I miss your cattle!!! It’s late here in Oregon but I started what will be a “start from the beginning Sheepishly Me marathon!” I’m in isolation from that “nasty virus” 🦠 and I couldn’t think of a better way to lift my spirits than to watch your channel! I pray you all had an amazing Christmas, God Bless! Back to the 🏃♀️ marathon! 🐂🐏🐑
Hello there Sandi. Found you during COVID and slowly trying to catch up on all your videos. You are an inspiration to many people with your energy and determination to achieve your goals. That smile of yours is a beautiful light that shines on you. It’s infectious. I believe that when you smile everyone that watches you smiles too. That you for all that you share, all that you teach. You have grown so much in these 5 years of sharing these videos.
Not sure if you get messages on old videos, but I started at #1 and am working my way through. Please don't be upset, but I am so glad you changed the way you do the music.
Yes... the farm is primarily a grain farm, so our acres are dedicated to growing crops... The coverall building works well, as the sheep have the feel of being outside, but still have a roof over their head.
Sheep breed naturaly between end of august and november/december. But Sandi uses basicaly sheep birth control so she can lamb her sheep whenever she wants. Sheep pregnancy is, if im not mistaken, 5 days shy of 5 months. If the ram humps his lady on the first of january, the lambs should be born around the 25th of may.
Thanks! Sheep naturally come into heat every 17 days (more so when they are in-season) so the fall for us in Canada. For me to breed them out of season, I rely on breeds shown to do so, I use CIDRs and PMSG to cycle them, some use teaser rams to also help bring ewes into heat. Gestation period is 5 months.
Sandi Brock Awesome. We raise dairy cows in southern ontario also. So I know a lot about heats, rations, ruminants. A lot of the things you talk about in your videos are similar to cows. Just another question You you have a a few different groups on the farm. A group of mature ewes (mothers), a group of rams, then you have “young” stock. Which group do you decide end up going to the market? Why?
Hey Ryan... You're right. Majority of the breeding stock now has Rideau bloodlines for sure. Two years ago I replaced almost half my flock with a composite breed I bought from John and Eadie Steele. Here is their website to find out more about their stock... www.shepherdschoice.ca/breeding.html Since buying these ewes, I've began keeping back their offspring and last year bred their first F1's back to Rideau rams. These I'm hoping will be my main replacement stock. (maternal line) As for the ewes lambing for the purpose of market lambs, I've bought Ile de France and Suffolk rams this past fall and expect to see those lambs this March to begin evaluation on market traits.
Who else is here that recently started watching the new stuff?! And now you are watching all Sandi's videos!?

My great-grandparents raised Hereferds in Kansas starting back in the 1930's. It's so great to see that you had them. ❤

Do you house your sheep all year round
Yes... the farm is primarily a grain farm, so our acres are dedicated to growing crops... The coverall building works well, as the sheep have the feel of being outside, but still have a roof over their head.
Sandi what do you use to mark your ewes for breeding?
I don't get why cows have 4 teeths when they only ever have one or twins then sheep usually have multiple amount of baby's
When is the best time of year to put rams in with your ewes
Depends on when u want to lamb

They need some nice romantic music ☺️
Absolutely magic breeding . procreation is important.
Just found som of your old as I have watched
Why do you paint the ewes instead of putting the paint on the rams or use a chalk harness?
I just don't want to mess around with 19 rams and their harnesses. If I only had a couple rams, I would use one.

You have an awesome operation.
Do sheep only come in heat once a year? What time of the year? How long is a gestation period for sheep
Thanks!
