- Welcome to another Dedicated Server guide for Don't Starve Together. DiogoW has just made a standalone app for starting and managing DST dedicated servers and it streamlines the process considerably. So I'll walk you step-by-step through the process of setting up your own dedicated server which is easier than ever!

**Release 1.10:**
- Fixed some mods not being enabled. All mods should work now.

I didn't really explain well how to get to the page with the server tokens. You basically go to accounts.klei.com then navigate Games -> Don't Starve Together -> Game Servers. There should be plenty of tokens on that page to grab but you can always create a new one by adding a new server.
i’ve always wondered why dst never had a dediserver interface like this. Can’t wait to play around with it.

Wow, this has a lot of potential for a lot of our old worlds we want to share with friends. Granted, I have none, but I do have this 3k Lights Out world with a friend.

1. If a server is launched with Vox, do the days progress without players in the server?
2. Is someone I am playing with able to run the server from their pc if I am away and cant leave my pc on?
Every time I want to stop my server it just gets stuck on 'Stopping..." Anyone got any suggestions?

i can`t add mods, i do everything but it working without runing mods, says that mod download error
When I try to install multiple mods there are still some mods that dont work for me, like Campfire Respawn & Show Me (Origin) whereas mods like Quick Pick work just fine. How do i fix this?

my server showed up on the game search page when i viewed it but there doesnt seem to be a dedicated server icon on it at all. does that mean im doing something wrong?
Other users have reported this too. If you have a pastebin acct might be a good idea to report the bug.

Do you think the method you show in your guide applies here for added world shards?
Try making a third shard folder and see if the launcher recognizes it?

@JazzysGames it made some errors adding a shards folder. And to be honest my virus detection app considered the vox launcher as a malware :S. Back to the old ways it is :P
Hey Jazzy! Your tutorial was really clear and I successfully launched my dedicated server and me and my friends can already join the LAN server smoothly. However, the gameplay was not that smooth as the clients got a quite high lag although me as the host doesn't have that. Do you have any idea what causes the ? Thanks in advance!
Hey man great video very nice instructions, i run in one issue the dedicate server is working correctly but it doesn't have the dedicated icon neither on me or in other users!
This appears to be a known bug. Diogo said he is aware of it but doesn’t have time to fix it at the moment.

For a local save just enable the mod in the game then add the line to dedicated_server_mods_setup.lua
Can I turn a world that once had the DST Alone Mod into a dedicated server? Do I have to add the mod id to the folder or not? Can I even play with it ?
Here’s what I read on the mod page:
1) this mod can only be activated on single player world (max player must be 1)
2) don't run this on dedicated server, it will crash :v
There seems to be a way to restore multiplayer with the mod, so maybe do that if you’re gonna turn the world into a dedi.

The tool called Pyinstaller, which is used to bundle the app into an executable, is also used by people who actually make malicious software. Windows Defender recognizes some similar patterns in the executable and includes Vox Launcher as a threat.
Usually creating a new version solves this temporarily, but there's not much to be done in the long term other than rebuilding the whole app in another programming language, which I don't have the time or desire to do at the moment. The only thing you could do is to add an exclusion to Windows Defender.

Hello, I did this and it worked, but the server didn't show itself to be a dedicated server, but it did run without anyone being on the server. How do I fix this?
I believe it’s a bug with the current build.
amazing tutorial but it says failed to start up server i don't know if things are blocked or something im trying to fix it but it does not seem to be working
I’ve heard some users get the error message that ports are already in use; sounds like a bug. You could try changing the port numbers in server.ini; as long as they’re all different they shouldn’t create an error.
What does a pc requires to run a server properly with low lag?
It mostly depends on your internet connection and the connection of other players, but as long as you’ve got a few GB of RAM to spare it should run smoothly enough on a dedicated PC.

when i start servers it tells me that ports Masters and caves are already being usen by another program. waht should i do
I’ve been getting similar issues as of the latest update. Ended up reinstalling 1.0.0 which still works fine for me.

Should be public by default unless you have “offline_cluster = true” in your cluster.ini
to my knowledge you need to still open the server as the host but is there another way to open the server without me? since my friend want to play sometimes when im not at home
The beauty of a dedicated server is that you don’t need the game running to host a server. As long as Vox is running on your host computer, other players should be able to join!
Can someone explain why the reasons for a dedicated server instead of a normal one ?
I explain it in my main dedi guide but basically it’s good for allowing other players to play when you’re not. It also frees up computer resources so you can run your server on one computer and play on another.

To configure mod settings, is it still in game?
Yeah you can configure mod settings and start the game, it should save the settings to modoverrides.lua and apply the next time you launch it with Vox. You can also start an other world with the mod settings you want and copy/paste the modoverrides.lua file over to your dedi server.

Im not sure why I was able to install this from my laptop before without any issues, now when I try it on my MiniPC it keeps on saying virus detected and it wont download the file, Im hesitant to turn off my AV because of this error, any workaround?

JazzysGames, how do other people join?
if you enabled only local, then you will need a software like radmin to create a network and add other people in it. if it is online, then all you need to do is search on the browse tab

I’ve been having the same issue on 1.1.0 . Diogo said he wasn’t able to reproduce the bug but he’s definitely aware of it.

why won't it launch for me when i add caves? i add a mod its fine without caves but when i add caves it breaks and doesnt launch

Prolly some syntax issue with your server.ini in caves folder. You can try sharing the server log and/or game files on the Dedi server channel of the Klei forums, maybe someone will know.
How do you add a password before joining? People keep randomly joining me and my friends' server and we dont know how to stop it, please help!
On a dedicated server? Add the following line to cluster.ini:
cluster_password = amazingestpasswordever

does this launcher allow servers that have extra shards? specifically for something like the island adventure mod?
I’ve heard that it’s possible but some versions of the launcher may have had issues resolving the ports. Check the comments below; I’m almost certain the question has been asked before.

By default servers pause when empty. You can change this in cluster.ini

You’re going to want to select a single host computer for your dedicated server; that way you won’t have to share the entire server with other computers. If your friend is going to be the main host it’s better for them to set up the server.
how to i increase the player count to mreo than 6 players?
You can change the number in the game then run it via Vox. If it’s already a dedicated server try adding the following line to cluster.ini:
max_players = 20
(or however many you want)

In cluster.ini just add the following line:
cluster_password = {your password}

If it runs on your computer, yes.
Is it possible to run a multi shards server with this launcher ? When I try, I got an error telling me the ports of my 3 shards are already being used by another program but this is happening whatever the ports i'm using.

I had a user who was able to do it. Let me get a hold of them and see what they say.
it is definitely possible. i used an already working Island Adventure 4 shard setup
i got the same error first. i think when your server doesn't start up successfully for the first try (for whatever reason) it kinda reserves the ports and you won't be able to start the server with the same ports after that. i might be wrong tho
@@davidsebok6283 but i tried with like 20 different ports and i get the same error everytime? Could it be related to something else than Vox and DST ?

Google Chrome said this is a virus and my pc said it's a virus too
Thankfully open source programs rarely have viruses. This program has source code shown on the page, meaning it should be possible to download this code and launch it just the same as the app.

@@Pock4855 Technically all programs that have the ability to write or edit files are considered viruses. My laptop used to consider steam games viruses when file safety was on. I had to white list all programs one by one.

Anyone know how to give admin?
On a dedicated server? Yeah, you want to add the user’s Klei ID to adminlist.txt for the dedicated server. You can find a user’s ID in the server logs or by hovering over their name in the in-game scoreboard.
