expansion and building is at all hotels and casinos on that end of the falls the wind directions have been altered and because they been altered the mist is getting worse and worse 10 years ago there was no mist but now sometime in the future you're going to see nothing but missed and steam and the Falls won't be able to be seen at all

Canadian side is full of tourist traps but there is a local community there to support that tourist industry meaning 5here are good local places to service them if you know where to look. I like hitting the Continental Pancake House for breakfast when we leave. It's your typical greasy spoon joint, not very big, but very easy on the wallet.

You should visit Foz do Iguaçu Water Falls in Brazil. The volume of the water is much greater than they Niagara Waterfalls.

I’ve been to both sides a couple of times and of course the Canada side has a better view but it’s still fun to go to both sides. The US side is pretty cool. Went on maid of the mists too and that is fun!

I agree the falls are spectacular, but they also make me a little sad, because half the water volume goes to electric power and not over the falls. I remember the horseshoe at full volume way way back in 1952 and it was absolutely frightening! Will have to visit the American side, because it's nice, too. Glad you enjoyed it. Fun to stand at the edge and imagine that spot a couple of hundred years ago. Did you know those who study erosion say, in the 17th century, the horseshoe wasn't even there yet? The river made the bend and then fell over a nearly-straight-line brink. The whole thing would disappear in a few more centuries if the power plants hadn't cut the erosion. What will all those poor tourist traps do then?

Maid of the mist boat is fun, wet an very loud. The kids love Clifton Hill and all the fun stuff. Niagra Falls never gets old...I have been about 20 times and still find it fabulous! Canadian side is better!

thank goodness someone else said it I live on the US Niagara Falls Ny not Buffalo ny. people say its boring compared to Canada since it is more natural on the US side. Its a huge state park on the US side and you can get closer to the Canadian falls at prospect point. also the mist is sad since they. over built the falls. on that end and disturbed

  • @harveythepooka

Niagara is definitely a tourist trap on the Canadian side, and even if the views aren't as good it's got a better atmosphere on the US side. But I have to lol, you guys acted like the US side and the Canadian side miles away from each other, instead 3 minutes away! I went years ago, before 9/11 and you could cross over with just a drivers license, but I am sure they're more strict now, just like you used to be able to get into Mexico that way too.
I think anyone who was there for more than 3 hours and drove themselves would go to both sides. Some of the touristy things like the maid of the mist etc are fun, but just seeing the falls is enough.
