DIY Cosplay Sound Glove

  • TIP: It is not mentioned in the video, however, it is recommended to tin your wire connections with solder. This will make the wire ends a little stronger, and it will be less likely to slip off of the screw terminals. Tinning the wire connections is highly recommended. Placing electrical tape over the screw terminals may also prevent: loose screws from falling out, and tension relief on the wires.

    I did this project as well.
    I am a TK, so I had to put the soundboard in my chest area. My glove wouldn't fit around the soundboard.
    I also mounted the 9 bolt battery in chest area too.
    But it works awesome!

    hey great tutorial thank you so much for the vid. I'm having fun working with the mp3 player- i found the 501st jawa loop and added the sand dune song from the SW soundtrack to it- the voice amp you wear has a usb playback port that you can make use of by loading the loop onto a usb flash drive- so you get the loop playing on repeat while the buttons work at the same time= very fun. My only complaint is the volume on the board can only be controlled if you are using the speaker wire output. The volume can't be altered if you are using the headphone jack which stinks. So, I'm going to have to jimmy a wire i already have or find a speaker wire to headphone jack wire - which i would suggest anyone do. The volume is automatically set to MAX on the board and it sounds a little distorted because of that. It's CRAZY loud LOL! so yeah, speaker wire audio output from the mp3 board is the way to go!

    Great tutorial, you were a huge help! Though I do have one question, is it possible to add multiple sounds to one button? (e.g. Storm Trooper Sound Glove, Button one can have several different voice lines of "yes" Button 2 can have different voice lines of "no", etc.)

    • @HappyTrooperDotCom
      @HappyTrooperDotCom  7 лет назад +2

      Hello King Griff, I don't think it is possible to add multiple sounds to one button. The soundboard can only "see" 4 files, named 001, 002, 003, and 004. Anything other than that and it will ignore them.

    Just seeing this video now as I dive into a similar project, but for a halloween costume. Could you in essence use longer wiring for your trigger buttons and have the board/battery housed in something that attaches to your belt? It would take up less space on your wrist/hand for any kind of costume/gloves worn. Thoughts?

    I'm working on my very first cosplay, a Jawa, and I am planning on doing this glove project. I'm wondering if you can have multiple sound bytes per button; or if there is another type of soundcard, or something else, that can allow for that. Thanks!

    • @HappyTrooperDotCom
      @HappyTrooperDotCom  6 лет назад

      The board in this video does not allow for more than 4 sounds. However, the pre-built board, allows you to "stack" sounds on each button. Using the PM66 software, you can load multiple sounds on each button, and it will cycle through them as you press it. bit.ly/2IlpCTj

    • @HappyTrooperDotCom
      @HappyTrooperDotCom  7 лет назад +3

      I have not tried the micro SD card, I don't have one to test. I would guess that if you have a micro SD card, that will take priority over the onboard flash memory. I am afraid that I cannot give you a firm answer on that. Perhaps you can reach out to electronics123.com and ask, they have great customer service.

      Yes, the SD card sound files will be placed, instead of the on board memory.
      This way, you can multi-purpose your sound board and just swap SD cards for different sounds, instead of having to reprogram every time.

    • @HappyTrooperDotCom
      @HappyTrooperDotCom  7 лет назад +1

      Hello Jeff, if you don't mind swapping sounds, you can get away with one card. Chances are, you will wear 1 costume for one event (a Jawa for example). You can load up the glove with 4 Jawa sounds. The next week, if you do an event as a Tusken, you can load up the sounds for that costume. It just takes a few minutes to connect the glove via USB cable to a PC/Mac to change out the sounds. Its up to you. Thank you for watching :)

    The makers of the software for the premade glove have a driver on their site to make the pm66 program work with Windows 10. You can also use the compatability tools in Windows 10 to make it run, but obviously downloading the updated driver is easier.

    • @Mr25561
      @Mr25561 5 лет назад

      I've had the same issue, but I've come up a few solutions. Solution one: You actually make one of the buttons a "silent noise". If you accidentally hit a button, push that button will immediately mute the glove. Option two is wiring in an on off switch of some sort. I've found a great button to do this with, as it could use screws or glue to secure it in a pinch and has a spring and lock, so I can just press on it, and I'll feel it turn off or on. Additionally, I've been working on a nice 3D printed case, extended wires, and other things. It sits on my upper arm well out of sight.

      Hello, thank you for watching. This appears to be a very simply sound board that is controlled by 4 triggers. I am not aware of a method to re-program its behavior. Once a trigger is pressed, the sound is played. The sound must complete before another button is pressed. So, you cannot keep pressing different buttons to trigger the sounds while a sound is already playing. Holding a button down simply plays the sound until it completes. You would then need to press the button again to generate the sound.

    How sensitive are the buttons? Think they would be pressed under thick latex gloves?

      I am sorry for the late response. It is difficult to explain the sensitivity. It does take some effort to push them down. The button must be pressed down about 2mm to make contact. I'm not sure how they would work with latex gloves. I have Greedo hands in latex, they are kind of tight, I won't be able to wear a sound glove. Will you have some space in your latex gloves to wear the sound glove? If you don't have a lot of clearance in the latex gloves, this may not be a good solution :( Also, the battery and sound board may cause some issues with your latex (tears/tension).

    so you can only play 4 sounds maximum? How does the button know which one to press? Is it based on the file name, like you had 001, 002 etc?

      Hello Jillian, thank you for watching. I have a secret. I don't actually record through my Stormtrooper helmet. I add the dialog later. I use Audacity (free on Mac and Win I think), and I use the settings here: ruclips.net/video/4pXwj9ha5P4/видео.html Give it a try, you too can sound like a Stormtrooper!
