I have been consuming minimalism content for over 10 years... Joshua Becker is one of a small few out here on RUclips that isn't "helping us" with affiliate links to all sorts of items we can buy in order to "help" us achieve a minimalist lifestyle. I have been following this channel for about four years. He to this day, has stayed on topic, not contradicting the message of minimalism with consumerist messages.

The Minimal Mom calls this the silent to do list. I really enjoy your videos that explain psychological principles like this. This was a good reminder not to multitask! Thanks.

Your cadence was refreshing, not like the hurried fast talkers that seem to be getting most of the press these days (and that also make me want to skip the video). Thankful for your inspiring insights here ❤. Blessings from above and within!

Great! This motivated me to break down the dreading task "declutter the basement" into small steps. I went there and COMPLETED the step "declutter the top of the sideboard"!!! :)

This is a great video. In addition to the one-minute rule, I remember in one video, you suggested limiting one's to do list to three items per day with the most important being first on the list. These two tips have kept me from going into mental overload many-a-time.

The cluttered mind really applies to me. My biggest struggle is cleaning the kitchen after dinner. It really nags at me that it isn't done but I still drag it out all night.

Try cleaning as you go. I have one side of my sink about 1/3 filled with hot soapy water. Many dishes used for prep can be washed right after use and put to drain or dried and out away. After the meal put leftovers away as plates and silverware soak. Once the leftovers if there are any are stored rinse the plates and silverware and load the dishwasher. If no dishwasher time for a new sink of hot suds. Wash cups and glasses first, plates, serving dishes, then silverware which was soaking in the water. Pots and pans last. Wipe counter off counter and stovetop as water drains. Wipe out sink, leave dishcloth and dish towel to dry and put them in the laundry tomorrow. Sounds like a lot, but basically it is a simple clean as you go procesd. Kitchen is clean, sink is shiny and you are done so your mind is clear gor the evening. You can do it!

I have absolutely no energy by the evening. I'm a morning person and I'd much rather bounce out of bed and do the dishes in 10 minutes than spend an hour cleaning the kitchen in the evening.

This is even worse when you have obsessive tendencies along with perfectionism. Lol. Learning to manage it better now tho. Two things there tho. Being too driven or compelled/burning out with so much “I have to” or “it has to be just so” or a lot more troubled thoughts or “carrying weight” with procrastination. May be harder for women also Bcuz we tend to notice EVERYTHING. Same for detailed people. I had to learn pacing skills and better prioritizing and def “canceling” some of them (Aka letting go. Rethinking what I need to be “responsible”‘for and what all I was taking on that I didn’t need to). Def that was a boundary issue also.

David Allen came up with the 2 minute rule way back in 2001. I guess that's too long, now. He wrote the book on Getting Things Done, but it upsets people because it's more complicated than can be summarized in a 7 minute video.

I was just thinking yesterday, why do I keep thinking about the piles I have to finish for our neighborhood 'free" day, the consign pile for next week and the donate pile for church. It was making me a little anxious with the "pending" part of it and the paper clutter I need to go through. It's like my mind just wants it done.
