  • Baldur’s Gate 3 on PS5 is a perfect RPG. A bold claim, but one we’ll stand by - we’re absolutely obsessed with Larian’s D&D epic: the characters, the combat, the choices! Baldur’s Gate 3 PS5 truly has it all, so join Ash for this celebration of what makes this RPG work so well.
If you’ve read any Baldur’s Gate 3 review you’ll know this is one of the highest reviewed games of all time and is being celebrated as an ultimate example of the RPG form. Playing BG3 PS5 has certainly opened our eyes to the amazing flexibility of its story, a tale that delivers brutal consequences to your choices but also respects the tiniest details of your hero’s life. Our Baldur’s Gate PS5 adventure will be very different to yours - and therein lies the magic.
We’ve tried to keep the video spoiler-free and have limited our Baldur’s Gate 3 PS5 gameplay to the first act of the story. But you will see some of our custom characters in action and Astarion doing something terrible with a goblin foot.
If you’d like to know more about how Larian Studios brought Baldur’s Gate 3 to PS5, why not check out our chat with the game’s director Swen Vincke - he’s got advice on what character to pick first and whether it’s okay to endlessly reload your BG3 save. See Swen in action here: • Baldur’s Gate 3 - How ...
And do let us know if you’ve picked up Baldur’s Gate 3. What adventures have you experienced? Just try to keep it spoiler free, yeah?

I'm not familiar with DnD, at all, and I don't really like turn based combat games, so I had some reservations about Baldurs Gate that I believe most people that are in the same situation as me will have. Will I like the game? Will I have a good time with it? I ended up buying it, and I'm about 10 hours in and my feedback on for someone on the fence with the same reservations I had is:
character creation is a bit overwhelming because, beeing a noob, I didn't want to lock myself out of a good time or create a hard character to master. Just chose something that appealed to me and went with it. Loving it.
The game is very engaging from the start, and, even without any lore knowledge I was able to pick on the story and getting very invested in it.
There are a lot of options and commands for your party and individual characters, but it's not overly complicated, pretty straightforward actually, takes a bit of trial and error to understand what does what, and when to use it. Easy to understand hard to master I'd say.
Even though I'm not a fan of turn based combat, I'm really enjoying the combat on BG3. It's fun and lets you be creative.
Another overwhelming aspect is all the options the game offers. You have lots of ways to tackle the same problem/situation. That can be stressful when you're worried of making a bad decision or locking yourself out of content, but it's part of the game, it's literaly roll of the dice on some ocasions, so I just go with it and it's really rewarding cause it just offers you alternatives and a new challenge without seeming unfair.
Mind you, I'm playing on the easiest difficulty setting so I can learn my way around the game, and so far I think I made the right decision, because it's a lot to learn for newcomers.
Overall, I'm having a great time with BG3, I agree it's a fenomenal game and if you had the same reservations I had, you'll probably be surprised with how much you'll enjoy a type of game you never been really interested in. Hope it helps.

Play it three times of ACT 1 on my Steam Deck on release day for the PC. Then comes PS5 Early Access and had to restart fresh and didn't use my PC cross-play saves to continue ACT 1. Honestly through these four replay of ACT 1 I keep finding new experience and narrative tailored to me as the player and how I shape my game play. Just found out as a player can morph into different size to get through a crack in the wall from this video, its another thing I learned and never knew I can do so and thought just reserved to Druid that morph into small animal to get around.
Hands down GOTY for me of 2023 and a CRPG well deserved. BG3 has thousands of ways to play as player shape the narrative than just being a simple go there and fetch this quests which we all experience in RPG games before. Kudos to Larian Studio giving players options of surprises than mundane chores!

I wanted to comment and double down on how clutch and important turn based mode is when you’re not in combat.
Some spells and effects will last until your next long rest.
But many of the very clutch spells like invisibility last for 10 turns, or some potions, like potions of invisibility I believe only last three turns. If you cast invisibility, and you’re NOT in turn base mode, it’s something like 10 seconds and that 10 seconds will tick down whether you’re moving or not. But if you enter turn based mode, like the video says time essentially freezes so this makes it way easier to use your invisibility without fear of the timer ticking down while you’re taking time to think.
It sounds simple, but it took me a a while to realize that.

This is the first ever game where I felt connected to the story so immersive. I always try to tag along with the storylines of other games but never got grafted in because with this game "Choices" matter! There was a test I had taken online which gives you the best choice of character to create and usually I would choose something that seemed the coolest but personality wise this test said a Cleric would fit my personality so thats what I chose. The strategy that goes into the combat and the decision making that has to be made on your part keeps me engaged to find out what would happen next due to my personality choices is phenomenal. I was on the edge of buying this game because turn base I love playing because I loved Xcom2 but story driven games don't intrigue me that much because I get bored easily and I'm more of a fast paced type of gamer but with this being such an immersive experience it has kept me fascinated on what could happen next. As far as I know this game has set the bar high for rpg's and thats a good thing because now developers have to get on there J.O.B aka S.H.I.T. This game is a must buy for any true gamer!

your comment about it sounding like gears slowly coming to a halt and Faerûn feeling like a machine...
I thing you're getting the material plane confused with the outer plane Machanus. That plane is literally a huge clockwork machine. Sorry, couldn't resist. And yes, that is an actual plane in the D&D multiverse.
I'm running on PC, but I know the only reason PS5 was released later is Larian wanted to put out as perfect a game as humanly possible. I think they managed to pull that off.
My main campaign is a Wood Elf Gloomstalker Ranger with the Outlander background, Urban Tracker Natural Explorer, and Bounty Hunter favored enemy. Just a fun fact - Wood Elf, Ranger, Outlander, with Natural Explorer: Urban Tracker and Favored Enemy: Bounty Hunter gives you all of the available Ranger skills. I'm playing on Tactician and loving it.

The learning curve is huge. My first time playing this series and type of game. Same for my wife.
We’ve got 26 hours in together and still learning. A lot is confusing, but as each hour passes and after some Google and RUclips searching, more is making sense.

I just finished my first play through on PC last night, and it’s definitely the best RPG I’ve ever played. It’s not perfect, there are some bugs and quirks to be expected from such a huge systems driven game, but I didn’t experience anything game breaking and it didn’t take away from the overall amazing experience. The writing and voice acting/mocap is soooo good and really brings the characters to life and gets you invested in their stories.

Over all, I'm genuinely impressed by the game. And it does reflect the randomness of D&D pretty well. I've literally failed rolls with a difficulty of TWO in one scene and taken down a minotaur in a single round in the next. My main complaint though is the 'End Turn' button... lost count of the number of times I've accidentally ended my turn while trying to flip through the options. Other than that and some mechanical and inventory issues, yeah... it's pretty much one of the best RPGs I've seen in quite some time.

Most of the RPG greats are always single player - Elder Scrolls, Witcher, Dragon Age etc. The game itself is a masterpiece but the hijinks my friends and I have gotten into have taken it to a 15/10 experience. @@davidcopplestone6266 I played through that already! Great game but I definitely think BG3 has taken that games formula and perfected it. DOSII had a lot of systems I didn’t like, such as magic and physical armor kinda forcing you into certain builds especially later on. I also like the more defined classes in this game compared to DOSII as well as the cinematic dialogue as opposed to solely text based. Character models and overall visuals are also vastly improved(the character models in DOSII were kinda comical, they had their charm but I much prefer the more realistic and detailed models here). DOSII was a 10/10 for me but BG3 has been an 11/10 so far.
