What I love about beekeeping is it is both complex and simple. Provides challenge but some things are really easy, like not having to worry about where your queen is when you split :D
Great idea Craig I like that . You are correct about the longer you wait . This spring I did nine walk always just to see how good it would work for me . All of the queens made it back and did good but not great . One of the hives I had to add larvae three times to get it to take and get her back and laying. I would love to try my luck at the grafting but with age the eyes go downhill lol . So next spring I will try finding some one that has queens I guess . Thanks for all your information .
Thanks Craig. I am going from double brood boxes to 1 deep and a medium and this helped alot. I have some luck grafting, but do you think it would work as well as a walk away with the appropriate eggs and larvae. Have a great vacation.
It can definitely work as a walk away, however the percentages are normally a little bit lower, but with the double screen board if they fail to make a queen, you can easily recombine the two and try again later. We typically have about 80% success. Keep in mind the percentage goes down the later you get in the season.
Hey Kathy! I don't have any and i'm not sure of anyone near me that does. Sorry! I think Bruce from Bruce's bees may could point you in the right direction.
I received them last week. Have not had the chance to use them yet, but will be this week. I appreciate them and will let you know how the work. Thanks again.
You are caught with two unfun tasks. Either hunt for the queen in a huge pile of bees or try to get 2 boxes of bees into one. LOL This process is easier when the hives aren't tight against each other. If your queens crap out this time of the year do you have some 2-3 frame nucs banking queens? What % of the queens die in the summer after the flow? Us beeks up north hope to get 2-3 years on a good queen.
I would say we suffer about 30% queen issues after the flow. From queenless, supersedure ect. We go through them quite often in the summer to make sure we have a good queen going into the fall.
I like using the double screen board, works great!
They are the best kept secret in beekeeping.
Always nice to learn of new ways of getting results, lets you pick the best method for you :)
I totally agree. Thanks for watching
Awesome Job and advice as always brother! God Bless you and your Bees!!!
Thanks 🙏! Same to you.
Thanks for sharing the info. Wish my hives looked that nice and clean.

couldn't agree more.
I do the deep and medium brood boxes to help. Thanks Craig!!
Thanks! Thanks for watching.
Thanks, I think I am going to utilize this method after I pull my honey.
It works great! Especially after the main flow. Thanks for watching.

you should for sure try grafting. I wear a type of magnifying glass setup that works great. Give it a try.
Looks good. Hope they make it home. As it gets hotter the bees gets hotter. Thanks
They sure do!

Do you need to go back and check for queen cells?
We always do! Just in case we missed one before.

Why are you splitting so early. Sourwood should be blooming pretty soon
We don’t have sourwood in our area. Thanks for watching.
