Probably in a minority of veteran supporters (started 1963, went to every Individual World Final since 1967), the main attraction for me is what I SEE, NOT what I HEAR or SMELL. Given my own club which has been evicted twice, and has been thwarted several times in seeking a nearby new site by planners on the grounds of NOISE, I fully support the development of e bike speedway IF it is an exciting alternative. Hopefully it would reduce the excessive running costs that riders currently incur, in terms of equipment & expensive maintenance & tuning
Is certainly fun to ride on but not to watch as today's speedway matches are, which is the sound and smell that make the speedway fun and exciting to watch
INDOOR Speeday racing right in the heart of town now possible! I can see it now a short track enclosed by glass walls inside of a huge restraund/bar where you enjoy nightly racing while dining drinking! Could be beyond awesome!
THIS KILLS THE WHOLE ESSENCE OF SPEEDWAY. THE SOUND OF THE ENGINES AND THE SMELL OF METHANOL IS PART OF THE SPORT. MIGHT AS WELL RIDE A BIKE AROUND THE HIGH SCHOOL TRACK..
This is the future of speedway. Will 500cc eventually be available? And I’m sure the sound of a speedway bike could be implemented somehow into the E speedway bike.
It's the future for Kids for training and giving kids the opportunity to train on speedway bikes. Probably closes the gap between poland and other countries where speedway Training is so complicated nowadays.
There is only one way electric bikes will ever work out cheaper to buy and run compared to current bikes and that is if they run a single make series for electric bikes with sealed motors and batteries (meaning you can not tamper with them). Otherwise there will be after market batteries offering greater performance over standard batteries, after market electronic offering better performance, better power handling, longer life for the battery and then there is the motors, the motor can be tweaked, hi rpm, low rpm, low range grunt, mid range grunt. Then with all this stuff running at the peak of its performance it all has to be serviced. At the end of the day electric bikes will be as tune-able as current bikes, yeah they may be quieter than current bikes, but the cost will be the same
Not at all , you’ll be able to check within a few buttons if they are cheating not by stripping a engine , there will always be cheats in racing. Are you someone that build electric motors that knows what you said to be true ?
Controller locked and full datalogging. And we made an app for Danish motor union to see if people are using the right power or not. But this is racing. Someone will try to cheat :)
A fascinating concept. In the long run, and I mean 10 years or so, practically I see no reason why electric cannot replace methanol 500cc. No range issues, same acceleration, power, weight. Totally like for like. Whether supporters of speedway would accept a quieter sport without the smells, rumble if the warm ups etc, I don't know. I remember the controversy when 4 valves came along, but it happened. In the meantime though electric seems brilliant for training youngsters.
Fantastic! Im sure this is what will dominate the sport eventually. Anyone not getting getting their kid on one of these now will probably not get to see them on a podium in the future. And for these kids the sport wont be about ghe smell and noise, but the raw power and speed!
I've been following speedway since 1969 (and had a bash at it myself for 5 years but got nowhere). Now I'm an out and out petrol (or methanol) head and I also love the noise and smell of the sport. However (and it pains me to say it) this m-i-g-h-t just be the saviour of speedway in Britain in the not-too distant future. It's getting harder and harder to oppose stadium owners in their ever-increasing numbers to sell to developers. BUT for some stadiums within (or near) housing estates where there are good chances of opposition to noise, E-speedway might just be the solution. I do sense though, that if normal 500cc racing has to be finally curtailed in this country, die hard supporters may not bother coming through the turnstiles, which would be another problem to solve. On the plus side, lower costs (and the subsequent knock-on effects) of these E-bikes may well bring more new blood into the sport. I don't think I've explained myself too well but I hope you get the gist of what I'm saying. Anyway many thanks for the interesting filming and video.
If the cost element means that more schoolboys/girls can have go and raise meeting entry numbers, then surely it has to be a good thing. With the news out about Swindon, it is a timely reminder that the sport is struggling. Anything that can save clubs has to be given serious consideration. A buzzword not used openly in speedway as it is in other businesses is "diversification". If oportunities are ignored then clubs will continue to struggle.
Firstly what a great little film , fun to watch and informative . Its the future at some point! Natural progression , just look how many kids start on an electric “ revi type” balance bike / strider. Then next progression is to an electric osset or kuberg (?) Now they can move on to a 50 cc equivalent mx bike with ktm’s new kids bike . Some kids wont know anything else other than electric.

I also hated computers, smart phones & the interwebs, but now I'm fully immersed & just fine. Meet Tomorrow & embrace it -- speed's the thing, remember? 💯
Like you said Pies, maybe it's some solution for learning and developing techniques but I think real speedway always will be 500cc and methanol. Noise and smell must be😉 Fact is electric is low maintenance, but how long is battery live I mean how many seasons we don't know yet. Also I think from start when release clutch then 500cc bike has more power and is getting faster when clutch released because you keep revs on top, here on electric have to start with less revs and then quickly increase them. However for fun and for kids it's ok👍 BDW your old blue kevlar what I was used in Scunthorpe now is binned after my crash😉 Best regards. See you next time in Scunny 👊
