    To everyone slagging off modellers! I’d never heard of Friedman until I bought a kemper and found a preset for a dirty Shirley! Since then I’ve sold the kemper and bought a BE Deluxe, twin sister and smallbox. Long live the modeller 😂

      I don't blame you, brother. Dave Friedman is a Tone Genius and Tone God. The first time I heard a Friedman Amp on You Tube, The BE-50 deluxe, I knew I had to have it, so I bought it. Ever since then, I've become addicted to Friedman. I also bought a Twin Sister, NoHo 24 guitar in Candy Yellow with a Gotoh 510 tremelo, a Friedman Smallbox Pedal (best pedal I have), a Friedman 4x12 speaker cabinet, with their standard speaker combination, 2 GB's on Top, and 2 Vintage 30's on the bottom, and a Friedman 2x12 speaker cabinet, where I had Sweetwater take out the 2 Vintage 30's that come with it, and had them put in 2 UK Made Celestion Greenbacks, my favorite speakers for any Plexi or Modded Plexi Amp. You might also want to check out Metropoulos Amps, made by George Metropoulos from Michigan, a close friend of Dave. George's amps are on par, with the same quality of Friedman Amps. They're also modded plexi amps. I bought a Metropoulos DVL-1, which George made for William Duvall, the lead singer of Alice In Chains. Fucking Incredible Amp. I hope Dave eventually starts making guitars again. He stopped when Grover Jackson moved to Tennessee. Friedman Guitars are freaking amazing. Top notch quality.

      this is true for me also. went to a party and the guy had the SS 100 killer amp but out of my budget. Then a kemper stage gave me a dirty shirley. Now I have a Synergy setup with a few friedman and Dave designed modules. Dave knows tone

    Great show! Page as a guest would be fucking epic! He’s the reason I picked up the guitar, one of the most influential guitarists of all time. Fuck, I would give anything to meet him and just say thank you for all of the music he created.

    Hey Dave, Boss EQ’s are no longer noisy. The new ones are quiet now. No need to buy a modded one now for that reason. ✌️

    I posted a comment to get Billy Rowe on. I continued watching the episode and you mentioned getting Billy on so I erased the comment. Great minds lol. He will be an awesome guest.

    Man, I just love these Dave+Marc eps. My question is why are people so obsessed with the idea of taking an amp that was made for one purpose and modding it to be something completely different instead of just selling it and buying the amp they want? It's 2023, not 1983 lol. There are options guys.

    Until I heard Dave talking about getting EVH out of the plexi module. I thought it was AC/DC 70/80's type of rock.( syn1 to pa). Syn 1 through rm50 it is so much more. Insane gain doesn't equal great tone

    IMHO for its size and price the JEL 20 is hands down the best amp i have heard on the market!
    There is nothing that little beast will not do tonally! YMMV?

    On the Guitar Summit just this weekend in Germany I played a Helix (Yamaha booth with Line6) and a Quad Cortex for the first time. The Helix was plain awful, whatever preset I chose. The Quad Cortex was ok, but had that typical 'digital shimmer', a layer on top of the 'real' amp sound. I play amps for +40 years. I got a Kemper for I don't know how long. The Kemper sounds like an amp with good profiles. I had people do blind tests in my studio, into guitar cab. None was able to tell the difference in quality between my ENGL and the profile of my ENGL. Yes, they sound a tad different. But does the Kemper sound digital - no. I can only imagine that the new generation of players simply always heard the 'digital shimmer' in the other units beside the Kemper and that never really bothered them. Or maybe, at some point, they do not even hear it any more.

      I agree about the Kemper. I have one and it’s very good (Marc here) but when you get it loud like at band levels…it doesn’t respond like an amp…it’s stiff and sits weird in the mix especially with another guitar player using a tube amp. I prefer tubes live. Kemper is great for recording and also home use.

      @@tone-talk Don't tell Dave... 🙂 ah, I guess he knows. BTW, at the Guitar Summit there were 2, 3 exhibitors with Friedman amps, also Synergy (why I also play). He was well represented. I might even have made photos, if he wants some.

    This might sound a bit silly...
    But, I wish Friedman would do a great sounding all tube bass amp.
    Still with me?
    I play mostly simple R&B, Rock, Pop from the last five to six decades. Some might call that ‘old school’ music...
    There’s many great bass amps out there, I know.
    With my various bands I gig a lot: at least once every week. Most of the times I’m not on the PA, just trying to make my sounds from my amp.
    The amps I loved the most are both guitar amps! I had a 100 watt old Soundcity once (Marshall like?) and a MusicMan 130 HD watt head like Clapton used. Both were more than loud enough and sounded great every time. But they broke down a lot (as in constantly...).
    There’s only one full tube bass amp I really liked: the Marshall VB-400. But, it was way too powerful and way too heavy to carry around! 🤣
    There’s no both high quality and ‘affordable’ simple tube bass heads anymore. I think about a 1000,- to 1500,- price tag at the most here.
    I thought a lot about what bassists like myself would need from such a full tube amp head.
    My thoughts:
    - a 100 watts simple tube amp. A clean high headroom sound if possible. Not for those who are lookin’ for all the transients and/ or detune a lot (low-end);
    - 15 to 50 watt option would be nice;
    - a nice sounding overdrive option (possibly easy to mix with the clean sound and not too many extra knobs!);
    - a high quality DI out (after the poweramp) with a few great sounding speakersimulation options, like three at the most;
    -Impedance: 2 to 16 ohms (it’ll work with anything...);
    - workhorse quality;
    - it does not have to sound exactly like Ampeg, Fender, Marshall, Orange or Hiwatt. Just creamy, warm and old school;
    - pedal friendly simple preamp. No ultra-low or ultra-high stuff, no five way mid-knob. Simple, like Fender or Marshall;
    - it does not have to be clean sounding at all volumes, gif it just some nice old-school warm girth;
    - a 300 watt version for the big guys and girls playing the stadiums!
    That’s all!
    This does not exist for the working bassist right now who isn’t always in the position to play over a PA. Most of the time we have to make our own sounds.
    I use one or more little Ampeg 2x10 AV cabinets.
    If there’s a guitar head Friedman builts that will do the job, I’ll get that instead!
    Cheers.
    🖖

    Per Mark's ampeg head, stay away from the matching cabs. I had one with v30s, and it was terrible. Replaced it with a birch orange cab. Much better.

    spot on with the downtune and less gain, more mids/highs.

    half an hour in Jose G asks about some of Dave's favorite riffs when testing an amp. In his answer Dave explained that you can't really tell much about an amp with lead and you have to play riffs and rhythms to get the real characteristics of the amp and that might have been an AHA! Moment for me. I'm thinking that the feel of the amp, meaning compression, response, sag, etc. are more for leads and the tone of the amp is more for the rhythm. Something to think about?
