Paragon still shows that brake reservoir as being available. It seems like it was pretty easy to get just a few years ago. PMB does a pretty nice job at restoring brake calipers, but they aren't cheap.
Ah thanks! It does look like they have them so I'll be sure to try an purchase one in the future! That said, as for the brakes on this car, I was just doing a quick job to get them working again and make them look nice. On the next car I'm building I'll be sending them off to be plated and look like new. Probably will be under $200 for all four... so unless someone can beat that with shipping then I'll give it a go!
What about refinishing the bores properly? I've read that the bores in these, and most other brake calipers are not just honed, but 'burnished' to provide a better seal. I've heard mechanics say the rule of thumb for brake hydraulics is that doing yourself will last half as long as a having it done professionally, and that will last half as long as a new part.
@@tempest411 I've never really heard anything about burnishing the cylinders. That said, I was just reading PMB's website and it looks like they used to hone the cylinders now they just leave the cylinder alone after plating, which is something that I considered beforehand. So its kinda nice to see that it should work out fine! Thanks!
Thanks! In the next video I'll be replacing some of the other items in the engine bay to clean it up a little more without going to wild since everything is built to a price. This car was originally just needing a head gasket change and respray, but since the cylinder was scored I had to repair that so the engine got overhauled. However, the budget with this car didn't really allow me to go too crazy. That said, I have other cars that I'm currently building that have a much larger budget however not everyone is willing to spend over $50k on these cars so some cars will never be as nice as others...
To pull the engine then break it down to be soda blasted is about $1300. Then to replate all the parts is around $250. To replace the gaskets, rings, and all the other parts is around $1200. So in all, just in the engine bay you can easily spend about around $1700-2000. A shop would probably charge about $5,000-6000 for the same amount of work. I hope that helps...
I take the fuel rails to a shop that specializes in cleaning them up. They are careful to plug everything up, then they are plated. Afterwards I just flush them out to make sure they are clean. When it comes to the damper and fuel pressure regulator, those are brand new. Too many times the old ones fail after rebuilds so we don't like having to go back and replace them so we just do it outright to begin with. As for the accessory pulleys, they are painted from the factory and not galvanized. We plate them so they will have better protection, and will sometimes paint them satin black depending on what the owner wants. I hope that helps!
im restoring 951 86 do you have name shop i will like to ship my fuel rail cooland pipe turbo shields trotle body and hose clams to pe zinc plated ... when you have chance make video or rebuilding front shocks with koni inserts .you can not get new front shocks for 944 only cartiges koni there is not videos in web will be nice a good suspension video
Yes, the company that I send all my parts to be plated at: www.electroplate.biz/index.html That said, all the parts you send them must be blasted to remove any old galvanizing first. So be sure to have that done or they'll send them back. As for the koni's, there are a few tutorials around on the net on how to install them but most of the people that I talk to seem to prefer Bilstein so its unlikely I'll ever have the chance to do a video since they are hardly ever installed around here. So if you haven't bought your strut inserts yet then go with those. They won't require any modification and will you be disappointed. I hope that helps! Here's a link to buy them for your car. www.autohausaz.com/pn/12635692-P30104?Porsche&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIl4yJiYza6AIVk4nICh2_swyVEAQYAyABEgJimfD_BwE
Im trying to get a 86' 944 running but im having problems diagnosing it. I have changed the sparkplugs, speed/reference sensors with cables, fuel relay, battery terminals, and battery. I've also checked the injectors and they seem ok. the only progress is that now there is a new noise: the cruise control ticks as soon as the car is placed in the on position. I need help , please
Hi, you mentioned replacing the DME (fuel) relay and sensors. So the next thing to check is if the tach is bouncing when you turn the engine over. If its not, try swapping the sensors around just in case they got mixed up. Then if you still don't see them bouncing you'll need to check the power at the DME and the continuity of the wiring from the sensors to there. The harness is notorious for breaking at the sensor plugs and I just repaired a turbo yesterday with this issue. That said, if the tach is bouncing then try having someone start the car while you go around to the rear passenger wheel and listen for the fuel pump to kick on. It will only run while the engine is turning, so make sure they hold the key. If you don't hear anything then your fuel pump as failed. That should cover everything.... I hope that helps!
As for the cruise control clicking, try pulling the plugs off the computer located over the hood release and spray contact cleaner on the plugs. Sometimes when they get dirty or are not plugged in tightly it can cause the servo to click. If that doesn't solve the issue, you can just unplug the computer or the servo under the hood until the computer can be replaced.
Power comes from the DME relay also known as the fuel pump relay. I would check that you have power there. Then try a jumper if all checks out. Clark’s garage has a write up on what terminals to jump
Thanks, I usually leave out stuff I've shown before or if I'll be making a dedicated video on it. Takes up too much time and a lot of people just want their cars back...
Hey Ed i had a leak on the top of the injector on an 84, i replaced both top and bottom o rings, but in the process of taking out the fuel rail the main bolts the hold it down (bolts near the intake) broke so now the leak i had in the first place is gone but now the leak moved to another injector but now its the bottom seal leaking, can that be because of the fuel rail bolt that broke causing the rail to be uneven? Once again Ed great video as always.
Hi, any time you remove the rail its best to replace all the injector seals and the FPR seal. At this age they're all prone to failure and can easily tear when removing/installing. New seals won't tear. That said, if the fuel rail broke then its likely the O-rings weren't well lubricated. Be sure to spray them with WD-40 since it will lube them extremely well without damaging them. However, if the fuel rail is broken then you're better off replacing it. Contact Elliott egrafton944@hotmail.com and tell him you need one! Don't want to see your car catch on fire! I hope that helps!
@@edredas thanks Ed!! I will get a fresh set of O-rings and start from there. If it still leaks new fuel rail it is. I've also notice that the idle would suddenly drop then pick back up. Hard to say what the issue could be, but I would perhaps start by checking the power at the DME relay at terminal 86 which comes from the ignition switch. If you aren't getting power there then the coil won't have 12 volts, which could suggest the wiring or the ignition switch itself. I hope that helps!
