  • Have you done your Rising revision?
It's a huge year for Ireland as the Republic celebrates the centenary anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising.
You may have heard something about it?
There's no shortage of articles, events and talks to mark the occasion, but one of the more unique ways the anniversary has come into the public light was when John Savage chose it as his specialist subject on the challenging BBC quiz show, Mastermind.
John didn't fare too badly in his knowledge of the Rising, but see if you can beat his score in the video below.
Incidentally, JOE's specialist subject for Mastermind is The Emancipation of the Dissonance in the music of Arnold Schoenberg and others in the Twentieth Century, but we haven't been invited on to the show yet to show that off.
    Some day...

Well remember... This is a British show
That's not something that would be taught in English schools as much. I do history, and the amount you cover for the Easter rising covered a good bit of detail, but some of those questions meant you had to be an expert in that topic so it was a bit harder then I expected.

i had an english roommate years ago in boston and she told me during her years of school they learnt about the english civil war , the american revolution , general european history and history of the empire , but ,, the word Ireland was not mentioned once in history , geography or anywhere else , she obviously knew the Irish were bombing england when she lived there but never knew why and it was assumed the bombings were a result of us hating the english for no reason , thats how proud they are of their history !
