it is also lame that the ships with towers and castles dont have extra range units in them. These would have been very useful in boarding actions as they fire down onto the enemy without hitting the melee marines
might be like the barbarian arty and persian melee ships in rome 2 , simply there for naval balance in mp (as if anyone ever plays those) and unrecruitable in campaign
I think it have something to do with balacing the game. Afhter what ive seen the fireships are really strong, and if only the romans and sassanids would have them it would be pretty op
After multiple request, I decided to dive into the naval roster of the game. And I wasn't dissapointed! You can still ask me anything you want about the game. The music in the beginning and end of the video are both Roman battle tracks.
1) Have you come across any issues with boarding? In Rome 2 for instance, a ship assigned to ram would occasionally stop for no reason just before hitting it. 2) How many units can board a enemy ship at one time? 3)What actually happens to a unit that has boarded a enemy ship when their ship is suddenly sunk say by a ramming ship?
I really hope naval battles prove to be more tactical & enjoyable to play. Your video seems to shine a more positive light on it. In Rome 2, It's sad to see all that development time and effort injected into naval battles only to be auto-resolved, such a shame :(
RicheUK 1) I have not played enough to be 100% sure, but it seems like there are far less bugs with boarding, etc. 2) I have not seen a cap yet. You can board the same ship with multiple units and you can even withdraw your units from enemy ships. 3) Not sure, will have to check. Will come back to this later.
Alex Llewellyn Sure, if they had some Germanic units that would be understandable. The Germanic units seem to be in the majority however which makes no sense, nor doe sthe "Alan" units looking like Huns.
LOL since when Sassanid n Ostrogoths got Greek Fire ? I believe theyve naphta but Greek Fire ? Must be kidding. Ostrogoths ?? PFFTT. Very anachronic also but I am satisfied they add Greek Fire in this installation. Anyway great features on Navy units.
😝 Are you a horde and running from the Huns? Well then look for a home no more! You should look to conquer the islands of of Crete, Rohdes, Sisicly, Sardinia, Corsica, Majorca, The island of Great Britain, and/or (if you're in for a good ale or mead) Ireland! Remember if the Huns got you down, head to an Island Town!!!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍 Warning: local tribes/civilians/indigenous peoples Ect. May not react kindly to your presence, and may even be hostile in extreme cases.
Naval battles look pretty epic, still could be improved though, (breaking oars, etc.) Much better than r2's battles though. Attila basically everything I wanted in r2. Can't wait for the conversion mod to make it r2's timeperiod
What do u do when you've started a battle with your infantry army on the sea I'm playing as white Huns and I didn't have a fleet but I've got a a huge fight to win now never done one before!
Naval battles look like they will be a lot of fun! Couple things i noticed though, is that the viking forefather naval rosters really seemed to be lackluster(even the danes, only two more units??) compared to other germanic factions like the saxons and franks. Wish CA put more effort into that. Also, I don't like how pretty much all the factions have the fire ships, I feel like that should be unique to the Eastern Romans, and maybe a couple others on top of them. Overall, still super excited, CA definitely did a better job on unit rosters in Attila.
CWill014 I agree! I already talked about the Viking Forefather problems in my Review of that dlc. i mentioned the same thing, they are lacking ships. Even the Alans can field better ships. Thanks for the comment!
Many people seem to dislike the naval battle of rome 2, but for me, it was the first total war game where i was able to win battles on the sea and learn to not fear water anymore. In empire, i hated to be dependant on Wind for movement. In shogun, ironically, i spammed galleon with the otomo to snipe them with a static line of op ships. In rome 2, finally found that the ramming era of the naval warfare was my thing ^^
How does the barbarians have Greek fire that even the western Roman Empire doesn't?
pretty lame that they add greek fire in every faction despite being a byzantine weapon only
John X Ye, probably due to gameplay reasons.
***** i thought so. In MP would be OP to play as ERE but i would prefer historical accurasy over gameplay reasons
Someone will probably create a realism mod that will make Greek fire ERE exclusive among other things.
it is also lame that the ships with towers and castles dont have extra range units in them. These would have been very useful in boarding actions as they fire down onto the enemy without hitting the melee marines
Evilstatistic19 Greek fire wasn’t invented until the 7th century, their inclusion in the atilla grand campaign is anachronistic.
Why do so many factions have fireships? Sassasids kinda make sense due to the grenades etc... but Franks??!
i bet the AI never use that ship-- bcs to sily, or cant handle it :))
might be like the barbarian arty and persian melee ships in rome 2 , simply there for naval balance in mp (as if anyone ever plays those) and unrecruitable in campaign
elseñor di señor Probably this, yes. 2nd reason: Because fire.

thx the vid. was informative . maybe u can make one battle video from "bridge battle" ? I wanna see the AI on river cross actions.
THX !
RicheUK i believe nr3 was fixed in wrath of sparta so i would assume it is in atilla aswell

I am a bit bemused by the Alans having Germanic units, whats that all about?
DoddyIshamel CA's choice. Wait, am I the only one who smells DLC?
They have Germanic units probably because of their alliance with the Vandals, and eventual integration with them...
Alex Llewellyn

I completely agree that it's laziness, im just coming up with a reason as to why CA might have thought it was ok.
can someone tell me if there is a good mod for ships
Daniel's Gaming I don't think there is one tbh
***** ya their needs to be one the naval units are garbage but the mechanics are good.
Franks with fire ships WTF
Tom Clarke That's how they roll.
I am very disappointed in the viking ship rosters. I feel like they should have a lot more and better ships (especially assault ships).
Reed Noss I agree, only the Danes are somewhat decent.
the amount of times I heard you say "Shits" and "Ramming Shits" is amazing XD
nice channel man. thank you :)

Noverdinho Aotearoa Gameplay reasons I guess. Thanks for watching!
Do the Alan's and Huns even Have boats?
Brian Hall The Alans do, the Huns do not.
Oh ok thanks

SPLegoStudios There is definitely room for improvement. But I like the unit variety.

marauders. muh-rawd-ders
the rest of this was really helpful thanks :)
The Vikings have one of the worst naval rosters
lean chickenwing Yes, strange.
cause real vikings usually used their vessels as transports rather than true warships.

***** Thanks for making these videos for us!
CWill014 Thanks for watching them!
goede video ik hoop een een multy player battle te doen met je (unsullied) heb juist de game gekocht.
lucky pickle Thanks, dat kan zeker.
Who any play naval Attila in MP?
the sassinid ship had a cross on it?
I hope that only the Eastern Romans can use Greek Fire in the campaign because historically no one ever discovered it's secrets.
Alex Georgiadis nope, everyone can. Probably gameplay/balancing reasons.
***** Yeah but don't they need ERE military ports? I am having way too much fun in my ERE campaign for it to be ruined by this.
Which ships are good for assaulting coastal settlements?
ifrit21st I would say a mix of artillery and melee ships should be able to do the job.
Thanks for the video, can't wait to play!
Mohamad Doghman Me neither! oh, wait.
hi
frank hey
