Hi Allan. Thank you so much for your step-by-step instructions - very useful. I particularly appreciated your coverage of the power supply unit (PSU) you used. I have watched quite a few videos on installing and setting up HM7000 sound decoders and none so explicitly mentioned the PSU (possibly because different users have different setups). I did consider the PSU you bought but was dismayed at the price. I was searching for a cheaper but compatible PSU when I realised that I already had two, supplied with The Scotsman and Easterner train sets I bought earlier.

Hi Paul, thaks for your kind words on this video. Yes, I was annoyed at having to buy a new PSU after just buying new gaugemaster ones. I only realised this was going to be an issue when a saw a video by Sam's Trains where he damaged a decoder as he was using gaugemaster power. It was a bit confusing as Hornby originally claimed you could just use any old DC PSU but backtracked when issues were found. Glad you enjoyed the video!

Loved your presentation. What did you do with the dummy car? I fitted a standard decoder in my HST dummy cars.

Thanks so much for your comment! Unfortunately my dummy car was broken a few months before. I think there was a derailment which caused a power spike and it the PCB started smoking! If it was still working I would have acquired another decoder as I believe you can use the consist feature to run them as a pair. But I've not tried it myself.

I actually put the decoder in the wrong way. Nearly fried the whole system. Managed to save in though so yes PAY ATTENTION when you are installing pretty much ANY decoder. Also why does my HM 7000 cut out 3 consecutive times… almost looks like it’s trying to warn me…

That was nearly a disaster! Yes, these are fiddly little things to install and you need to be careful. Sorry, don't know why it cuts out unless maybe a track issue stopping the loco?
