2020 has been a difficult year for most of us, but we pray that you keep hoping and believing that things will take a turn for the better sooner, if not later.
This year, Joaquin, an active and extroverted 6-year-old boy also had to deal with his share of the pandemic. It has been difficult for him not to be able to go out and see his friends. He also started in a new school and has not been able to see his classmates in person. Other people bring out good energy from him, but for the time being he has to be a bit more patient than usual. It may not sound significant to those who have had to face COVID in the eye, but every person's journey is valid and needs corresponding support.
Joaquin has then turned to his trusty friend, Music, more often than usual in the past year. He began 2020 learning one instrument at a time by himself. He learned to sing and play simple nursery rhymes in different languages. I don't think he anticipated that he'd be learning mainstream songs by the end of the year, and busking in front of a crowd at that. Music has given him something to look forward to when this is all over when he is able to gather with his loved ones.
He has learned a LOT this year. And though he is still grappling with the challenges in performing as a 6-year-old, we hope you receive this song for what it is--slow and steady baby steps towards a bigger dream, a bigger picture.
This year may have been long and slow for you, and sometimes feeling like you were even moving backwards. But know that as long as you are here, whether you are filled with joy or grief, hopefulness or hopelessness, anger or numbness, as long as you are here, you are taking steps forward, and we can all continue to give each other hope.
