I remember when they went to an hour. I was 11 and always watched during summer and holidays and sick days. I wish we had those old days back. My grandma and I watched together and only spoke during commercials.
i used to have dozens of audio recordings of soaps like Edge Of Night, Another World and so many more that went far back as the late 1960s...i threw them out back in the 1980s when i got a vcr...i recorded soaps on tape but then i recorded over them...if only i knew then what i know now!!!
Me too, gdcat777. I had watched off and on during summer vacation from high school, but I graduated in 1975, and this began my full-time viewership of AMC. I stayed with it until around 1996.
My mother watched from day one. So when summer came around I'd watch too. The Mary being shot storyline was similar to the Meredith storyline on OLTL Thank you for uploading
You're welcome. I agree that this was similar to Meredith's death on OLTL. Another similarity in stories: The story of Cliff and Nina with Palmer interfering on AMC started out resembling the OLTL story of Larry, Meredith and Victor Lord. Agnes Nixon did repeat stories sometimes, but they wound up going in different directions.
Hi Thomas. I'm glad you enjoyed this episode. I have another audio cassette episode from February 1976 when Carol Burnett guest starred. I'll have to locate it and get it uploaded to RUclips. I wish I had more, but this is pretty much it.
Hi Robert, Do you by any chance know who the actor was that played the home invader that Killed Mary? his name in the episode, was "Vic". that is what Mary called him. i used to think it was Christopher walken, or actor Robert Morose, Do you know who it was by any chance? or know how i could find out, who that actor was?
From what I understand MargoFlax Martin was quite a villainess. Wish there were some recordings of her. Thanks for this rare glimpse into an iconic show’s glorious past. Much appreciated!
Soaps came out of radio so back in the day you had to be a good enough actor to paint the picture with your voice. That continued in the early years of bringing soaps to tv. What is interesting about listening to this audio is that you can hear how good the actors' voices were back in the day as opposed to nowadays when there seems to be more of a focus on appearance than having good solid actors.
That is a testament to the talent of the actors when the can keep you intrigued with just the audio. Hearing the emotion in their voices as they do their scenes definitely allows you to see their range
This mesmerizes me. The age so far, the noises and the actors' voices letting your mind imagine all the vintage settings, the sound of the rotary phones, the intense soundtrack, the opening advertisement. The charm of it all is priceless. Thank you so much for sharing this gem ❤
There was Mary, Dan, Bitsy, and Katie Kennicott. However, I wish the Kennicott's had been explored more. What some people forget is that Jeff and Mary were Tad's original adopted patents.
Wow!!! Thank you for this! :) In July 1975 I was 1 years old. I have watched AMC since I was little. Since I was in the womb really, cus my mom watched it while she was pregnant with me. :) And the credits with that book, when I was young, I wanted that book! :)
Well they had VCR but they cost over $1000 dollars and the Tapes were only 30 minutes in length. Cool that you can change the pictures. I have no idea how to do that on the Moviemaker so I have just one still photo. But audio is just like the days of radio.
Your sister was a more perceptive soap viewer than I was; I didn't make the connection between the fates of Mary and Meredith until later. I started watching OLTL in 1972, so I've only read about Karen Martin. But now that you mentioned it, those two stories do sound similar: a wealthy father, his daughter with a health problem, a doctor from the other side of the tracks, and a conniving nurse who was after him. Agnes Nixon wasn't timid about recycling her storylines, I guess :)
It's funny that you mention Meredith's similar situation on OLTL. My sister and I watched both soaps and the day that the intruders broke into Mary's house, my sister called me and said, "I think it's going to be another Meredith situation." When Agnes Nixon introduced the Cliff/Nina/Palmer/Sybil story on AMC, I thought it was a retelling of the Larry/Meredith/Victor/Karen story from OLTL in 1968.
The way I got such good audio quality on this episode is that I could pick up the TV station on FM radio. From the radio I used a patch cord to go into the auxillary jack on the cassette recorder, so in essence it was a line recording from the radio. My One Life to Live recording were done by putting the mic next to the TV speaker. You can hear background talking that was going on in my home when that one was recorded.
I was brought up on AMC. My mom was pregnant with me in 1973 when she started watching it. Do you have any more audio tapes, especially when Erica had her abortion or when Tad was found in the park with a broken leg? Thank you again for the audio. My mom always told me about Mary. I told her I was too young to remember this. Nice to know you have a tape of this.
My Mom watched since the beginning. We all sat glued to the TV watching that summer. (Mom and my little brother and sisters) I was 9 years old and I cried like a baby! I am so happy that in real life Jeff and Mary are still together(the actor and actress in real life)
Rob, Monica, would you or your mom know just who played the actor that killed Mary Kinnicott the home invasion? I've been trying to find out for years.
I've only seen moments where Kate was the voice of reason and experience. Hearing her break down and be in shock is heartbreaking. I didn't realize Mary was pregnant when she died. Wow. They were really upping the drama with this.
Ye, she was and i'm still trying to find out who the actor was that shot her in the home invasion. such a shame. Who was that Scuzz?? his character name was VIc.
Thanks for posting this episode. The shocking death of AMC's Mary reminds me of the death of OLTL's Meredith in 1973 because both characters had a history of health problems and then ended up perishing after being held hostage. But what happened to poor Mary was far more horrifying, and then poor Jeff was left alone to be haunted by her ghost. Although AMC tried several times to recast Jeff after Charles Frank left, I don't think they ever found an adequate recast.
Yes!! it does Remind me of when poor Meredith was killed in All my children. That was awful. Larry Wolick's first wife, right? i was only in third grade, but still remember the horror. i'm hoping you can help me. would you happen to know, or remember who the Actor was that played the Schmuck that killed Mary? was it Christopher Walken? or Robert Morose? i can't remember, because i was just graduating from 6th grade, that June. so my memory is hazy. if you know who that actor was, Please do Tell!! i've been trying to find out who he was for years. Mary was calling him, Vic, remember?
Robert Sharp, hi and thanks for uploading. perhaps you can solve a life long Mystery that i've struggled with for years. would you possible happen to know who the actor was that Actually Shot Mary Kenicott? remember him? a Sleazy little man in that episode that had her tied up, and was awful? Hi everyone!! i have a question. does anyone by any chance know the name of the Actor that played the Home invader in the house, who shot Mary? I used to think it was Christopher Walken, or was it Actor Robert Morse? Because i remember he had Gap teeth and kind of Bug Eyed, looking, but i can't remember him clearly, because i was only 13 years old, just graduating from grade school that June. if anybody knows who he was, Do Tell!! i've been trying to find out for years, his name in the Episode was Vic, that's what i remember mary calling him.

Thanks for answering, Could it have possibly been Christopher Walken from back in his early day? i read that he did soaps back in the day, and he lived in NY. You Wanna know why i'm thinking that it was Christopher Walken? because i remembered the face of the Creep who killed Mary. His Hair all askew, his begged out looking eyes and a Gap in his Teeth. they showed his face clearly lots of time. i got a good look at him. also, years later, When i First saw Chris Walken, after he had gotten a bit more Famous, i Yelled, "That's Vic!!! Hugh Franklin was Married to Madeline L' Engle of Wrinkle in Time. Well her granddaughter Lena was hit by a car when she was 9 years old. Well she was in a Coma for three days. She woke up from it and All My Children was on TV and she told the Nurse that her Grandfather was on TV. The nurse was happy she woke up. However, she said the little girl was delusional because she said she saw her grandfather on TV. It was in a Biography about Madeline L' Engle.

I wish I did, but this was before the advent of VHS recorders. I only have the audio.
I'll be posting the rest of the episode shortly.
I started watching AMC on 1983 and watched till the end. Erica Kane is my all time favorite and I would love to see vintage episodes of her.
