The literal meaning of "Menkata Cottelee" is hard noodle, thick soup, specifically a word used in a ramen chain called Jiro. They sung in their previous song "maximum the hormone" about how much they love that junky ramen and they would eat it day and night without giving a shit about their health. They were saying that their fat and greasy appearance won't matter as long as they deliver quality music and continue to rock people. That's why some fans complained when Ryo changed his premise and lost his weight (to be fair, nobody really knew he had serious health issues at the time). This song is an answer song to them, saying "fxxk you I'm gonna live longer than you". Towards the end he redefines the word Menkata Cottelee, saying that he will live a cottelee(=thick) life, instead of just having a cottelee(=heavy, oily, greasy) appearance. That's why it's called maximum the hormone II and the more direct translation of the Japanese subtitle is "Let's talk about the new meaning of Menkata Cottelee". I got goosebumps when I first saw the lyrics. It was SO cool.

I love Ryo-kun so much, he's the one who behind this genre's changes, but still always perfect. I love how he thinks for their songs, the best Japanese metal guitarist-composer-vocalist ever.😍
So, just browsed through the comments, and I didn't find anything that actually explained this song or video. The beginning is playing older Maximum The Hormone songs. Showing the guitarist/singer as a heavy man. In one video it started with him vomiting on the TV, which you saw in this. The point of the video, which focused on Ryo(singer) eating at every chance, was to show that he lost a "ton" of weight. Basically, doctors told him if you continue as you are, you'll die. So, he decided to eat better and lose weight, so that he could live and continue doing what he's doing. This song is about the transition and how food is terrible for you(at least tasty food), but living is more important. It's not about ramen.
More importantly, the lyrics highlight the pain, discomfort and fear felt in realizing the poor nature of his health. The section that Nao sings is from the perspective of fans that criticized this change, seeming to prefer fat Ryo-kun. Wrapping it up is Ryo citing obesity health statistics in Japan. It's equal parts "here's a painful journey I endured" and "don't like it? So what?" All wrapped up in the usual, failing to disappoint MTH fashion.
Alley Viper thank you for that. I had only seen their old stuff and never even knew he lost that much weight. I though they changed him and that made me super sad. Appreciate the explanation 😊
@@pratosaurusrex1128 Its a very Japanese mindset. Japanese people feel intense ownership of pop-culture, especially musicians. They believe that people should give themselves whole heartedly to their fans, even over their health and well-being. Its super fucked up.
This has to do with a lot of the Fanbase identifying and idolizing the lead singer Ryo who has had weight issues this was like a come back for him after the doctors told him that if he didn't lose weight he was pretty much gonna die
In heavy side of this song is the message from main vocalist who is totally tired of being unhealthy (getting lots of fatty food), and he managed to loose his weight at this moment. And he is shouting "I don't want to go back to unhealthy life any more" throughout this song. On the other hand, female vocalist sings " I don't give a shit, go crazy my brother! we don't want any healthy guy in our band". And finally he gave up and eat superfatty ramen at last.
@@dicodec Just a small correction. The guitarist was told by his doctor to basically diet or die in the next few years, but a big contingent of fans were upset and complaining that he wasn't this big cuddly bear anymore. This song is basically a giant "fuck off" to that part of their fandom, with the drummer mockingly singing the fan's perspective. I think the ending with the food is more of an "obviously I'm still eating and enjoying myself".
Thanks for checking this one out! Yeah, this is the ultimate weight loss song.🤣It's Ryo being pissed that people liked the "fat Ryo" better. In the beginning, Nao, the drummer (and Ryo's sister) is basically reminiscing over "fat Ryo." Sarcastically of course
Hey. the song is about how many people criticized Ryo for losing weight and Ryo used to be better fat. in the song they tell you that you need to monitor your health and prevent obesity

Maximum the hormone = the sensation of the maximum amount of your hormones coming to the boil! :) I've loved them since I heard their songs from Air Master and Deathnote. Rolling 1000toon , tsume tsume tsume , and Bikini Sports Ponchin are amazing songs

Loving your reactions! Two recommendations for you: Yoshu Fukushu by Maximum the Hormone for more crazy awesome metal goodness. Next, check out Band-Maid, an all girl rock band where the members dress up like maids and play kick ass hard rock. Nao-chan, the drummer for MTH, is the favorite drummer of Akane (Band-Maid’s drummer) and the reason she decided to try to drum harder and louder. And fwiw, when Jimmy Page (yes, THAT Jimmy Page) saw Band-Maid live, he went backstage to meet Akane. She, and honestly the rest of the band, are THAT good. Check out Domination (live), Blooming (music video), or Dice (Music video) as great starting points. The Japanese music scene is second only to the american one in size. There’s a lot of great music coming out of Japan in all genres, and their rock and metal scene is dope AF
My interpretation of the short play in the beginning is that the girl is listening to 'tame' Maximum the Hormone MV, feeling disappointed, and then recalls, "After all, Ryo (vo/guitar) was at his best when he threw up in the MV..." The chat line says, "I liked Ryo more when he was fat."
If I recall Ryo had to lose weight for health reasons and some fans were unhappy. So in classic MTH fashion they responded to their fans with a song. I'm not into their music, but I absolutely love this band and their interactions with their fans and their antics. Not to mention their creativity both musically and video composition.
Maybe this was already explained but... In this song, the guitarrist vents his anger at his overweight fans, who were "canceling" him for being too skinny now, not realizing that he almost died from gout and lost weight to survive, and that they only want him fat so they can get an excuse for having as shitty eating habbits as he did, and they all should be ashamed, etc, etc. Pretty cool wake-up call of a song.
+1 for Band Maid, A Japanese hard rock (not metal) band - Domination live 2/14/2020 is a good place to start, or if you are into power metal, Lovebites is pretty intense. Think Dragonforce in prom dresses. Japanese music is just killing right now.

I recommend checking Hail To The Fire, Apollo and Omega, but there are many more great songs. This band never disappoints :3
Maximum the Ryo lost loads of weight due to health problems and allot of fans said they didn't like how the new slimmer Ryo looked.... This song is his reaction
Hope you try some Band-Maid next. Female Japanese rock band that rocks hard! I recommend their live stuff more but the MV are pretty good too. Try out Moratorium live, Play live, Dice MV.
comment for dicodec. the beginning sequence was a callback to a previous video, a pop song(by MTH) that was interrupted by Ryo vomiting on the television that was playing it. then it showed a sequence of clips of Ryo pre-weightloss, and then we go into the video where Ryo is looki.g much slimmer and the whole band is surrounded by junk food. this leads me to the belief that this song is about the dangers of unhealthy food and its correlation to weight gain and Ryo had something to say about it. I'm guessing the girls "RUclips comment" at the beginning also was about Ryo and his size/ or her size(she was a bigger girl). I dont speak or read japanese, I'm just guessing.
@@dicodec If you haven't seen Buiikikaesu yet, the music video for Buiikikaesu is It has been removed on youtube. Now it's on dailailymotion. Zetsubou Billy on RUclips is very poor quality. The picture quality is better on dialymotion. I recommend these two and Bikini Sports Ponchin (which is also on dialymotion).
It is about the haterz complaining that the lead lost weight... LITERALLY....( if you notice in some the older ones he's a bit chubbier).. and that is why I love this fking band.
Band maid on hard rock and MTH on metal. I love them. Nice!!! Reaction looking forward on band maid music. I'm pretty sure you will like their music too
I really like this band but the label. You should be prepared and backup your channel just in case. Talking about progressive, please checkout the band Unlucky Morpheus, it's a progressive speed metal.. More J-Rock/Metal bros /,,/
You guys are right. This is a seamless transition that works real well. Two metal vocal styles and the soft vocal style. I need lessons in chopsticks. And guitar. And bass.
LOL, I've been to Japan once. It is not as expensive as you think. The best Ramen you'll have ever tasted you can find in small cheap mom and pop spots at the train stations. Less than 10 bucks, while to get the same in LA will be twice that and not half as good.
these guys are basically trolls and none of their songs are very serious fyi. It's a huge part of the appeal, they don't take themselves very seriously, unlike a lot of the bands of their style. They love to fuck with their fans lol.
The lyrics of this song are said to be that if you eat a lot of ramen, you may get diabetes or obesity, but you don't have to worry about eating ramen.
What's this about ? You thought the other video was his push back on those who shamed him for getting healthier this is the real video he pushed back with. The start is a fan girl looking back at him and his heavier days and their old music. The video has lyrics like fuck pain and food is hell. At the end when he is talking into the megaphone he gives stats on food related illnesses that are costing japanese citizens their health in an effort to tell those who want him fat and in pain once more to fuck off as he would rather die healthy and live with as little pain as possible than to be in pain all the time.
yes. Dai-chan and Nao were told by Ue-chan, "Are you still imitating Fun-mon (Funky Monkey Babies)?" Of course, it was just a joke. The picture of Ue-chan came out at the end, right? It's a parody of the Fun-mon album jacket.
We have just released our new Maximum the Hormone cover! ruclips.net/video/rAgFM-_6jqo/видео.html 😁

Maximum the Ryo lost loads of weight due to health problems and allot of fans said they didn't like how the new slimmer Ryo looked.... This song is his reaction
If you can find koi no mega lover or Buiikikaesu also from MTH, that would be awesome! The original mv is pretty hard to find now.
We will be filming the reactions for those songs very soon!
@@dicodec looking forward to it! If you're also into metal, i recommend Loudness - king of Pain (just revisited them)
We will add it to the list. Thank you for the suggestion!
Hope you try some Band-Maid next. Female Japanese rock band that rocks hard! I recommend their live stuff more but the MV are pretty good too. Try out Moratorium live, Play live, Dice MV.
I definitely will check them out live! We have two bandmaid reactions going up Saturday!
ホルモン聴いてくれて嬉しい✨✨
comment for dicodec. the beginning sequence was a callback to a previous video, a pop song(by MTH) that was interrupted by Ryo vomiting on the television that was playing it. then it showed a sequence of clips of Ryo pre-weightloss, and then we go into the video where Ryo is looki.g much slimmer and the whole band is surrounded by junk food. this leads me to the belief that this song is about the dangers of unhealthy food and its correlation to weight gain and Ryo had something to say about it. I'm guessing the girls "RUclips comment" at the beginning also was about Ryo and his size/ or her size(she was a bigger girl). I dont speak or read japanese, I'm just guessing.
That makes sense. Nice observation!
You should definitively reacr to "ningen isu" a +30 years old runing japanese metal band that's priceless.
Btw, great reactions!
Thank you! We will add it the list.
hell yes! Heartless Skat is how i discovered them! YES!
これBGMにして晩ご飯食ってみろ!!!!良い子は、決してしないように('Д')
It’s about the guitarists journey through weight loss and changing his lifestyle so he didn’t die
Ah. Thank you for clearing that up!
嬉しいなー☺️
言葉の意味が分かればもっと楽しいかもね(^^)
この動画好きだなwもっといっぱい投稿したらみます。
nice! I have subscribed to you. I want you to watch MTH more. For example:
Zetsubou Billy,
buiikikaesu,
koi no megaraba,
tsume tsume tsume,
F,
etc.
We've finished filming two of your suggestions. We will do the rest very soon. Thank you so much!
Ah i see. So it's a big FU to them huh?
Band maid on hard rock and MTH on metal. I love them. Nice!!! Reaction looking forward on band maid music. I'm pretty sure you will like their music too
I loved them but Alan is still on the fence about them - Eric
I really like this band but the label. You should be prepared and backup your channel just in case. Talking about progressive, please checkout the band Unlucky Morpheus, it's a progressive speed metal..
More J-Rock/Metal bros /,,/
Oh yes, UM. "Cadaver/Revadac" Another band that will blow you away.
We will definitely write that down. We have some band maid and more MTH on the way this week.
Japanese Mike Patton w/ Bungle/ Fantomas :) Awesome band!!!! Thanks for fun reaction.
Damn! I love Mike Parton. -Alan
2:46 「I liked Ryo better before(when he was fat Ryo)」
I'm sorry if my grammer is not correct
That was pretty decent grammar! We love Ryo no matter what shape he's in. -Eric
Dicodec Arigato (`・ω・´)ゝ
You guys are right. This is a seamless transition that works real well.
Two metal vocal styles and the soft vocal style.
I need lessons in chopsticks.
And guitar.
And bass.
Yup yup, one of our favorite aspects of the song!
Heck yeah never too late to learn good sir!
maximum the hormone are my new favourite band
Same here! Always am super excited to hear a new MTH song. -Alan
I think baby metal songs are good next or band maid
Rond of Nightmare or catch me if you can etc
We will do Baby Metal reactions soon. Band Maid reactions are ready to be released. We will react to your other suggestions.
機会があれば是非生で🙌🙌🙌
うれちい
we are happy too😃
最高!!!
7:14なんやかわいいなおい❤
Very cute haha
5:11 I laugh a bit when you stop shaking your head. Its confusing right? Hahahah
Definitely threw us off a bit haha
英語圏の人が何言ってるか分かってから最後の知らんがな!と次郎のつながり分かったらどういう反応か見たいなw
"They'll probably make sense later"
In what video of theirs you got that impression.
You're absolutely right haha 😂
LOL, I've been to Japan once. It is not as expensive as you think. The best Ramen you'll have ever tasted you can find in small cheap mom and pop spots at the train stations. Less than 10 bucks, while to get the same in LA will be twice that and not half as good.
That's so cool! The ramen here in El Paso TX isn't very good haha.
YEeeeeep, the guitar lost like 40punds, that song it´s for him
He even has a 6 pack now
What a journey
Indeed it has been
打首獄門会とかも好きになってくれそう
ホルモンのMVは途中で止めずに一気に最後まで観る方がいいね。
these guys are basically trolls and none of their songs are very serious fyi. It's a huge part of the appeal, they don't take themselves very seriously, unlike a lot of the bands of their style. They love to fuck with their fans lol.
Ah I see. That's pretty cool still. Doesn't take away from how good their music is.
待ってたw
Glad we were able to deliver!
A woman is singing the chorus, she is the drummer. Did you know that the guitarist and the drummer are brothers?
Ah yes. Nao and Ryo
I am Japanese junior high school
I love this song very much.
Very cool!
The lyrics of this song are said to be that if you eat a lot of ramen, you may get diabetes or obesity, but you don't have to worry about eating ramen.
Sounds like my kind of lyrics haha. I love me some ramen.
Woah, that is pretty intense
The guitarist got sick and lost hella weight and the girl is saying she missed the fat version of him
😁 very unik transition, make it good 👍
Definitely love the transitions in this song for sure
なんか嬉しいw
That was so fucking awesome. Insta-fan
Awesome! 😀
9:12 thats the answer 🤘🏻
🤘😎
この曲だけ知ってるし大好きww
ナオさん凄い褒めるし
Messed up...in a good way.
Agreed!
Welcome to 『腹ペコ』world!
10:49 Poor Ue-chan, he's also imitated by Funky Monkey Babies with a LOVE cap on Dai-chan.it's funny XD
Is that what hes saying in that last bit?
yes. Dai-chan and Nao were told by Ue-chan, "Are you still imitating Fun-mon (Funky Monkey Babies)?"
Of course, it was just a joke.
The picture of Ue-chan came out at the end, right? It's a parody of the Fun-mon album jacket.
The sentence of the screen of the smart phone: I liked the time when he gained weight
Thank you so much for the translation!
I want to see the reaction of HEY SMITH.
She sent a message to maximum the hormone.she prefer to be fat rather than thin
この曲好きだから俺にもハートマークくれよ!(?)
そのうちBABYMETALとかもやりそう
We've got a video ready to go. BabyMetal reaction coming soon!
Nice
Thank you!
