    Keith was no saint. He was human. When I read some of these comments about Keith, I can't help wonder how "perfect" some of the individuals are that post those negative comments and rude remarks. What made him great was not his personal problems or how he passed but how many people he touched with his immense talent. He is still reaching people today long after his untimely death. Keith gave more to this world than he ever took and left it better than he found it. God bless Keith Whitley.

    His eyes show a deep depression and pain. Breaks my heart to see how he was hurting. Lived with someone who suffered like this. There’s nothing anyone can do to change it if they don’t get professional help and give over their life to Jesus Christ. He forgives and can heal our hurts and our sins and make us a “new” person. Oh how I wish he had lived. I’m so angry Ralph Stanley was giving him alcohol before his shows and at such a young age. Alcoholism ran in Keith’s family and he should have never started drinking. It runs in my family and my sons and grandchildren have all heeded the warning. Keith’s family was too trusting of Ralph Stanley and the older band members they entrusted with their precious son.

      I was also in a relationship with someone for seven years, I saw him slowly Slippy further into his alcoholism, I left, I couldn't survive in that environment...it's been about 4 years and we talk on accasion, but I don't see any changes in him.. I'll always want to be his friend❤

    I listen to Keith over and over. Nobody sings with more passion. It bleeds from his voice. Keith Whitley's voice got me listening to country music after growing up with classical music and 70's rock. Country is not the same since Keith left us. It never will be the same.

    Keith wrote this song with 2 other individuals. It clearly makes reference to his first wife. It also shows his brilliance as a songwriter and not just a singer.....one of the greatest country singers of all time, and arguably, the greatest voice in country music ever. God bless you and RIP, Keith Whitley.

Keith has always been one of my favorite country voices.... We have all of Keiths albums and 2 nights ago I went to youtube and played some of his music.

    This reminds me of what country music use to be. When the stars were attractive, dressed well like stars, talented, and had vocals! What in the hell happened ! Today they dress like they got off work off of a construction site with their ear rings and tatoos. And they sound no better than any person singing in any bar or lounge. Cheap just Cheap!

      lewhite99 I totally agree. Since around 2000 I can rarely turn the radio on and tell who it is that’s singing. Most of them sound so much alike. And where are the songs that used to grab your attention? The songs today are mostly garbage, throw away songs. I don’t think I’ve heard a song that is bound to be a classic in years. So sad.

    agree with you totally, some of these record companies wouldn't know good music if they heard it too many only are concerned with the "Today's country music" even then it was becoming like that. I can't understand why they just don't play the damn songs and not worry about whether its too country or not WHO CARES!!!!!!

  • @drfever99
    @drfever99 15 лет назад +4

    I think it boils down to one thing. Self-confidence. He also did not deal with the demons of his past, whatever they may have been. It is a real shame that such a talented man could let his inner demons overcome him, and we are left to wonder what might have been.

    Joe Galante is an outstanding record man, and did great things for country music, no question. And I admit that I formed my negative views about RCA quite young, when I noticed how great the stuff was that Jimmy Bowen and Tony Brown were doing on MCA, even with some the artists that RCA was dumping.
    Can you imagine what Keith would have sounded like with a Tony Brown production? Alas, we will never know.
    Thanks for helping keep Keith's music out there.

    That's a good point you bring up, the fact that he had things in his past that he couldn't get over, namely the loss of his brother Randy. There may have been other things that dogged him, but he could never confront them, let alone let someone else help him overcome them. Things that he took to the grave.

    WOW! Watching all these videos really makes me miss Keith & wish he were around longer. I remember my mom crying when she heard on the radio that he had died. I was a sophomore in high school. Even though I don't remember crying at the time, listening to him now sure makes me want to. What a great talent & a genuine small town hero that didn't let the fame go to his head. Does anyone know if he was a Christian? I hope that's not a rude question if his family is posting.

    I wouldn't call what he did "partying." When you refuse to drink in front of others (and even turn down a beer) but get behind closed doors by yourself and drink yourself silly, "partying" is about the last word I'd use for it. Alcoholism is ultimately a chemical thing, like depression, and that's why people with seemingly every reason to be happy still face problems with them.

    I tend to agree to a point about RCA Nashville in the '80s. They had Alabama, Milsap, and others who were doing the contemporary country. But Keith had people in his corner like Joe Galante, who I know for a fact did nothing but good for his career. His record producers all had their plusses & minuses about them. Blake & Norro was all about slick productions, and Garth was a minimalist. Garth believed that the most important instrument on a Keith Whitley record was Keith Whitley's voice.

    Thank you so much for your intelligent and insightful comment. I wholeheartedly agree with everything you said. It seems to me that there are those who drink so much and so often that the only thing that cures them of the sickness they feel when they go through their DT period is more alcohol. It's why people take methadone when they're hooked on heroin.

  • @MAMsMom97
    @MAMsMom97  15 лет назад +4

    You must not be old enough to remember how guys wore their hair in the '80s. Nevertheless, it all comes down to the song and the voice, mainly the voice... and that's what Keith was. It wasn't the hair.

    Absolutely, Tony Brown is CMHOF-bound, purely for his legendary production work, and Jimmy Bowen is great, too. It's true, MCA had a great roster of artists in the '80s such as Hank, Jr., Vince, George Strait, Oak Ridge Boys, Conway Twitty, Patty, Reba... on and on and on.
    To think of Keith with Tony Brown in front of the glass... I never thought of it, but now that you have... Wow!
    Thank you for the thought-provoking conversation, and for stopping by!!!

    I know you're not the only one to ask that question. That's what made it all that much more painful, the fact that he was young with a beautiful wife and 2 gorgeous kids. My dad & I were talking about it last night, about the issues that he had that he wasn't able to resolve. One big one was the loss of his brother Randy. My dad has a theory that I hated to hear but I feel it's not impossible. Due to the sensitive nature, and to some folks' weak constitutions, I don't want to get into it here.

      It is hard to imagine what he was feeling & facing here just before his death, but the same sparkle can't be seen like it could be seen in other performance videos from 1988 & before. Something was definitely weighing heavy.
      Thanks for posting so many KW videos. I was a very young teen when he passed but I have been a fan since 1989. It is a blessing to be able to watch these live videos.

    This performance in itself shows that he was definitely right there in his prime and probably found where he truly wanted to be as a singer. It's crazy how you can put so much sad emotion in a song and finish it with a smile. Reckon that was Keith.

    @MAMsMom97 Can you elaborate on this statement? I am very interested in Keith's journey through life and music. We are all influenced by the people we surround ourselves with and Keith was no exception. Not much is known, or written/spoken about the people close to Keith, other than Lorrie. Has anyone written a biography? Thanks

    I wonder, when he became successful, did he ever go back to Kathi and do something nice for her, since she was there when they had no money and as one of his colleagues said: He and his wife would invite them over for spaghetti, because they were starving to death. 2:58

    A broken heart is such a horrible thing to happen to a person, it is the most difficult feeling to overcome, never seeing the end of the rainbow, being under that dark cloud sometimes is so overwhelming that the death wish comes upon you. RIP, he died a broken man but I am sure God showed him forgiveness because Jesus said *** Forgive them for they know not what they are doing ***, I am not justifying his death, simply making a statement on how I see things. It is his will and we all have our WILL to deal with, do not be judgemental, God is forgiveness too.

    That's Joey Schmidt, the pride of Napoleon, North Dakota. Keith has had some great backing musicians, some better than others, in terms of musicianship. But some with questionable character, unfortunately.

    After reading the description below the video I can see how if this was going to be Keith’s next single and it was only a couple months before he died, the pain it must have caused him to have to keep singing it. He and Lorrie were having troubles at that time. I can’t say for sure but perhaps he realized his mistake to leave Kathy because of his infatuation with Lorrie, and Kathy maybe let him go as he said, but because of Lorrie’s pregnancy? Kathy was probably a good Woman and wanted his child to have a legit Father. This is all speculation on my part on either of their feelings so don’t attack me, but this breaks my heart to hear him sing with such touching feelings towards Kathy.
