Have to tell you, when you guys moved, I could not imagine how you would turned this modern home into a comfortable heirloom home like you have your two previous houses.... yet I am amazed at the beauty and simplicity and absolute joyful spaces you guys have transformed and created and made your own!! And the POOCHES!!! and KITTY!!! Love them so much!! The yard is beautiful and simple as well!
I have to say, I didn't have a clue where you were going with those shelves and all of those measurements, but omg, they turned out so stylish 😂 and beautiful!
Christina, the shelves look like they’ve always been there; looks really nice. Love the decor you put in them, including the round tray. Love the wall decor shelve - looks amazing.
Just a little tip here from an ol' furniture maker and woodworker. You don't need to add the kerf of your blade into your shelf measurement. Simply cut on the opposite side of the line. So, just as an example, if your shelf is 24", measure from the edge of your board over 24", mark your line, and then cut on the outside of the line. Don't cut on the line or inside the line in between the edge of the board and the line marking your shelf. Wish I could include a drawing or something, lol. Hope this makes sense. Beautiful work as always and it's awesome that you're building. It's really not as intimidating as it can seem. Confidence is key😊!

Always cut on the waste side of your measurement just leaving the pencil mark, that way it’s always just the amount you need and you don’t need to allow for any blade/ kerf width. The shelf looks amazing!

Good morning Christina, such a brilliant idea placing the shelving in that "invited" space for a project! That is such a winner idea. It is lovely to show the cutting boards and of course the new tray which turned out so beautiful. Who would have given a thought to change the tray into something special. Love how things can be easily reached and no need to go and unpack half your goods in a cupboard to get them out for use. The shelving is not intended to be over loaded with kitchen goods either, just for an instant grab and go. Hopefully many viewers that have unused space will follow your project idea and make full use of this idea. The dogs were having a real good time, boundless energy and the sophisticated kitty is just so serene and quiet. Love to look at her eyes. This was a very interesting project video. Lol, one more tip. I should've just included this in my other comment. When applying stain, always wipe on AGAINST the grain and wipe off along the grain. I see a lot of crafting or DIY videos wiping the stain on along the grain. The problem with this is that the stain will sit on top of the wood grain. When applying against the grain, the stain will actually penatrate all the pores and inside the gaps of the grain giving you the most out of the stain and a much more even coating. This goes for all types of stain, gel included. Also, if you want to use a poly to seal instead of a wax or paste, when using an oil based stain always use a polyurethane and when using a water based stain use a polyacrylic. Oil with oil, water with water. Hope this helps! 😊

I think I have to look at it more because of its unusualness. I like bargains and that tray was but only if it is useable and practical and you made it both with your revamping. What a great idea for such a small space. It looks so good and the way you styled it adds so much interest. I love when cutting boards are displayed. Now...the other shelf. I think I have to look at it more because of its unusualness. I like bargains and that tray was but only if it is useable and practical and you made it both with your revamping.
