    The "spike" is the wind sensor, it feeds the FCS with data about the wind speed and external temperature.
    There is no ejection port on the Leclerc. It is a tank designed to operate under NRBC conditions. The stubs, when they are ejected in normal mode, are deflected downward and end up on a repository at the bottom of the turret basket. Under strict NRBC procedures, the automatic opening of the breach can be disabled, the breach remains closed until the crew goes into a less polluted area to perform the reloading.

    • @alex-ragnarson3482
      @alex-ragnarson3482 6 лет назад +3

      Actually, the autoloading system is separeted from the crew compartiment

    • @wino0000006
      @wino0000006 5 лет назад +3

      This is why there is overpressure inside the tank to allow opening the breach.

    Never forget that the French invented the modern tank in 1917, with the Renault FT17 produced in 1917 and 1918 in thousands and thousands of copies. For French Army in first of course and also a part for the USA Army equiped by the French dice the beggining of 1918. Actually the thousands of French tanks FT17 are one of the main winners of the WW1.
    The German propaganda spoke even about “The Fear of Tanks” to explain their defeat. … … 22 years later in June 1940 the German Nazis don't forget these attacks in 1918 runned by thousands French FT17. BUT unfortunaly for them the French General Staff, yes…
    Still composed in 1940 with old soldiers who remained in 1918 in their mind and they used the French tanks in small unities, isolated and in defense. They should have read and especially listen, the book written in 1935 by a young French superior officer, proponent of the use of tanks in large unities and in attack protected by aircrafts: The Lieutenant Colonel CHARLES DE GAULLE.
    Cruel fate, the German Marshal Rommel confessed later, having read this book very carefully... ... And France experienced on own home soil in June 1940 the worst defeat of its long and distinguished military history dating back over 1500 years...

      Pandemonium Lig never forget the french also failed to understand how to use tanks.
      And there were many younger commanders at the time that envisioned the tanks to be more than infantry support and slow.

      @@kloschuessel773 Most of educated French will recognize the utter french tactical failure in 1940. For the rest i will not argue over it too much but France has quite few acheivements under its belt like the Renault FT 17, thd Dassault Rafale which is far superior to the european eurofighter, The Leclerc MBT one of the best in the world, we also have SAFRAN group which is one of a world leading company for military equipment such as optics, optronics, data managment etc.. anw there is ofc KNDS which has the ability to become the worlds major armament related company if France and Germany do not argue over it like kids just as they did over the past.

    • @kloschuessel773
      @kloschuessel773 5 лет назад

      Monfort Nicolas arent the rafale and the eurofighter/typhoon all the same?
      Far superior is a joke thats for sure...
      Far superior is the f22 and maybe the f35, not the damn dassault.
      Every country thinks their tank is the best.
      All in all.
      The french military was regarded as the best pre ww2.
      Let that sink in.
      Their tanks were better armored, had better guns than the german ones. But slower.
      Slower bcs they were build as infantry support.
      That wasnt a short time tactical failure.
      It was a misunderstanding how warfare had developed.
      And the germans exploited that.
      However. It wasnt like this was obvious at the time.
      The french also didnt do a very good job reorganizing and setting up a new defensive.
      They failed to succesfully counter attack and cut the sichel and supply line.
      Thats was the tactical failure.
      Im not an expert. But that appears to me like they had major issues with officers and commanders.
      Issues im not so sure have been fixed since...
      The french love their centralization and in my experience they prefer to paper over their problems or ignore certain failures.
      I like the idea of a joined force with france. Thats what adenauer was after.
      But there would be many issues.
      We cant even get one project done. There are so many fights and discussions with each project.
      Im not sure if its really a good idea to continuously start these expensive joint programs that are being split up and both countries adjust them a little to their specific ideas.
      From a german perspective the french are very very arrogant with little reason.
      „La grande nation“, that joke of an aircraft carrier, ww1 and versaille..., ww2, vietnam, etc.
      And i dont even wanna know what le pen says about germany.
      Farage and his gang also use this historic anti germanic talk to be popular.
      Its one thing imo to criticize the eu or to demand sovereign decision making, but this type of divisive talk is very concerning.
      It weakens us. These right wing movements should have their own vision for a european union.

      Leclerc was the spartan name taken by Capitaine Philippe De Hautecloque during world war 2. does it withstand a hit from an ATGM like Konkurs, Metis or Kornet? How about RPGs like RPG-28, 29 and 32?

    • @SuperGeronimo999
      @SuperGeronimo999 8 лет назад +4

      +BananenRepublikDeutschland It depends where you hit the tank. The Konkurs ATGM only penetrates 600mm RHAe, which is almost nothing against modern tanks. You would need a pp of over 800mm to penetrate a canadian Leopard 1 (Leopard C2) from the front. The Metis-M though, penetrates over 1000mm RHAe, and the Kornet-D even over 1300mm RHAe. This should be enough to kill any tank in the world from the side or behind.
      The RPG-28 penetrates 1000mm RHAe with a tandem warhead, this wouldn't be enough to kill a Leopard 2A5. (1290mm RHAe + reactive armor). RPG-29 penetrates just 750mm+ & RPG-30 just 650mm+.
      The Leclerc is pretty good armored, 870mm RHAe against APFSDS, just a bit less than Challenger 2, M1A2, Leopard 2A6 & T-90A. 1700mm RHAe against HEAT warheads, that is better than M1A2, T-90 & Challenger 2.

So naturally the fitting of an APU was more than required in order to operate the tank with the engine off.

    I can't seem to understand very well but at around 1:34 he says German ??? Powerpack. (putting on subtitles didn't help) But if he is referring to a german powerpack he couldn't be more wrong. While the gun is a licenced 120 Rheinmetal L/44 produced by GIAT and the coaxial an M2, everything else in the tank is french made including the powerpack, in fact its what took the most time to develop.
    Look up V8X 1500 Hyperbar. And the transmission (SESM ESM500) is also french made.

    • @kloschuessel773
      @kloschuessel773 5 лет назад

    • @neage59
      @neage59 5 лет назад +2

      The gun is not a licenced L/44, the CN120-26 is totally different, it's a derivative from the CN120-25, which is also totally different. The L/44 is 44 calibers long and has bore evacuator, the CN120-26 is 52 calibers long has no bore evacuator.
      A German powerpack can be added, the UAE army has MTU 883 Ka 500 engine with a GPU, and a Renk HSWL 295 TM transmission instead of French hyperbar engine and SESM ESM500 transmission.
