I personally do both. You know why? Because not doing anything is much more inefficient than doing both. When I'm too tired to grind, I gather, when I'm too busy to do either, I process or cook.
I alwase felt you were supposed to do both. Life skilling set up takes longer but allowes for steady cash flow while doing other things including actively grinding.
You're onto it. - its not an either / or path. If you don't build up your life skills, your money at the endgame will be seriously fucked; and the grind will push you out of the game altogether. 👍
the thing is with life skilling p2w is not optional. Tent is a necessary as is hedgehog. In combat, tent is useful in late game but isnt necessary for sycraia for example
You're right. But that's the thing though, BDO is a game that is going to eat a lot of time from your life in order to progress. P2W or not, It's a marathon.
@@palpaladin315 disagree, I very much dislike the idea of having to invest silver into life skill gear when I can make a bil an hr and just buy all my end game pieces as iv done so far
The game offers a mixture of full active, semi-active, semi-afk and full afk. It is quite literally possible to be online 24/7 with full efficiency. You do not need to choose 1 path, it is just a matter of what you want to get into first. I recommend going as far as you can in combat. If combat starts to get boring you can get into life skills, but in order to do so you will need to invest into some lifeskill setups which require money. This might give you some new motivation for grinding and smaller goals to work towards. (i.e., My next upgrade to my combat gear will cost me 10B silver, but my next life skill upgrade is only 100M.) Really you just play how you want to play with the goal of keeping things fresh. There are always things to work toward and in my experience knowing how to set the right goals for yourself is the key to having fun in this game. There are a ton of longterm goals to work toward in this game, but if you are creative in setting good short term goals, the grind will fly by much quicker than you would expect.
No reason to choose either or. Do both if you enjoy. Even being a grinding main while doing imperial cooking, farming, and an afk method like fishing or training can be just fine. No need to stress over which you do.
Agree I don't understand how it's become so standardized for people to leave on their pc while gone.. They should offer an alternative lifeskill level route where you make faster progress while doing the lifeskill non afk.
The way I play I make about the same amount of money grinding as I do life skilling each day. Since I never sell drops outside of accessories from grindspots (no caphras, blackstones, etc sold), I usually end up with like 200-400 mil in trash loot sold for an hour. Then I do my gathering or hunting for an hour to keep up my supply of valencia meals which make me like 220 mil a day, afk fish or process the rest of the day which earns like 100 mil. Nice steady progression for me, if I try to grind for hours everyday I just get burnt out and quit mid grind lol.
I'm 720 gs, and only guru in fishing, cooking, and alch. I like both. I have to be in the mood to grind now, as I don't really have too much to grind for now. Sure, maxing out my gear is a goal but my gear rn allows me to do anything in the game. Lifeskilling gives alternative chill goals to keep me playing
Sitting only for 2 hrs of grinding is too tiring for me. Lifeskill is way too much easier but it takes time to have a profit. Ill go with lifeskilling/trading.
Edit: 4 months later and im 706GS , thank you very much In my opinion and 7 years of playing BDO on and off, having both combat and lifeskill gear (289kutum/370dp and having a mix of full pen loggia/tri manos accesories and tet manos clothes and tools, max sniper and hunting rifles) It really comes down to your overal approach to the game. Combar grinding mobs is always easier and better approach and pretty much the braindead version of playing the game...for the most part at least, you still need to learn the class and skills, etc. Lifeskilling requires more thinking and planning and gives a big variety of activities. The approach to BDO comes here if your enjoyment comes from getting gear for pvp/pve or wanna actualy enjoy the game itself doing all kind of stuff , including both combat and lifeskilling. Really is up to you, my best advice is to try what seems fun and if you like it, then try to optimize it for max profits while having fun. Going into bdo trying to max profits first without enjoying the activity is a sure way to end up hating the game and taking a 12 month break :)
@@osvaldokim9768 he didn't say that it took him 7 years to get the gear, but that he had been playing on and off for 7 years. Matter of fact, he didn't state how long it took him to get the gear at all.
@@GenXHBReacts Exactly, my main Ranger has 155 days of game time and theres maybe another 50 days total spread over DK, Maehwa, Shai, Lahn and Sorc. All spread over 7 years since beta bdo started. I can easily see that this person is a new player because BDO is gradualy getting easier every year to a point where people can now get my gear in just few months of efficient playing , but couple years back it would take them substantialy longer. But yes to add to what you said, i got my gear in big chunks whenever i played for 1-3 months straight, then stopped for few months up to a year sometimes lol.
you can convert every 200 energy into an extra large energy potion (recovers 50 energy) at an npc such as Alustin in velia, so if you have a lot of energy and a lot of alts you will be able to get plenty of energy potions. You can also get energy potions with loyalties, as well as buy them off the central market.
So the energy pots you get from converting energy or buying from market place are on a 10 minute CD. Depending on what you're grinding you'll be burning energy quicker than you can recover. The pearl shop pots are on a separate CD so if you chug both the 50 energy xl pot and pearl shop, you should be able to go non-stop. Otherwise, you'll hit a limit at some point if you're on the normal pot. For most players this isn't an issue, I would need a break anyway. However, point still stands
There's more to life skilling than gathering so the energy problem isn't a real problem for most life skillers. It's only a problem for gatherers. Grinders do have the same issues with market prices but they're less affected than life skillers. The only forms of raw silver independent from the market that life skillers have access to is fishing, training, trading and bartering. Even cooking isn't as affected by market prices if you only do imperial delivery, it's only the hardcore cooks who are. I do believe it's better to do both grinding and life skilling as it's kinda bad to grind without lootscrolls so you can't really grind all day every day and need to do some life skilling that isn't as reliant on lootscrolls.
The greatest con to lifeskill IMO is the need of ValuePack to actually collect the money you farmed, instead of just selling the trash itens to NPC as grinders do.
At +8 years doing and living and making rich only doing LifeSkill, i prefer Life. Grinding only +1000 hours and is super boring... maybe you can get alot of money, but when you doing boring activities, (not fun for me almost), you left the game. I try to do the opposite of what the "meta" is so I can always get my gear/items cheaper. Right now I'm looking into buying into some of the dips in lifeskill items, though the infinite potions are things I'll need to buy.
As someone who is 2k mastery on most relevant lifeskills and 309 kutum on top of that, I think lifeskills are very nice chill activity if u wanna take it chill and not stress. If u are playing with the mindset of wanting to catch up tho u need to grind. With the recent crash of valencia and balenos meals the money from lifeskills got lowered and personally i just started grinding more and focused on lvling alchemy and gathering sap as my chill lifeskill activity (to lvl up gathering and alchemy further) to break up the grind. U definitely can make good money from lifeskilling but u are definitely not making 800-1b an hour. And if u are, it's with a lot of steps like cooking, undercutting ppl on the mp etc. That's ignoring the hundreds of hours and tens of billions of silver u must invest to even properly make a lifeskilling setup and get even remotely close to 800m per hour xd
Mhm! It's more like 200m to 300m an hour and it's simple and fun to change it up. Where as your grind spot stays the same unless you jump up 10 to 15 ap.
I have always liked your content and have been a subscriber for a long time. It seems to me that you were always destined to do both life skill and grinding, and you yourself marked the content in areas where you grinded, as well as explained part of the life skill, how to do things, hunting, alchemy, cooking, etc. Come on, cheer up my brother
BDO in my opinion has 3 distinct facets, PvP, PvE and lifeskilling, one more pro for PvE is that it directly progresses your potential for PvP where lifeskilling does not.
I do a 2 hour grind on my main then switch to my alt to process/cook/alchemy semi afk for a while then go back to the grind for 2 hours. Then afk horse train/fish while at work or sleeping. It might not be the most efficient way to play but it keeps the game fun.
In my mind I am 80% grind vs 20% life skilling, but in reality if I look at the actual active time in-game I only grind 20% of it and the rest I run dailies, most of witch are life skill ones. Not even including the afk fishing! One thing that no one mentions and that is really annoying in life skilling though is the sooo many unnecessary non-cancelling stupid animations. Take just fishing as example - cursing forever after a failed catch, standing up from chair for like half the afternoon until you can walk or do anything, staring at the caught fish for unnecessary 3 seconds AFTER it's already caught, and so on... Even the horse mounting, after 2 failed patches to fix it is still so annoying to mount and dismount.. Some ppl may say - 2-3 secs, whats the big deal?? It IS a big deal, when you multiply it by the month!
I rather grind.1-1.3b a hr but tbh I quited for 2 years cause infinite pot grind killed me , I enjoyed grinding new spot but after a hour I feel burn so I got switch it 2 hours a day my max I always like life’s skilling if I never had that 20% ls in the mix I prob left first day back again
Another way of making money is afk money - garden, labour, afk fishing. When you add up all you can earn while doing nothing you earn way less money than grinding, but you don't get tired
I do both as I can´t grind 24/7 and some lifeskill stuff can be done afk/partially afk as you are doing somehting else outside bdo. You do earn less silver (probably, according to you gear and all...) but you are still earning when you can be fully playing.
just play the game!!! grind until you get bored, life skill until you get bored, pvp until you get bored...wash, rinse, repeat. just play the game or get left behind
Fantastic video. I would personally like to get progress from grinding solare. However, the current one time 300mil event is probably the only thing we are getting considered their stance on arena pvp. It really is the bare minimum for competitive pvp.
if you want to get best silver / h, never think about life skilling. in the current state of the game only do lifeskills if you really enjoy this content and if you do not care that in the same amount of time you could do 3 or even more times the money while grinding. lifeskills just requires a immense amount of time to grow and setup. plus you will need much more pearl shop stuff then you need for grinding. it is just heavily outdated in terms of money / hour and systems required to run it.
I wish there was a consistent way to make money doing PvP - Like maybe if they had a certain silver reward per arena of arsha win? I know there are weekly quests but I mean something more. That way PvE, Life skilling, and PvP could be ways to make money and not be bored
Would be nice to have an option to exchange the arena of solare coins for silvers, it shouldn't be too competitive income compared to grinding but at least give something maybe 150-200 an hour excluding queue times. It's also a big irritation why they don't leave solare open for the whole year to the people who enjoy gear equalized pvp, there is no reason not to do this I think they didn't put much thought into it, it just fits their scheme of events and fomo pestering this game. Them introducing this new 300 mil event questline is a testiment to the solare participation, they literally have to hand out 600 crons for the avarage player to show interest in solare. I think for most people pvp in mmos is rather side content since it's not balanced like an actual pvp game not easy to get into unless there is really good skill based matchmaking. Don't get this as me saying pvp shouldn't be in the game tho. The more variety there is in an mmo the better.
I pretty much only do life skill and must say if I would not get bored from grinding I would rather grind until you can get tet manos accessory. Because that way faster then trying to get the money for manos gear as low to mid level life skill player.
Grinding is way more profitable unless you play the market. Also, "do something every 15-20 min" is NOT afk. Semi-afk is something very different, and you might like it or hate it.
@@imPansy barter, cooking/alchemy is if you do the fast way not overnight, etc. Full AFK is basically fishing and overnight processing? Or mastery cooking/alch ? Or maybe something changed and I'm really wrong? :D
Lifeskill is looks well but, you neeed too much resources at the beginning and its hard to obtaining money close to season gear at the begining. So this makes lifeskill hardest way for money. You need time so you do not have to Rush anything if you would like to do lifeskill. Sometimes you will spend your 4h grinding money for lifeskill but you will felt nothing after cutting trees for 3 hours. So you have to be patience and invest lifeskill stuff much time and money too. After all of theese, this invest rewarding you a perfect cashflow,ez money.
id say life skilling is more contested then grinding now with the new private areas available to grinders. Sniping is always contested by at least 3 or 4 players, normal hunting is just the same. going to places like Behr is again heavily contested to level gathering. But its still the way i enjoy to play the game.
Good video I'm just curious about your setup. Why is there a box in the middle of your screen? Your face isnt lined up with your body.. Just a weird thing I noticed.
Grinding will also help develop your basic combat skills on a class, creating muscle memory that has cross uses in pvp which occupies a massive amount of content in the game. The huge counterpoint to grinding is that you can die and potentially lose extremely expensive and hard to replace crystals, especially in the new top grinding spots where you can't cap out for every form of cc and you can get an unlucky chain cc. Also the really big difference is that its now possible to cap out lifeskill mastery with easily attainable gear, whereas with grinding when you hit a certain point you have to go for PEN Debo items that are absurdly annoying to pursue.
Ty for the video. I just have 1 question, if I want to do 5-6 different life skills (I will have alts for some) will I need to buy a bunch of crap off the pearl shop? I see a lot of people on reddit mentioning buying LT. I am only willing to spend maybe $30-50 to be a good life skiller.. if it's any more than that I won't bother getting into the game. Ty!
So weight isn't toooo big of a deal. Main thing is the Hedgehog and the costumes. Realistically, the cooking costume is the most important one. So if you had to pick and choose, prioritize those 2. Everything else is NICE to have and convenient but those 2 are important imo
sorry bad english , great video , please take a doubt master 13 hunt how many hours will it be with full buff i can get guru , i have cake some buffs and pot of energy other things
No some are active like gathering and hunting. Gathering has some afk things you can do but is very slow. Fishing and training are good to afk. Cooking and alchemy are exclusively afk. Depends on what your doing and what the goal is
Hey thanks for the video, i'm new to BDO and i would like to know what do you mean at 03:36? what will or may has already been changed when it comes to contested grinding?
So they made Marni realm recharge so basically you have a solo instance to grind in every other hour. Also guild war decs have been made to be 2 side, so someone can’t dec your guild to fight you out of your spot
Im still wondering why inflation is so high. Lol new player finds first shop, what do we have hear. Sees several items that normaly would be cheap or newb stuff sold for millions. And hour or 2 later maby sooner new player realizes a mill is basicaly a dollar.
I wouldn't be able to play BDO they only do one of these things. I would get bored very quickly :( I can't grind for more than 1 hour because I fall asleep over the keyboard and then mobs kill me, I lose crystals and I'm still at minus silver instead of plus ;P I'm slowly improving my geat for all activities at the same time, which means that I can do something different every day :)
i have a trouble about trash loot in pve grinding, so fast to heavy inventory, sometimes i use maids, and horse carriage for trash loot, any better management for trash loots?
hey mate i need ur help pls give me some advice so i want to start lifeskilling alot and start making really good money too once my ranks are very high what gear should i start off with? like should i get base loggia gear or base manos gear etc and how to progress with the gear for it , and also should i life skill on my shia has some ranks already but the weight and bag space is bad or start the main life skilling on a char that i don’t use that has way more bag and weight space? if u can help me with these questions and give me tips on how to start out and progress id really appreciate it
If you rely on grinding, your time in this game is going to be very limited. Whereas life skilling is just building up life slills. Its not an alternative to grinding. You need both, and then start building a marketing plan through trading, to eventually start establishing yourself as a magnate. - The last thing you wanna do is be a settler who's only control over the MP is being reactionary to it.
I would say so. You can share your armors, accessories and whatever gear that can commonly be equipped. You can tag and copy gear of your main. This game doesn't force you to farm repetitive content on multiple alts to progress or anything.

if you want to get best silver / h, never think about life skilling. in the current state of the game only do lifeskills if you really enjoy this content and if you do not care that in the same amount of time you could do 3 or even more times the money while grinding.
lifeskills just requires a immense amount of time to grow and setup. plus you will need much more pearl shop stuff then you need for grinding. it is just heavily outdated in terms of money / hour and systems required to run it.
Keep it up man! Great vidio😁
Or make rbf a real life skill and have better payouts and earning potential
I just grind when I am actively behind my PC and wanna blast and I process/alchemy when I go to the store, watch a movie with my GF etc... :D
Change it up and do both. You don't need BiS.
What is anyone doing every 15 minutes
Everything else is NICE to have and convenient but those 2 are important imo
love the vids and i feel the same way about life and grinding
Why not both? AFK fish or cooking overnight. Sell those items, collect and replant farms and then go grind
I do both and have fun with the game :D
sorry bad english , great video , please take a doubt master 13 hunt how many hours will it be with full buff i can get guru , i have cake some buffs and pot of energy other things
New to the game (gonna play tonight) , as far as AFK life skills .. is that for every skill ? You have to afk to level ?
No some are active like gathering and hunting. Gathering has some afk things you can do but is very slow. Fishing and training are good to afk. Cooking and alchemy are exclusively afk. Depends on what your doing and what the goal is
Hey thanks for the video, i'm new to BDO and i would like to know what do you mean at 03:36? what will or may has already been changed when it comes to contested grinding?
So they made Marni realm recharge so basically you have a solo instance to grind in every other hour. Also guild war decs have been made to be 2 side, so someone can’t dec your guild to fight you out of your spot
thank you good sir, that was a swift answer@@imPansy
Additionally,
Grinding = less electricity bill overall
Lifeskilling = more " " "
Con : Electricity cost for afk life skilling.
I’m feeling that right now 🥺
Im a grinder.. my problem is I'm running out of loot scroll 😢
Hello ^^ i am new to bdo and have to learn so much. Like your videos to watch, keep it going!
Afk horse training or fishing would be best afk activities if you are going afk for 8hrs+ . Afk money just isn’t that high compared to active methods
@@imPansy i apppreciate your answer realy much.
Yes my plan is shai has tet manos and musa has 300+AP
I'm a lifeskiller returning after about a year.
welcome back man
how much weight do you need for main and alts that you want to play on too are maid better. Thank you
Nice work, keep it up
Im still wondering why inflation is so high. Lol new player finds first shop, what do we have hear. Sees several items that normaly would be cheap or newb stuff sold for millions.
And hour or 2 later maby sooner new player realizes a mill is basicaly a dollar.
I wouldn't be able to play BDO they only do one of these things. I would get bored very quickly :( I can't grind for more than 1 hour because I fall asleep over the keyboard and then mobs kill me, I lose crystals and I'm still at minus silver instead of plus ;P I'm slowly improving my geat for all activities at the same time, which means that I can do something different every day :)
i do both im master in just about everything working on getting guru
i have a trouble about trash loot in pve grinding, so fast to heavy inventory, sometimes i use maids, and horse carriage for trash loot, any better management for trash loots?
you can infinite stack on your horse
whats the problem?
@@Tschonas ahhhh i see
hey mate i need ur help pls give me some advice so i want to start lifeskilling alot and start making really good money too once my ranks are very high what gear should i start off with? like should i get base loggia gear or base manos gear etc and how to progress with the gear for it , and also should i life skill on my shia has some ranks already but the weight and bag space is bad or start the main life skilling on a char that i don’t use that has way more bag and weight space? if u can help me with these questions and give me tips on how to start out and progress id really appreciate it
start with whichever gear you can afford and focus on leveling up. If you want to hunt, then pick a class accordingly like striker/mystic/shai
@@imPansy my mystic has the most bad and weight space and i don’t use her shall i make her as my life skiller?
Hm i Set it up to 1h Gathering and 1H Pot Grinding per Day rest is Bartering/Processing and do some other stuff.
PS: I dont like Hunting.
Still yet to do dungeons (outside of the solo quests) because Im super antisocial
Need to have fun, the way each like.
do what you wanna do its a open world !
This day Hit 305 kutum 😂 new life skill gear coming 😊
just do both.
simple fix, add trash loot drops to life skilling problem solved
If you rely on grinding, your time in this game is going to be very limited. Whereas life skilling is just building up life slills. Its not an alternative to grinding. You need both, and then start building a marketing plan through trading, to eventually start establishing yourself as a magnate. - The last thing you wanna do is be a settler who's only control over the MP is being reactionary to it.
grinding > lifeskill
Is this game alt friendly?
I would say so. You can share your armors, accessories and whatever gear that can commonly be equipped. You can tag and copy gear of your main. This game doesn't force you to farm repetitive content on multiple alts to progress or anything.
they need a third path, pvp gear so we dont have to fucking deal with pve
Grinding big con for me is the weight of the trash.. get overweight real fast
I hear ya. I ended up getting 4 t4 weight pets and a bunch of maids. Both my main and tag (witch/maehwa) have no additional weight aside from loyalty
Hunting my favorite good silver and easy
Grinding better
Life skilling is boring as hell.
Man its the same thing as grinding except you grind snakes and scorpions
@imPansy I just need a good chef to teach me the way of the foods. ☺️
Agent Russ and Summer are good sources of info for cooking. I’ve been pretty inactive
Neither, touch grass, live
Life skills sucked
How about quitting the game? Was the best decision of my life.
I do both
I pretty much only do life skill and must say if I would not get bored from grinding I would rather grind until you can get tet manos accessory. Because that way faster then trying to get the money for manos gear as low to mid level life skill player.
