- It was so good to run into Mr. Yamaguchi of Nagoya with his mint 230 Cedric (Datsun 200C/220C/240C/260C) at last year's Showa Retro Car Expo in Osaka. The moss green hardtop with its white, vinyl roof, L20 6 cylinder, triple SOLEX carburettor engine, and light interior is a sight to behold. As you can imagine, it's no daily. He only takes it out to events, but he's not afraid of driving it great distances either. Perhaps one day he'll attend my local Mojiko Retro Car Meeting in Kitakyushu... I hope so.

damn, that's a tidy '65 mustang!
I totally didn't see the connection at first. But, from the rear, yeah. I was thinking '70 though
It's OK to pander to me as an American, provided it works. :)
The feature car is fantastic and different, which is great to see. But that white one next to it.... oh my.
Ha! The four door pillarless hardtop? Yeah, a few others have singled that one out. It really is immaculate
It's great. Very beautiful car. Thank you, Daniel!
Hey, am more than happy to do it for all the Fury Road fans out there. ;-)
This Color with the vinyl Roof is a nice combination and the A Trac is the cherry on the cake 👍.
I just want to clarify what you mean by A Trac. The bars on the suspension? Very cool
@@wasabicars 8 track is my guess
@@wasabicars @Bruce Nichols answered correctly, I was sloppy at writing it down 🤦
Oh. I was thinking Traction bars, because a few others mentioned it
For me this car is perfect, even the slot mags are just the right size for me.
It's a great look for sure
Oh yeah...that's what we're shooting for....that's put me in a proper Saturday mood, cheers Dan!
Awesome. Thanks for watching :)
@@wasabicars love those 1970 Japanese boxy cars
Bam! Bam! Baaam!
The white Cedric on the rollout looked pretty cool :O
YEah, lol. I thought I'd bust that out again for all those who've been subbed for years ;-) The four door Cedric? Yeah, cleeeeeean
Great video thanx Daniel 😉👍
Mate, as always, thank you for watching :)
8-track player is awesome! ; ))
My grandpa had almost the same Nissan Gloria coupe 1971-1972 - even same colors.
Yeah? Sweet. That's very cool
It looks very awesome.
Could not agree more, Gabriel. It's mint!
A lot of Mustang comparisons here, would rather have this. Perfect color, stance, and wheels.
Great video as always, Dan. Take care.
Hey, Joe. The Mustang styling cues didn't register with me at all! But, I kept seeing comment after comment on Instagram. NOW I see it; those tail lights... Beyond obvious similarities in form, i.e. 2 door hardtop body, etc... I don't see much though. I will admit to not being overly familiar with the Mustang though.
@@wasabicars Those lights work with that car. And I still can't get over the slotted mags and GREEN color. She's perfect...
That Cedric is a work of art !
It is! And, I need more of it in my life.
What a great looking car
For sure, Jason. I've seen pics of some getting around Oz. Can't say I recall seeing one with my own eyes though. Have you?
@@wasabicars
Nope
From one Daniel to another 👌 some awesome cars!
Thanks, Daniel. I hope this won't get me in your bad books, but i will still totally forget your name. R -spec is gonna get stuck in me head :/
@@wasabicars haha I can 100% relate 😂
What a unique car for Japan with the MSD 6A, pistol grip shifter, AutoMeter gauges, raked. Thanks for sharing this special car.
My pleasure. Thanks for watching :)
Awesome!
Thank you. I think so too
Beauties together!
Yep, plenty of cool cars in here
Wow, never seen the 2 door before!
YEah, I don't believe I've ever showed one before. For the longest time I'd had some pictures of a green (same colour) 230 Gloria, but zero video footage. Massive oversight on my behalf there.
@@wasabicars I've seen Crown coupes, but never a Cedric, soo mint!
By gee, by jingo, by crikey, I love it!
I’d paint it yellow! 💛😂
12th man! I remember that... barely. ;-)
Looks fantastic 👍👍
Thanks, David
Immaculate!! And those rain guards!! 🔥🔥🔥
Lots of little details like that that make it awesome
Yeeeeeeeeeee lovely stuff
Agreed! Thanks, Angus
those cedrics 😍😍😍😍
Hey. Nice username :)
@@wasabicars i dont upload alot of my own cedric but hey i have one... actually 4 🤣
Wow! Look at that Musta... Uh, Cedric! Haha. I wonder if the cigarettes were a prop like the 8 track. Sharp looking car! Just wish the focus was. ;)
Hahahaha! Nice one. ;-) As for the Mustang comparisons, I totally didn't see it until I'd read the 2nd or 3rd comment mentioning "Mustang". Yeah, those taillights though. Unmistakable. Yeah, I hope the cigarettes are a prop
@@wasabicars Smoking is gross. :(
jdm mustang same with celica too i wish we could see more of the classics in the u.s.
For the record, I never connected the dots with the Mustang styling. Of course, I do see it now
For the record, sadly those cars were not imported to America (continent), only a really small number to Colombia between 1972 and 73, less than 50 cars apparently.
wow amazing
Thank you, darkcorsair247
That car looks amazing, my parents had a 1973 hardtop, it was really special as it had oem tape player where this one has the clock located. I have seen just two cars with that configuration, my dad's car and another one in Japan. Now I own two of them, both 73 hardtop. Cheers from Bogotá, Colombia.
Hey, man. Thanks. It's so cool to hear stories like that. Are you on Instagram? Do you have pictures of the cars there?
nice one Daniel
Thank you kindly, sir
The interior of these old Cedrics are just nice. Sometimes better than new ones.
For sure. This one looks wicked. It pulls of the light coloured interior very well
What an absolutely beautiful car. The back half reminds me of an old Ford Mustang. A '69 Mustang coupe was my first car. The front is similar to a Dodge Dart. The color is great! And such a fantastic interior, too!
Thanks for doing these videos! Keep them coming! Hope all is well!
Thanks, Josh. Yes, very Mustang in the rear (not that I noticed at first). And, yes, such a cool car :)
That Cedric looks like its straight out of the US from the 70s. Everything was raked back then with what we called slot mags. Maybe he is a big US car style fan.
Definite US influence; in the factory styling and in the treatment. Looks tops.
@@wasabicars I bet those big comfy couch looking seats are awesome on a road trip.
Those Cedrics/Glorias always look great in green.
It's a subdued colour, but just looks so hot!
That rake is so rad! Especially on those Ansen Sprints
The 5 slotters? I didn't know their name. I feel a hankering for some jellybeans though. ;-)
loove the sequential turn signals haha
looks like its straight out of 1975
Yes, very cool. I'm sure I saw sequential lights on another couple Nissan from that era, a C30 Laurel Hardtop and a 510 Bluebird... Anyway, very cool.
really liked that Nissan... the green van wasn't that bad either
Ah, the Urvan/Caravan... van thing. When I was living in PNG, there were countless of them on the streets as they were the nation's buses.
Was just watching the tv show "rev'd up". Who pops up talking about the crazy vans but Daniel. Season 1 episode 1.
Ha! Yeah, some production company asked to use some clips, and I thought why not? ;-)
Damn! For some obscure reason YT doesn't show me your videos on my feed anymore 😡 Anyways, I love this car, a true 70s muscle style ride, perfectly done in every aspect. To be fair I think it looks the best with these slot mags as they are one of the favorite wheels of choice when going this direction.
Note: a little note about the smoking thing, I'm a smoker too, but a rule that has always been enforced regardless if besides me is a stranger, my girlfriend, Jesus christ, or even Satan himself, is that if you smoke, window completely down, sigarette either out, or very close, never use the ashtray, I don't wanna smell cigarette butts with my windows up, and utmost care as if you were in a museum! Oh yeah, and no smoking in the back! 😅 😅 The result is that most people rather avoid smoking, as for me is at this point a robotic like action, it happens sometimes that some ash falls on me or the seats, but it's ash, no big deal, what I find more important is no smell, and not smoking the headliner. Yeah, a bit much, I'm perfectly aware! 😅
Thought it was a drag car :D rake level 1000
Hahahaha!
Keep it stock
or not
In the end, do whatever you want with your car!
Awesome video Daniel!! 👌🏽🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks, Thomas. What if it were your car? If it were mine, I'd like to see how it would look with the height of the rear lowered. Though, I do like the look of it raised...
@@wasabicars I would lower it a tiny bit, bigger offset on the rear so it doesn’t poke out that much. But other than that she looks stunning
@@wasabicars if I had owned cars like this I would have restomoded with correct era but have air ride suspension period correct hayashi racing wheel
Very nice car mate. There is one not far from me. Well when I say not far, its around 500 plus kms away. But its there lol.
It's just down the road! (Make sure you take plenty of drinking water and a compass though)
cool :). not exactly my style, but i like some of the details, such as the sequential tails, and that bee on the antenne haha
Ay, you noticed the Bee? I noticed about half way through making the video ;-)
Very bad ass car, but the white coupe at 1:15 is a new favourite!
Sorry, the four door to the left? I hope you got to see better views of it later in the video ;-) (I'll assume you did, but didn't want to re-comment)
@@wasabicars Sorry Daniel, I meant 3:15. The coupe on the drive out, liking that one, I've never seen one before!
3:15? Lol. Now I'm confused. It's the same car as the feature car
@@wasabicars 3:13 - 3:15 the white coupe! Cheers Daniel sorry for the confusion.
Ha! All good :)
my 1st comment..
I like to tell my friend's I was conceived in this car
Thanks for your comment, and for watching my vids :)
@@wasabicars Thank you for having me
Can clearly see the similarity of design with Skyline of the same generation.
Yeah, a curvier version of the two door Hako
So classy! I miss those hardtops!
Defo classy
That one's about perfect for my tastes, really. Wouldn't change much at all, maybe take that rake down just a notch, depending how the handling is. :)
I think I'm about the same. Still, to see it in real life with the rake, it is cool.
@@wasabicars Yeah, I actually like a moderate amount of rake, especially on that era of cars, (I gave my Duster kinda just-enough-to-be obvious in the course of suspension tuning, for instance, with some pretty awesome help from the leaf spring shop when I was like sixteen or seventeen and didn't know all that much, they were like, 'OK, girl, what kind of driving are you planning?' They set me right up that way. :) )
Awesome car.... sort of makes me think the Japanese were trying to enter the American market with this one.
Yeah, big Japanese cars of this era seems to take a lot of styling cues from US cars
Daniel, if the car show should be in ZRH and if you are jumping on the plane please tell me.
For sure. We should go and eat some 🍕
@@wasabicars - which size of pizza?
What an amazing car Daniel! That interior is indeed flawless and I would like to dive into it!
What the heck is the second car at 0:37? I see a first generation Opel Manta, a Skyline KPGC110 GT-R and some weird car that looks like a mashup of a Renault 15 and a Saab Sonnet III...
Hehehe... The Opel Manta is a Mazda Luce Rotary Coupe, and the weird car is a... Honda S600, a very special one. :)
@@wasabicars at first glance i thought it was a for door Luce, but then I spotted it being a coupe. So I thought it was a Manta... 😳
I'm really curious about that Honda S600 then!
i would keep it as it is.
btw have you not considered owning your own classic jdm?
Oh, I've definitely considered owning a classic JDM. Life is currently far too challenging for that to happen.
Mr d'oog i'll drop the back a lil bitt..but it's hot👳
That would look good too :)
Wheels not quite right... But otherwise a stonker😉
Fair enough. Thank you :)
I’d lower the rear end
You know. It could be toned down a bit back there ;-)
Totally freekin' awesome. You ask what I'd keep/change. Lose the gear lever and steering wheel for something more OEM. Keep the front wheel set up, lose the rear wheel set up. Perfection will ensue!
I love it when perfection ensues ;-)
Slam it a bit, wheels from the barrel brothers in aus. Go black .
Thanks, Neil
Love the car but not a massive fan of the rake
looks like the owner went for a American muscle car style for sure...
the raised rear, the lower front, the wheels, the pistol grip stick shift, yep...
doesn't look bad...
US influences for sure. All you mention, plus Nissan designers may have taken some cues from the Mustang. And there's even a bit more chrome under the bonnet, I mean 'hood', than you'd normally see in Japan
I thought my 1977 celica liftback looked like a mustang. This thing is just as bad
As bad? Lol. The Mustang, the Celica and this are all awesome 👍
