  • America's "Old Right"-rooted in 19th century liberalism but birthed in the 1930s to oppose the New Deal-was strongly laissez-faire and non-interventionist. Murray Rothbard wrote the comprehensive story of that movement, it's influences and influence, and its destruction at the hands of Buckleyite Cold Warriorism. Modern conservatism sadly bears little resemblance to the Old Right, and America is worse off for it.
Dr. Patrick Newman and Tho Bishop join the show to dissect the book, which is both a critical history and a fascinating political memoir of Rothbard's own journey to libertarianism.

Crazy, yesterday an old Tom Woods ep. 818 popped up on my YT where he and Malice discussed this book. Great stuff, thanks.

(30:39) "Not only his Ph.D. from Columbia, but also his academic output, _absolutely_ ... qualified him for a tenured-track teaching job, in the economics department, at any _number_ of Ivy League colleges. So this idea that, somehow, Rothbard had to go to Brooklyn Tech, this is a _political_ matter, folks, listeners. This had nothing to do with his intellect or capability, because he was running _circles_ around just about everybody, including the former chair, and head of the Fed later---his nemesis at Columbia University---namely, Arthur Burns."

What happened to the Lew Rockwell channel? He used to post podcasts regularly but not much in the last two years.
There is/was a podcast with Jeff Tucker on the Old Right authors 'lost to history' that need to be remembered.
