Can we just appreciate that John is in his 70s and still sounds this good after decades of singing. Amazing
Absolutely!!!
He sounds even better in person! Just got to go to a Petra concert a couple weeks ago! So amazing! :)
I love how the joy is just oozing out of Dan in this one. This experience meant so much to him and you can feel it. That's one of the things that makes this so special. Please keep covering Dan!
I heard Petra live recently 50 years of rocking for the Lord I was very privileged to have lived this long to see them all these years
I just saw them a couple of weeks ago, and just so amazing still!
What you say may well be true, but all I hear and see is pure joy and happiness at singing with one of his idols... Daniel has a beautiful smile and that is what I'm seeing...🥰
🙃🐨🇦🇺
This song, and seing their unadulterated joy, lifted my mood about a thousand degrees.
Thats what music is about.
Agree ❤🎉🎉
Many people don’t realize that John Schlitt was the original singer for Head East back in the 70s. He can be heard on tracks like Since You’ve Been Gone and Never Been Any Reason.
The fact that he can still sing as well as he does in his 70s is a testament to how well he has taken care of his instrument.
John is the vocalist who influenced Dan to become a singer and develop his voice. Doing this video was a career highlight for Dan . This is an aural delight for sure. Vocals, instrumentals and all. Thank you for this.
Love Dan Vasc - SO talented ❤
Such joyful music with a true message, love it❤
Petra was my first favorite "Christian Rock " band and the first concert I ever attended in Kansas City in 1984!❤ 🎶 🎸 🎙 🥁 🎹
Great reaction to this great song! The joy in it, especially from Dan, is because he's singing with the band that made him want to become a singer. He heard Petra do Jekyll and Hyde, and that is what made him want to become a singer. Have you heard him do Nessun Dorma? He absolutely crushes it! One little caveat about the way he pronounces his words - he lives in Brazil and his native language is Brazilian português, with very different pronunciation of English. He sings so incredibly well in English, though. All in all, a great reaction, and it's obvious you admire his singing as much as us non-voice experts. Thanks for another great reaction! Please🙏 do more reactions to Dan.
Y’all knocked this one out of the park
I like this song and ❤️ Dan😊
Go listen to Dan sing Amazing Grace, he’ll give lots to talk about 😊
Seeing as John Schlitt has had a 40+ year career and can still belt it out, I'd say he's doing something right. Also, don't harp too much on the vowel placement for Dan. He's not a native english speaker. His english is good but his native language is Portuguese which comes out in his singing. If you're listening to english language singing, remember that many of the consonant and vowel sounds in our words come from the old english and anglo-saxon words. Speakers coming from Latin-based languages often struggle to place the amount of emphasis on these vowel sounds and shifts that we native English speakers might expect.
It's not that Dan is singing wrong or poorly. He's "translating" sounds in his head and they're coming out differently than we might expect them to. If you want to see a fascinating experiment in this, look up the Anglish language. It was something of an attempt to remove non-English and Anglo-Saxon words from the English language. Loan words from Romance languages are removed entirely. Lots of Greek goes bye-bye too. You can find articles and things that have been re-written in Anglish, so get one and try to do a dramatic reading of it. You end up sounding very important and terse like Winston Churchill.
Oh Dan Vasc 😻
I don’t know all the technical stuff but I think this was really awesome sing by all of them!
Thanks so much for reacting to this great song! The joy and fun they're having is so apparent. As Josiah mentioned in the comments, this song (and the Petra band) is incredibly important to Dan. I really love your explanations of how Dan is using his body/throat/face etc to sing - really interesting! Dan has done so many great songs -- Nessum Dorma would be interesting for you to react to since that's more your style - Dan does a beautiful job even though that's not really his training style. Gethsemane is an emotional and powerful theatrical performance. Battle Hymn is a completely different style - very raw and intense (I think it was made around the time his dad was sick and dying.) Again -- sooo many great performances by Dan. I can't wait for you to review more of his songs! Thanks again so much - I'm learning a lot from your videos!
Petra - My all time favorite Christian Rock band! This is totally awesome! 💖
☀️Spiritual 🎸 Powerful ☀️
Great reaction / analysis, I always love how you explain the details. I'm not a singer and the way you analyse / explain things makes me appreciate even more all the great singers out there and the work you all put into making us music lovers happy!
Thanks for your great reaction to this very special song!
This was so fun watching! They all were having a great time and was so awesome. Loved this, made my day♥️
Thank you! Such a fun song. 🎶 I learned some new things about singing technique etc by watching your video. You really know your stuff!
I saw John Schlitt and John Lawry in April 2024 doing a show with members of the ACLJ (American Centers for Law and Justice). John Schlitt is a board member for ACLJ. It was a great show and he sounds just the same. So much energy for being in his 70s. He was a big influence for Dan and Dan's joy is very evident. Loved this!!
❤️ DAN PLUS❤️
That was very interesting. It was also interesting that you mentioned working at keeping a singing voice going when you're almost 75. Well...I just turned 74 last week (11/29/2023). For me, I'm working hard at getting at least a good part of my previous range back. I had been dealing with rheumatoid arthritis for many years, and finally reached the point where both of my hip joints had to be replaced. Once they were, I was finally able to straighten enough to stand and walk again. That was back in 2017. Since then, I have slowly been working on getting my voice back in shape. Before the RA took effect, I had just over a six-octave range. I could still sing in my bass range (and can go down to Tim Foust's lowest note), and fairly well into my lower tenor range, but everything else had pretty much left me. One of my grandsons (we live with our youngest daughter, her husband and their eight children...who are just a part of the whole tribe) LOVES to tell his teenage friends that his grandma is a bass singer. 😀
I don't know if you've seen Dan's "Hallelujah [Chorus]" (from Handel's "The Messiah"). If you have, you know how Dan stacked the parts. I used to be able to sing every single one of those parts. I also helped choir directors with teaching the parts to all of the choir members, and I could fill in where needed, if someone turned up ill for a performance, etc. Since 2017, I had fairly easily recovered both of my tenor voices and up into a low soprano, but I was fighting two very important register changes that weren't coming easily to me like they used to. When I head Dan sing "Amazing Grace," and began to watch his other videos as well, I watched his posture and the way he carries his voice up and down the scale so easily, and began to realize how many things I had simply forgotten about posture and breathing, during the 15 years or so that my voice had been squashed.
I had mentioned these things in a comment on the "Hallelujah Chorus" video, and a couple of weeks later, I received a .pdf in my e-mail, or Dan's "Healthy Voice" e-book, which is SUPER! It helped me get those register changes going MUCH more smoothly. Now I'm working on getting the notes that I can still HEAR in my brain, to be heard by my muscles, and allowed to flow! I sing "Amazing Grace" with Dan pretty much every day, and one of these days, I'm GOING to get back up to that high note, that I USED to be able to just sail right into.
Earlier today, I was singing along with this song (which is probably why your reaction popped up). So just now, while I was listening to your reaction and trying out some of the things you said (most of which are pretty natural to me in the first place, but a couple weren't). I will be taking those things into careful consideration, because I could DEFINITELY feel and hear the difference with the higher notes that John Schlitt was hitting, from the way I had been singing them earlier. So...thank you very much. I appreciate the input (and the rest of the reaction). 😀
Have you listened to Dan’s Nessun Dorma, Sound of Silence, My Immortal, Sleeping Sun, and My Heart Will Go On! He can sing anything and always does an “All In” epic performance!!!!
So cool! It is like John Schlit and Greg X. Volz teamed up and did not try to outdo each other .
Great review!!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Agree 🎉🎉🎉❤
There's a couple of things I'm going to say and that is nobody should be criticizing John schlitt, Dan vasc or John Lawry. Unless you could sing like any of them keep your mouth shut especially John schlitt at his age he is amazing I remember him back with Head East.
He’s doing a critique, not a criticism.
Love it. Great beat.
dang........if this doesn't put a smile on your face and make you just feel good over; then idk...thanks for the great analysis. so much involved yet they look to be just having fun.
Amazing🎉🎉🎉. Thanks for doing this. Such joy…
Dan’s a baritone, though, who can play with the tenors.
John is like 70 in this vid
Great reaction
i seen PETRA live wake up call tour
That must've been an amazing experience!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
His difference in sounds may be related to the fact that he is from a different country and would have a different accent, or maybe it's just a stylistic thing for him, as ive seen him do it in other songs of his as well.
🥰🥰🥰
I didn’t know this was a voice lesson session. Dan is a very intelligent man and is very Health conscience so I believe he knows what he is doing. Your examples need work!!
Hey Dan my friend do you listen to Stryper calling on you would be a good one for you 🙏❤️
Ps reaction dimash new song (Sos2021) next level 🔥 epic
Let's listen to music .. your opinions do not count . Can you frigging sing?
Yes, we in Vasc Nation can be fiercely protective over Dan, Dan’s singing, Dan’s performances, etc…. but this is supposed to be a reaction video, by a vocal coach, so that is what should be expected. I don’t think your statement was fair.
Agree @user-gc 👏👏
