Hi Peter, these lights are great, yes perhaps a tad bright, but that doesn’t bother me. A whole train looks fantastic in the dark. Having said all that the light bars are so easy to make and you can make your own shorter ones which fit the 142s also. Just takes some 12v LED strip, bridge rectifier, wire and socket, for around quarter to half the price.
Hi Peter. nice review on the Dapol light bar, it really makes the layout come to a new level once you start adding coach lighting, the only downside is that it is more noticeable that the coaches are empty. Cheap figures from china can soon sort that out! 😁 (don't use superglue to fit figures as it may fog up your glazing). Another option that may be worth looking at is the N-gauge coach lighting from Tramfabriek, yes you will need to solder the plug on for the light bar, but it also gives you the option to add a capacitor to stop light flicker and you can also shorten the light bar if needed. I bought mine from evil-bay 😁. All the best Tony.
hiya mate totally agree adding lighting to rolling stock does bring it all to life and adds more more depth to a layout and atmosphere. and thanks for the hints and tips and i would never use super glue. glad you enjoyed the video as always. peter
I now make my own using 12 v lighting strips cut to fit in dapol mark 3 then using a resistor to tone down and.with a plug from eBay. Saved me 80 pounds on my mark 3’s.
Nice demo and review, Peter. Yes, I must admit, they may be a bit too bright. In HO/OO scale, it is not an issue, you can just add a resistor to lessen it, in N... not as easy. As you said, there is a positive way to look at it, but it would be nice if companies really worked harder on these and got it that little bit more correct.
Hiya mate Glad you enjoyed the video and I totally agree with you they could of put in a resister on the board. Hope you and the family are all well. Peter
Nice video. I have been considering getting some for my mk3s. I will have to add people in so they don’t look too bare. Is the cable noticeable? It looks longer than it needs to be and looks like you’ll be able to see it snaking through the coach. I will be trying them out regaurdless. Thank you very much 👍
hi lewis check which one you get for your mk3s as the older liverys would of had different lighting to what they have now in the real mk3s and dapol have cattered for that hope this helps. peter
So much easier than I though. Do they all come with the internal connector mate? Also do your coaches derail or uncouple from each other? Mine do on 2nd radius peco curves
@@chelmswoodjunction I've just had a closer look at my coaches and one has a shorter coupling in one end. Hense the derailing haha. I've just bought some farish mk1 regional railways coaches but they don't have the sockets. 😔
Hi Peter. Nice review. I can't remember off the top of my head whether your N gauge layout is DC (probably) of DCC; so is it necessary to buy a different version for DCC? If you have older coaches that don't have a built in socket, what do you do then - another version? Sorry to bust your chops, but quite some time ago in an earlier video I kidded you about the writing on your sweatshirt being back-to-front; I see the problem still persists!
Hiya mate You can use these light bars for dc and dcc if your coach does not have a socket I'm not sure in n gauge you can get round that. My n gauge layout is dc but unfortunately I do not have it donated ot to warley club as I have come out the hobby now got to expensive and I lost interest in it unfortunately. When your recording on your own using a phone not easy to get the image the right way round. Hope you and the family are all well and are ready for a great Xmas. Peter
@@chelmswoodjunction Hi Peter. So sorry to hear you are no longer in the hobby. Unfortunately, it always was (and is) an expensive hobby. You too have a great Xmas.
Another great 'how to' Peter!! Thanks again for sharing!!! Cheers Onno.
Hi onno
Once again brill to receive your lovely comments it was a simple and easy video but it was enjoyable to do it.
Peter
Hope we can put these in our new trains on the new layout😊
yes we will be able to put these lights in the new coaches we get.

That is way to technical for me.
Glad you enjoyed the video.

Hi Peter
Another great video with a good little review but I'm sure you said o gauge at the beginning of the brochure instead of oo gauge.
Thank you for the nice comments and yes I did mean oo instead of o gauge at the beginning of the brochure.

Not had any issues with derailing and alot of there coaches have the socket for lighting in them.

that is a very nice and easy fit why cant they all be that easy.

It would be if they stayed in the roof without some form of adhesive.
