Some advice to learners of the Afrikaans language: Afrikaans is very close to fonetics. If you know fonetic very well, you will find Afrikaans easy. A = Like in answer. B = Like in blue. C = There is no word in Afrikaans with the letter "C", but the English "C" is taken over, like in Chris. D = Like in dark. E = Like in example (never like in acknowledge!!!). F and V = Like in friend. G = G in Afrikaans is very difficult for English speakers, as it is a "gutteral" sound. To exersise it, quickly say: "Grote Griet Gerhard Grobler". H = Like in horse. I = Like in April. J = Like in Yummy. K = Like in Kim. L = Like in lesson. M = Like in master. N = Like in Nic. O = Like in author. P = Like in Patrick. Q = There is no word in Afrikaans with the letter Q, but we borrowed it from English like in Quinton. R = Like in right. S = Like in super. T = Like in total. U = Like in turn. V and F = Like in Father. W = Like in vast. X = There is no word in Afrikaans with an "x". Y = Like in April. Z = There is no word in Afrikaans with a "z". But we pronounce a "z" like the Dutch pronounce it (like in New Zealand, Zeeland, Zuider Zee, etc.). Something interesting about the Afrikaans alphabeth is the dubbel vowels. Like aa, ee, ii, oo, uu. Also: ae, ai, ao, au. Or: ea, ia, oa, ua, ie, ei, oi, io, ui, iu.
Remember, the word "ek" is not pronounced "ack". The correct pronunsiation is "ek", like in EXTREME. Many Afrikaaners nowadays pronounce it like in "acknowledge". That is wrong. Only "verloopte Afrikaaners" pronounce it like that.
actually it depends where abouts you are. 'Ek' is pronounced "ack" in most regions, similarly how 'jou' is pronounced "yo" and 'jy' is pronounced "yay". Hard sounding pronunciations such as "j-o" and "j-ay" and "e-ck" are more common in the cape regions
As a Afrikaans native, this is bad training. You can mix languages and pretend it is afrikaans. The people sound not like native speakers. They probably learned a bit and now think they are experts.
