Legitimate question: did something get released last year that suddenly made "wander around and chat with weirdos" a popular genre again? I mean, I'm not complaining, but there've been, what, five or six of them so far? I think Nowhere, MI is the best of them so far. I do think that it's a shame that Northstar Courier absolutely tore itself to pieces at the end - it started off as a little crass but kinda charming, and then... the ending happened.
I do not know if this is going to be an incredibly (edibly) controversial opinion or not, but I think that the majority of Nowhere, MI, or at least the "wander around and chat with weirdos" part, is what is called an "Egglike." It's been a thing for a while, but it's always been super niche. I'm glad that this weird genre is taking off, at least.
@@hyper-thermal I'll be honest, I've been fond of the genre for a while (they used to be SUPER big in the RPG Maker scene, where we called them "surreal horror" games - yes, even if they weren't explicitly horror games), and I literally only heard about that term for them in the comments of an earlier video on this series. I'm given to believe that it's a vsauce thing? I'm more curious about why there are so many of them on this demo disk. Is it because they just happened to get a bunch of devs who wanted to make that kind of game this time around?
Nowhere,MI has WAY too much headbob. Like, enough that It makes it hard to watch at certain times. That aside, this is what an Egglike aughta be. Surrealities played relatively strait, slight platforming, a connecting thread and objective in mind. Good Egglikes have typically had aspects like this, namely getting 'keys' and various items to open doors and clear blockages, but going the extra Metroid mile to have it be movement mechanics instead is a very nice touch. If they made an option to turn off the motion-sickness in the full game, it'd be ideal. You think it's pronounced 'Wizard-o' like SGF does it? I thought it'd be more like 'wiz-AR-doe', personally.
Glad to see SGF is also a folllower of the esteemed 'Stay in the middle and shoot' strategy. Not much to say about Arcade Woah, as you said it's more of a minigame than anything. Perfect for a secret demo. And Asteroids is always fun.
The return of Succ Ham....Glorious. It looks like the gift that Hackergirl gave you was Peeb. How did Peeb become the next mascot of these demo disks? I wasn't too enthused by Peeb last year, personally. Anyway, I enjoy the mudainity of Northstar Courrier. The Cryptid Hunting juxtaposed with 'sleepy small town' is nice. Hopefully in the full game they'll have more NPCs, a bit more of a place to explore. It feels like this is what The Good Life was trying to go for, to a degree. Allegedly, the Baba Yaga fight isn't canon which. Uh. Is an interesting choice for a demo? I don't know why they felt the need to give the demo a climactic battle? It kinda. Was a rapid tone shift. To say the least.
I'm vibing to the lo-fi tunes in Anywhere MI. LOVE IT.
That was a really accurate depiction of Baba Yaga, I gotta say.

i think the dev said everything after the mall sequence in Northstar Courier wasn't canon, it wasn't going to be part of the game

@@Thrownblock If that's true... I respect that ending a LOT more. "Instead of giving you spoilers for the game... RANDOM MONKEY-CHEESE GO".
@@lawsgames I'm mostly asking because it feels like there's WAY more of them this year than there were in the 2021 or 2020 demo discs.

thats getting a thumbs up
Nowhere, MI is really good. Flame Ghost is my new favorite character, and must be protected.

Nowhere MI really needed a motion sickness warning 🤢
We're really doing Scuba Steve references in 2022 huh
Theme of this year seems to be "random, lol", and honestly it's wearing really thin.
Having a cohesive story with characters you can take at least somewhat seriously is so last year, it's easier to just be quirky.
Taken out of context they're fine, but it's really unfortunate how many of them are xd-ish
My thoughts exactly. It isn't even scary this year round, more goofy. That's fine but then it's not really a horror demo collection.
Lots of references to Peeb's Adventure this year.
Boner.
Not enjoying this years demos as much on average. I am not a fan of the random/wacky stuff.
