Today's the 30th anniversary of this game, which I remember well from listening to radio bulletins. I was 12 then. I loved the 8-team format of the European Championship with only the qualifying group winners reaching the finals, which were played over a fortnight. 1984 was almost certainly the finest edition of the European Championship ever played, although it was largely ignored here in the UK after Yugoslavia's very late winner ending the last hope of any British representation by eliminating Wales.
Bulgaria had a trully golden opportunity to make it 2-3 seconds before the last goal; had they scored they would have qualified to France 84. Such is destiny.

Very true. And had the game ended in a draw then Wales would have qualified instead of either of them. Crazy situation that any of the three nations could still have won the group with a minute to go.
Croatia. I was 9. I came home from school and had a chance to see the last ten minutes. I was out of myself when Radanovic scored. :)) I even remember the two matches against Wales. Ian Rush was the man I was afraid of. Liverpool, Liverpool! ;))
Well...yeah, it Croatia was part of Yugoslavia then, was it not? Sport was huge in Yugoslavia. The country had some of the finest talents in Europe and not just in football, but in basketball, volleyball, water polo, handball, etc...

My favorite will always be Prosinecki. Speaking of EURO 2012, the group is far from being easy, and it will be even more difficult. Why? I bet Italy will win against Spain and then we'll be in trouble. We were having problems with our Irish friends in the past (despite that fabulous goal by Suker in Zagreb in 1999). I'm afraid we'll be having new problems in June. ;)) Very unlucky against Turkey but Croatia hit back in Istanbul last year.
