Fun fact: In the song when the music stops, the member speaks in his own accent (most Ateez members are from the countryside but have been trained to speak Seoul dialect in their content). The video: Appears to be based on Volcano High, a popular Korean movie in 2001 about a transfer student with special powers who ends up at a school with warring factions who are trying to find a book of power. Ateez's twist--The book they find when they put their powers together is essentially a book of morality, a book about 멋. (If you want more details watch Form of Therapy's reaction). Finally, their dance practices are amazing. I highly recommend reacting to all 4 of the DPs. What's really crazy is how good their vocals are live even though their choreo is super hard. The reason you are having a hard time understanding the music videos is that all of them are connected in a long anime like storyline. But even if you watch them in order it can be confusing, and you don’t need to watch them in order to enjoy them. All you really need to know is that 1 album = 1 episode of their story. 3-5 episodes = 1 chapter. In this story Ateez are pirates that can travel through time and between dimension A and dimension Z, using that magic hourglass that was broken at the end of Crazy Form. (Although really it broke at the end of the Deja Vu music video) always they are fighting against these bad guys with chains where their faces should be. Sometimes they team up with themselves from the other dimension. Ateez are from dimension A and Halateez (aka The Black Pirates) are from dimension Z.
The beat in The Real is not middle eastern, it's traditional Korean beat, the whole song is fully about Korean culture, you should watch the live performance on Kingdom, it's amazing!

They are some of the best performers. They were the first K-pop boy group to perform Coachella. They are now the first Korean artist to perform at Mawazine, which is a huge music festival. Check out more of them because they have B-sides that are just as good as title tracks. They are literally amazing at everything. For The Real, the mv is loosely based off the movie series High & Low where u have diff young street “gangs” (like jocks, bikers, etc) but rather than fighting they learn they’re more powerful when they come together. The song is about keeping your humility and forsaking it to be cool etc. which is exactly who ateez are - humble kind & cool

Honestly, every song of theirs is amazing. spotify tells me i have about 109 of their songs liked, soo 👀 the thing with ATEEZ is, as much as their title track slaps, they have sooo many softer songs and pretty much dabbled in every possible genre. pick one and i can probably give you an ATEEZ song 🤌🏻 but for next i would recommend Fireworks (I’m the One), Deja Vu, Eternal Sunshine, Guerrilla and Turbulence, just to get a whiff of how frraking dicerse their discography is. or maybe the 4 unit songs: MATZ, IT’s You, Youth and Everything 🤍 and yeah, dance their practices are amazing!
Highly recommend watching their dance practices and stage performances! Their MVs are powerful but even in a practice room they still keep up that incredible acting and tell story just through their choreo. And their stage performances? This was so fun to watch, I never watch long vids but time flew! What's amazing is they can sing that well live WHILE dancing full concerts 😵 The dance practices are satisfying to watch! The backstory is complicated and interesting. They have a lot of funny and variety show videos, which are fun to watch and make it even more fun to listen to when you get to know the members and their personalities etc! The crazy songs lure you in but they have alot of other songs that are more lighthearted and airy, or slow and meaningful - but they are literally all good.

The music video for The Real is a take on the movie "Volcano High". in the most basic of terms, there are 3 clubs in the school; caligraphy, baseball, and motorcycle clubs, and they're all trying/battling to recruit the new kid (Mingi). Yeosang (the one with the bread) is not in any of the clubs, which is why you see him by himself all the time, and he's meant to represent "peace". I've never seen the movie, but i believe there is some kind of supernatural element, which is why Mingi seems to have powers. 😊

the first one that got me into the Ateez rabbit hole was their '해적왕(Pirate King)' Performance Video, the zombie one (and I don't usually watch anything with zombies 'cause they terrify me!! ) but that one got me hooked for life 🥰
the piece of toast is a pretty cool reference. the whole video has this shonen manga/anime vibe, with a new kid and several groups trying to fight/win him over and a resolution involving the entire school. the toast in the mouth is short hand for the main character or an otherwise important figure: a kid (sometimes the new kid) introduced as woken up late by an alarm or a parent, and rushing out of the house with a piece of toast in their mouth bc they missed breakfast to hurry to school.

I would venture to say that ATEEZ has the best lore of the 4th generation of KPOP, precisely because it is so complex and creative, making you want to deepen your knowledge with them even further. Summarizing some of their traditions in sentences: They are pirates who are fugitives from a bad government, which does not impose freedom. The “leader” is called Hongjoong, but the other members and we don't call him that, we call him captain (If someone calls him leader, he'll give a lecture haha 😂). They are travelers who use an hourglass to travel between two completely opposite dimensions, dimension A and dimension Z (it even becomes a pun on the group's name, A-tee-Z). Dimension A is a world of utopia, while dimension Z is a world of dystopia. Since their MVs do tell a story, I'd watch Guerrilla next--it was actually the first in the series, so it's hard to explain what's going on in those videos without having the first installment. The Real:
The song title 멋 is a Korean word without a direct English equivalent--real, style, and cool are attempts to catch the meaning, but it has an underlying idea of honor, so it's about how what's really cool/stylish is to be humble, respectful*, and kind. *Bowing is one way Koreans show respect which is why there was a lot of bowing and sayings like lower your head and bend down as you mature. Watch your mouth is probably a reminder to speak with respect to your elders as Korean uses different sentence endings to convey respect. Fun fact: In the song when the music stops, the member speaks in his own accent (most Ateez members are from the countryside but have been trained to speak Seoul dialect in their content).
The video: Appears to be based on Volcano High, a popular Korean movie in 2001 about a transfer student with special powers who ends up at a school with warring factions who are trying to find a book of power. Ateez's twist--The book they find when they put their powers together is essentially a book of morality, a book about 멋. (If you want more details watch Form of Therapy's reaction).
Finally, their dance practices are amazing. I highly recommend reacting to all 4 of the DPs. What's really crazy is how good their vocals are live even though their choreo is super hard. For lives, KQ hasn't been blocking reactions to re-uploads of their concert DVDs.

The reason you are having a hard time understanding the music videos is that all of them are connected in a long anime like storyline. But even if you watch them in order it can be confusing, and you don’t need to watch them in order to enjoy them. All you really need to know is that 1 album = 1 episode of their story. 3-5 episodes = 1 chapter. In this story Ateez are pirates that can travel through time and between dimension A and dimension Z, using that magic hourglass that was broken at the end of Crazy Form. (Although really it broke at the end of the Deja Vu music video) always they are fighting against these bad guys with chains where their faces should be. Sometimes they team up with themselves from the other dimension. Ateez are from dimension A and Halateez (aka The Black Pirates) are from dimension Z.

They are some of the best performers. They were the first K-pop boy group to perform Coachella. They are now the first Korean artist to perform at Mawazine, which is a huge music festival. Check out more of them because they have B-sides that are just as good as title tracks. They are literally amazing at everything. They dance hard, give vocals for days , and perform their asses off every time. Also, they have a storyline, so it's hard to understand their mvs if you don't know the storyline somewhat. ❤
For The Real, the mv is loosely based off the movie series High & Low where u have diff young street “gangs” (like jocks, bikers, etc) but rather than fighting they learn they’re more powerful when they come together. The song is about keeping your humility and forsaking it to be cool etc. which is exactly who ateez are - humble kind & cool

Honestly, every song of theirs is amazing. spotify tells me i have about 109 of their songs liked, soo 👀 the thing with ATEEZ is, as much as their title track slaps, they have sooo many softer songs and pretty much dabbled in every possible genre. pick one and i can probably give you an ATEEZ song 🤌🏻 but for next i would recommend Fireworks (I’m the One), Deja Vu, Eternal Sunshine, Guerrilla and Turbulence, just to get a whiff of how frraking dicerse their discography is. or maybe the 4 unit songs: MATZ, IT’s You, Youth and Everything 🤍 and yeah, dance their practices are amazing!

This was so fun to watch, I never watch long vids but time flew! What's amazing is they can sing that well live WHILE dancing full concerts 😵 The dance practices are satisfying to watch! The backstory is complicated and interesting. They have a lot of funny and variety show videos, which are fun to watch and make it even more fun to listen to when you get to know the members and their personalities etc! The crazy songs lure you in but they have alot of other songs that are more lighthearted and airy, or slow and meaningful - but they are literally all good.

The music video for The Real is a take on the movie "Volcano High". in the most basic of terms, there are 3 clubs in the school; caligraphy, baseball, and motorcycle clubs, and they're all trying/battling to recruit the new kid (Mingi). Yeosang (the one with the bread) is not in any of the clubs, which is why you see him by himself all the time, and he's meant to represent "peace".
I've never seen the movie, but i believe there is some kind of supernatural element, which is why Mingi seems to have powers.

the first one that got me into the Ateez rabbit hole was their '해적왕(Pirate King)' Performance Video, the zombie one (and I don't usually watch anything with zombies 'cause they terrify me!! ) but that one got me hooked for life 🥰
the piece of toast is a pretty cool reference. the whole video has this shonen manga/anime vibe, with a new kid and several groups trying to fight/win him over and a resolution involving the entire school. the toast in the mouth is short hand for the main character or an otherwise important figure: a kid (sometimes the new kid) introduced as woken up late by an alarm or a parent, and rushing out of the house with a piece of toast in their mouth bc they missed breakfast to hurry to school.

I would venture to say that ATEEZ has the best lore of the 4th generation of KPOP, precisely because it is so complex and creative, making you want to deepen your knowledge with them even further. Summarizing some of their traditions in sentences: They are pirates who are fugitives from a bad government, which does not impose freedom. The “leader” is called Hongjoong, but the other members and we don't call him that, we call him captain (If someone calls him leader, he'll give a lecture haha 😂). They are travelers who use an hourglass to travel between two completely opposite dimensions, dimension A and dimension Z (it even becomes a pun on the group's name, A-tee-Z). Dimension A is a world of utopia, while dimension Z is a world of dystopia. As you can see in their MVs, you will notice that in many there will be a small recording at the end, usually with some sound/beat in the background, these are spoilers for the next MV to be released, along with some information about their tradition in their look. (the ending of Bouncy is the spoiler for the song Crazy Form.
