Hi! I cannot for the life of mine assemble this thing (the 2 roller mill). Both side panels do not mesh with the drilled screw holes. You can force it, but then the bottom bent metal lips collide with the mill wheels and the whole mill makes a brutal screeching sound. So my question is - should I bend the lips some more to avoid contact with the grinding wheels?
BRAAAAAAAJJJJJJJ !!!! I literally just got this blue mill!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂 and as I'm mashing in my first crush this comes on!!!! The universe always sends you to me on a brew day! Blessings!
I haven't done an all grain brew yet, but I'm binge watching to learn. I'm a winemaker and distiller, so I have a lot of the knowledge. I'm planning to do brew in a bag. Anyone know if I can run the grain through a Vitamix and ferment it? I don't have a mill, and shit is expensive.
yes, for manufacturing and "just before" assembly. Keeps it pretty for the end user. being a flatpack, the end user assembles and thus get your de-peel on!
I have that same Ferroday mill and can confirm it works great for 5 gal batches and can confirm that blue stuff was a pain in the ass to get off every bit of metal
I clean off the residue with 93% isopropyl or pure acetone. It has low latent heat of vaporization and leaves nothing behind, doesn't tend to tarnish the metal either.
@@HOMEBREW4LIFE No prob, Braj. I work in the aerospace metals industry and this is how we buy sheared stainless sheet stock. However, the film should come off easily, in 1 pull. Cheers!
I just removed that film from my 2 roller cereal killer. Mine came assembled, but a utility knife was all I needed. My CK looks EXACTLY like the ferroday! Keep these coming, good times!
I bought a two roller mill 2-3 years ago and it worked pretty well. Got a 3 roller mill as a present 3 days ago and wanted to look up if there is even a difference. Sounds like I might have an easier time milling the grain now?
Good afternoon Mr. Thanks for your valuable information. I was wondering if this grain mill could be use to make peanut butter. Do you think it would work? Thanks for the attention.
Yo CH! I bought the same mill, but I’m having problems using it with my power drill. Did you make any adjustments? I tried using some Teflon tape for better grip and it still doesn’t want to be nice to me
The most attractive thing about your channel is you keep it light. Real world, cheap, no bullshit. We're homebrewers. We're brewing beer! It ain't no rocket science. I'll never forget the idiot in my brew club that has a $5,000 system, who's beer tastes like shit. Now if you really want to score points, let's see some Doom or Duke Nukem!
What Up BRAJ's. Just Got the 2 roller inn your vid a couple weeks ago. Wet condition that grain bros! I"m hairy and I can prove it! The 2 roller is bomb.
Ok, you made me laugh when you munched a handful of it. That's one thing i like about your channel. I can tell you were a comedian. That shit gives you one hell of an edge. You know how to communicate and you can have fun doing it.
Really loving your videos. New brewer here and loving your down to earth no nonsense approach and my kind of sense of humor. Also in case you were joking - the blue film was to protect the metal from getting scratched. Wouldn't want your pretty new device for destroying organic material with compressive violence to look ratty out of the box! ;)
Had a 2 roller for a couple years - it's totally a game changer - saves U money on grain and makes your grain go further - last longer. Question - is the crush on a 3 roller more -UNIFORM- or more FINE? what's the diff? Totally agree with your take on everything else. CHEERS BRAJ!
Good looking out, already watched your previous vid and bought the malt muncher and it's been awesome. Need a stronger drill than my lil ryobi though it gets hot quick!
If you’re able to buy grain in bulk and you brew pretty often, you’ll make that money spent on the grain mill BACK in savings from the discounted price you get on bulk grains. Good one Braj
agree! My LHBS sells 2-row for $2.50/lb (milled or unmilled), but they will sell me a 55lb bag of rahr 2-row for $44 ($0.80/lb). Cost of milled 2-row per pound = $2.50 Cost of unmilled 2-row per pound = $0.80, Difference in cost per pound = $2.50 - $0.80 = $1.70 so $1.70/pound × x pounds = $160 so I would need to mill 94.12 pounds of 2-row to break even assuming I spend $160 on a nice grain mill. ~57lbs with a $97 FERRODAY mill (~1 bag of 2-row!!). To put it another way you would save $93.50 buying your first 55lb bag of 2row. Today I spent about $20 on grains for a cream ale. It would of cost $9.80 if I had milled my own bulk 2-row and bought the adjuncts from LHBS.
I have the "crop duster" from adventures in homebrewing. It's a 2 roller for 80 dollars, and it gets the job done. I brew about once a every couple months and I will never need anything more than that. If you brew a lot or do more than 5 gallon batches I would suggest stepping up to the 3 roller, though. I swear all these mills are made in the same factory in china. They all look the same!
@@HOMEBREW4LIFE Just bought my first malt mill, your advice is great for a beginner like me. I've got all sorts of malts and regular grains, my buddy picked a shitload of hops, I cannot wait to get started!!
The 3 roller malt mill has no advantage over the 2 roller mill, on the contrary. The 3 rollers are difficult to adjust and the result is usually worse than with 2 rollers. Keep it simple ... and good.

Sheet metal is often sold with a protective film and that's normally removed on items for sale, unless they are built by Smurfs, who love blue things.

I have an idea to improve grain mills. Should do a better job, and work faster. What company would you suggest deserves to receive such design?
Can you use these mind of roller mills to make flour? Or only course for brewing?
The blue film comes on the metal. Keeps scratches from happening and keeps it from oxidizing.
