You know what i so much cherish about the video? The uncemented floor maintained by dried grass. I learnt something here. I don't need to waste money now on cemented floor, in my own farm room, all i just need is to be lacing the dusty ground with saw dust or wood shavings. Thanks for sharing.
What's up with the whiners? I have a pet rabbit but don't see any issue with this. This man has developed a great system to live off the land and raise animals for various uses including as meat. And from what I have seen he isn't cruel to any of the animals. Respect the land, the animals, eat well and enjoy the days you've got. The rabbits are treated to a healthy and clean life, and in turn the rabbits reward him with their tender meat.
IF you feel that way, go live in China! and while your at it ask for the dog and cat menu special! Not a hater, it's just not necessary in the 21st century. News flash, eating rabbits by itself will kill you..If you are capable of reading, Check out the AMA journals on proteins.
You're right that eating rabbit by itself will kill you (rabbit starvation) but that only occurs if you only eat rabbit and nothing else, and that's simply due to how lean rabbit meat is (practically zero fat).
Look, if you're a vegan, or a vegetarian, then more power to you, but if you eat meat, you're basically raising, and butchering animals by proxy. Just because someone else does it, doesn't absolve you of any "guilt". If someone has the property, etc. to do it ethically, why accuse them of barbarism, or lacking an education?
If you do your homework, you'll find that rabbit meat is lower in fat and calories than chicken and turkey. If you have heart issues, it's a good meat for you. As for rabbit manure, it's one of the few animal wastes that can be used without having to compost it. Again, do your homework and if you can find it, add it to your garden plot. You'll be amazed at the difference it will make in your soil condition. I used to clean out my rabbit pens (I raised show rabbits), dump it on the garden spot in the fall and let it sit on top until I tilled it in the spring.
JoeandZachSurvival i like when someone watches your video, of an obvious on going set up, and they feel they have to educate you ! lol did you know rabbit meat is good for you !! :) lol damn skippy!
No need to be snippy and rude. I'm sure not EVERYONE who watches the video is a rabbit 'expert', and I simply brought up points the narrator did not. I certainly didn't expect ugly comments about it.
Thanks for the video i like to watch all kind of videos and try to learn and get new ideas from everyone, it helps a lot. and your video give me another idea to raise bunnies.
I have pet rabbits, yet still respect people who raise their own food. Plant or otherwise. I mean - I love animals!!! But they sure are tasty off the grill or from a crock pot. When I was a little girl my dad would occasionally have me pick out a chicken, whichever was the cutest is what was for dinner that night. I appreciate and honor animals they help sustain our lives and enrich them with their beauty. Good job sir!
Thank you for the nice comment. Some people get so worked up when someone is raising there own food yet they do not think twice about buying the same product in the store nor do they realise (or they choose not to think about) the fact that to sustain as many people as we have on this planet with the meat they eat that the growing and butchering conditions are like an assembly line. The one thats #10 in line watches the other 9 in front of it die before its his or her turn. This video gets so many comments on both ends of the spectrum, good and bad and it really suprises me that it does. This video shows happy rabbits jumping around yet I have another video where we actually kill and butcher the rabbits and yes that one has haters but this video stays higher in the "watch" catagory and gets many more comments. Your video inadvertently answered a question I have been pondering. Should I cage my meat rabbits or let them free range. I didn't realise letting them free range would lead to tougher meat. That explains why I don't like wild rabbit as much as farmed. Thant you for your video. Don't let the fluffy bunny brigade get you down. Keep up the good work
awesome! this is one of my plans for next spring. I raise rabbits as well, I will make a raised bed, plant ediable crops dandelions, clover etc. then wire around and wire top.

The rewards you get will be worth it in the end. Someone asked a question on this rabbit forum I'm subscribed to about if you're making a profit off raising the rabbits. Quite a few people including myself said that we are in the red, but, still LOVE having the option of raising our own meat. Its worth it
Joe & Zack - thanks for sharing what you are doing. Gotta say I was startled to hear your concern about the rabbits hopping around a little in the tiny pen as potentially making them tough, if they 'were out there too long'. Have you ever tried it, raising rabbits in a ground/drag pen? The time and effort - and money - saved by raising rabbits in ground pens, letting them harvest their own food by eating what they were designed to eat, and simply moving them to a new spot each day, instead of having to clean cages... doesn't that sound worth giving it a try? (Of course it takes awhile for rabbits to adjust to a new diet. Depending on the forage available, some hay may still be needed.) Look forward to seeing if you guys decide to give it a go. Thanks again for all the interesting videos!

We have five does that run free on a fenced in quarter acre. They have their 35 (5 litters of 7) babies all at once. Scoop up the running babies and put them in a rabbit tractor. You can be overwhelmed with rabbits easily.
Most people don't realize the amount of work that goes into living a self sustaining lifestyle. You've done and amazing job this summer. Keep,up the vids please
Thank you so much for sharing... There are a lot of us trying to raise food. Great job.. I am in process of redoing all my rabbit cages etc... maybe I'll do a video when i get done. Thanks again...
I read a great blog that has taught me a lot about raising rabbits. The comment area started with, "If you want to post how it's cruel to raise rabbits for meat, please start your post with: if you're a vegan, how many years you've been a vegan. If you're not a vegan, start with; "I am a hypocrite, and .... "
Great info Joe and Zach. Thanks! Growing up I ate rabbit plenty of times but since I moved to this country, its hard to find them. I am in the process of getting settled here and develop my own little system for a fruit trees, garden, chicken, rabbits, pigs, goats or sheep and ducks. Great set up; keep up teaching the skills that these trolls will wish they had one of these days. Have you seen videos by Scott Rea? He's a great butcher and has great ideas for cooking/carving rabbits and other animals.
if you put a piece of metal roofing under your hutches (mine ended up in a U shape with one end up and the other as low as you can) the idea is to funnel all the droppings to one area. if you put a bucket or wheelbarrow to catch them. bonus is little shoveling needed doing it this way.
Those rabbits didn't know what to do when you put them in the goat pen. It was funny watching them. How heavy are the goats getting? They should taste good eating those corn stalks. Corn silage fed beef are better tasting than grass fed beef.
hi guys :) nice garden! wish I had a barn :) listen...the reason why all the folks comment on the bunnies is it isn't a very good life for them in the cages. Ever consider making them a long but narrow free range run outside in shaded areas around the garden? It can be a barrier on perimeter & still give the bunnies a good life of free ranging. I understand you don't want them to get too much muscle but honestly wouldn't you feel better about giving the animals you consume a happier life? They did absolutely love the pen time you gave them but I know you don't do that every day do you? That would be too much work. I'd create a door for them just like chickens get or at the least a tractor. :) just a thought. Thanks for sharing the video.
Oneda Zinn It's true that the pasture gets filthy fast. They eat it down fast, too. And I find it really hard to keep a digging animal in pasture! Still, I put them out in a pasture for a while whenever I can. They seem happy both in large cages and on grass, but I do like to see them run.
ever think to try some worm beds under your rabbit cages they work pretty good I used to do that for awhile sold 90% of the beds 2x time and made about 300$ + a welder from it. the only Issue I ran into was I couldn't separate the worms from the castings
great video man , I have 5 rabbits , I like how you live and how you do thing around your place , I hope one day I can be doing the same thing raising animals to live
lol thanks man I hope one day I can live in the bush and live a free man not have to go to the grocery store , my mother is going to buy a house soon , I keep telling her to buy a house in the country so we can live off the land and be more free to support our self and our family, your rabbits are very big and look healthy and tasty, How does rabbits taste in a crock pot ? I ate rabbit when I was a young boy , it was good , can wait to try it again , anyways take care I will be watching more of your videos
We get lots of comments about taking the rib cage and putting it into a crock pot, Its pretty good I am sure. you mentioned living of the land, do you watch wranglerstars channel at all, he as well is a homesteader and he has lots of valuable information , if you dont watch his channel you should check it out. Thanks!
I got smart when I was raising rabbits for food, I built a tilted board under the cages which allowed the waste to fall to the front, Given what I've learned since then, I'd have it fall into a gutter system and then wash it off into a big tub and take it to the garden area. Oh, by the way, killing animals for food is what they are on this earth for. :) (Edited in) I use to raise California breed. Found they would give me the most meat for the feed.
Richard Britt true but not ALL animals. Plus not necessarily raising them in small cages ither. Im not judging tho... Il take a plate if ya got extra... :) Just saying... I dont claim to know all the answers when it comes to life and right and wrong. So i dont make statements concerning things im not certain of and speak as tho i am. •••DrJ••• =02/04/18= @: 11:55pm Est.
rabbits over chickens anytime. Meat gain to feed ratio MUCH higher with rabbits, means cheaper to raise for meat. The hides can be used also. Cleaner to raise, less smell, etc. Wish I could buy them in the stores, or meat mkt. No one wants to raise them anymore, it seems.
it because no one hardly eats them anymore that people are not selling them in stores, but ya rabbit is great...people need to be educated on how to properly prepare it and how good it is though again.
I know they are for eatting, but... 'Scruffing with one hand and just leaving them "hanging" is dangerous. Rabbits have very thin skin that can be ripped easily, it separates the muscle from their shoulders, and they could break their back with one kick. It's best to always surpport with two hands while handling.'
I hunt everything and eat everything and have no problem with it but there is a place in my heart that makes it just impossible for me to harm rabbits... don´t know why, they are my fluffy kryptonite :)
touchdown081 I'm guessing my first times doing it will be very hard for me :( But it's cool there are people like you out there so I can grow my business without fearing competition LOL Cheers
You should try having one live in your house with you as a companion animal. They get along fine with most dogs & cats, but are much cheaper & easier to care for than dogs or cats are & just as affectionate & smart
You're right the best time for goats is the fall before the snow flies but after the bugs leave. my dad lets his hang for a couple of days to age the meat and also let any hormones that could taint the meat dissipate.
I'm getting ready to start a rabbitry. I was planning on setting the cages up outside, along the side of a huge shed. After seeing your video, with the cages INSIDE, I was wondering which is better? Don't the rabbits need sunshine? My huge shed has a dirt floor, like yours in your video. It does not have any windows, but it would be easy enough to put some in. I live in Colorado and it get gets pretty cold here in the winter. This winter it went down to 15 below zero for a few nights. I would love to hear your opinion on inside verses outside hutches.
Everything that lives is born.....lives a life then dies someway or another.I believe all living things have souls and are just reincarnated over and over again. As long as the animal is not miss treated or cruelly tortured.I cant find what Canice said on here.....but some people just look at life like.....how can you kill them white little bunnies.....while they are feeding their face with a hamburger.....made from the flesh of a barn yard animal that was raised for that specific purpose.THUMBS UP Joe
Good job Can you explain more about this project? i mean about: eat, clean (daily or monthly or in hours), water, to put the cage in the land is more better or do like you did, health, weather... And sorry about my language
You know what i so much cherish about the video? The uncemented floor maintained by dried grass. I learnt something here. I don't need to waste money now on cemented floor, in my own farm room, all i just need is to be lacing the dusty ground with saw dust or wood shavings. Thanks for sharing.

Moving ,,, eating naturel, they get bigger,❤️
Beautiful Stock you have there. I like the way you have it all set up and make it easy to maintain and use.

get bent.
So many bunnies! I would think it would be hard to raise animals for the slaughter without forming a serious emotional bond.
soxpeewee Its just the opposite with the rabbits. I get so many that you have no clue which is which. They just become hopping dinners. Thank you. Joe
@@JoeandZachSurvival lol!! Love that..."hopping dinners"...hard to know where to pour the gravy lol
You should be growing shiitake mushrooms on that cut-oak behind the pen.
Thanks for your bunny-vid!

Nice one..I've learnt 2 good lessons..feeding corn and keeping hay under the cages to absorb urine and droppings I guess. Thanks
I thought that was awesome that the goats like the corn stalks, the rabbits like the leaves, and their waste makes great fertilizer, great video!

Im glad that you at least cared to keep them clean. They are soo cute thoooo!!
Keep on doing the awesome work and video's!!! Can I visit and have some Rabbit stew? I'll pay!
Beautiful eating ..
awesome garden also,,i use to feed my goats corn also,, they love it.
Watching those rabbits in the cage and hearing the outdoors was really relaxing. It would make for a great live webcam. Rabbit-cam.
wow! you must be so very busy
that is si smart to put hay under the cages!
This feels like you're in a minecraft world.
So nice.
It's good to see you don't mistreat them
I don't think you know what mistreat means.
ImOnlySIeeping What does it mean then

raising your own meat is the best thing you could do to assure they have a great life.
great videos

Oneda Zinn That run will fill up with shit and the babies will get worms. What he is doing is the cleanest healthiest way to raise them.
Oneda Zinn It's true that the pasture gets filthy fast. They eat it down fast, too. And I find it really hard to keep a digging animal in pasture! Still, I put them out in a pasture for a while whenever I can. They seem happy both in large cages and on grass, but I do like to see them run.
I got to admit,, they are way to cute,, I could never eat them,,,they jus seem so sweet,
so you base an animal's worth on how cute it is?
Well done!!! No wastage.
Great video
ENJOYED THE VIDEO!! GOT A LOT OF POINTERS FROM IT!! ONE QUESTION: WHATS THE BEST MEAT RABBIT TO RAISE? THANKS!! :)
I wish I could do this, great video.
Love your rabbit and goat barn. It's what I envision for my property.

Thanks!
***** Once again... Your stupidity knows no bounds...
Do you eat meat? or are you just a vegetarian?

I could seriously sit and watch the rabbits hopping and jumping all day long!
la jaula esta grande y muy bien echa y puedes poner un nido adentro y me gusto porque es extendida y pueden jugar y dibertirse
rabbits over chickens anytime. Meat gain to feed ratio MUCH higher with rabbits, means cheaper to raise for meat. The hides can be used also. Cleaner to raise, less smell, etc. Wish I could buy them in the stores, or meat mkt. No one wants to raise them anymore, it seems.
it because no one hardly eats them anymore that people are not selling them in stores, but ya rabbit is great...people need to be educated on how to properly prepare it and how good it is though again.
nice setup....
Awe they are so cute for pets. Don't eat them. Poor bunnies. Of course I'm sure they are all eaten by now. Since it's now 2020
GREAT JOB BROTHER
Thank you for the lesson
Thank you Harley Man.
very good
good idea
Poverini finiscono in padella!!!😂😂😂
Good job
Can you explain more about this project?
i mean about: eat, clean (daily or monthly or in hours), water, to put the cage in the land is more better or do like you did, health, weather...
