Great bit of info on how doing a little work can drastically increase the scrap value.

Final breakdown 25 mins. to do the 26.5lbs of lights and it gave me 11.25lbs 60% wire ($2.55lb) = $28.69. compared to whole ($0.40lb) =$10.60. I did get 15 lbs waste, but great upgrade.

I’ve got a stand up or pedestal fan to work on which I recovered yesterday. Fighting a cold so haven’t been in a recycling mood. It will get done. Tips are appreciated TinMan 👍. ✌️😊

Hello tinman, always injoy your vids. I have a special request for you. You have made vids for scraping armatures. Some people are useing knives to chop stators in half for ez copper removal. Would you be so kind as to try this method on the armatures after you pound out the center shaft as you do and make a vid on it and comment weather this method is applicable on the armatures? Thanks for all your excilent content!!!

I don’t think it would work with a butcher knife because there is still a hard glue casing that would be difficult to do. I can try, but going to be a little while before sharing the video.

I’m sure most yards will let you upgrade them but check with your yard first. My yard will still only pay Christmas light price even if you knock the bulbs off. They can tell what they are and told me they wont pay insulated because the copper wire in them is typically thinner than in anything else.. which is true I suppose.

I just cashed in with the upgrade, no issues at all.

@@TinManScrapper I’m sure it’s like that most places. I tried to upgrade once and it was a bummer. I have a good relationship with them too so I don’t feel like they’re pulling one over on me just for Christmas light😂 but I still just bring them in. Usually once a year around this time. I usually get a lot of them Nov-Feb.

Different rules at different yards. I find the person working the scale house a big factor too. If he wants, he can let a lot slide.@@jayc8180

@@TinManScrapper you’re right. I’ve had different guys. I usually bring in non ferrous in 5 gallon buckets. Sometimes they don’t include them on weight. Sometimes they will. Sometimes I get one that won’t and will next month😂. It’s never the same.

It’s about the same, it just sounds a lot different because the currency is not the same.

The Canadian dollar is currently worth 74 cents US, so he's right, it's probably similar.

moreover, sort the wires and you have a wires for some works, identical by length and gauge diametr. can be resold to electricians over copper #2 price DEFINETELY or even higher.
old christmas lights from pre-80s could be with old bulbs or gold containing LEDs,, part of them will be still good to be sold at 0.02-0.05 cents each
