I am just going to say. I love how your house is so normal. One my sister and I biggest pet peeves is all these people paying so much for homes and then spending money and ripping out perfectly good kitchens and bathrooms. None of that insane over priced decor.

Lately I have been feeling really down that we've only chipped away at redecorating our house and there are still major areas (the upstairs bathroom- ugh) That I hate and haven't really touched. Knowing that you've also been in your house for a handful of years and still are redoing things that the previous owners did makes me feel so much better about our home and the non-existent timeline we've had for remodeling/redecorating.
    Thanks for posting!

We went on vacation and they had one big sink and my husband said "Why didn't we do this again? I like it so much more then ours." I said because we never clean the dishes so we put the dishes in the sink but of course my husband and I disagree on which side should have the dirty dishes. Loved that the kids started singing like angels when you said it without prompting!

I haven't read all the comments so perhaps someone already recommended this, but with your new Ikea cabinet, instead of notching the baseboard I would add wood blocks under the two legs and paint them white to match. Then you won't have to replace the baseboard when that piece of furniture gets replaced some day.

I relate to the all over brown color. Our house was too when we purchased it. I am married to a contractor so the DAY we closed escrow (and before we moved in) hubby, etc. painted walls, tore down the popcorn ceilings and replaced them with a nice knockdown (?). House was magically transformed into one I was happy with. We slowly renovated the rest for several years. Takes time and money as you know. We purchased the house for a steal since the family had already moved out of state and the husband was still here with only a t.v., t.v. tray, lawn chair and mattress 😏. You all are doing really well.

Love the incoming kitchen cabinet knobs!! And who doesn't want a ginormous kitchen sink??? (a/k/a animal bath tub, at my house, lol). Since you aren't planning to paint the cabinets, and love citrus smells, I recommend buying some Pledge orange oil spray and wiping all the cabinet faces with that before installing the new knobs. It smells AMAZING and will give the cabinets a fresh 'like-new' glow for several weeks.

My husband and I recently replaced a toilet that said "easy one person install", no! The previous owners of our house also used the cheapest option for things and we had to get a new wax ring bc we ruined one. I did learn new skills and toilet terminology: flange closet, Johnny bolts.
It also makes it hard bc toilets are usually against a wall and in a corner!

Jellybeansbud I know you didn’t ask me but we just got a quote at the end of last year to replace the siding on our house. It’s 1543 sf and the front of home has brick that would remain. The quotes we got were 10k and 13k for two siding brands the company quoted. We are in Louisiana and I can’t recall the name f the company but pretty sure we called sears for the quote and they sent the particular company out. We are opting to just replace the bottom two rows of our siding and trim instead and that came to just under 2k from a local roofing and siding contractor I had come out last week.

🚽🚽🚽 idea..... For the bathroom shower area...instead of a door....how about " saloon" style shutters? They hang mid way down the door jam, stay "closed" so won't impeed into the shower room space....and if you are changing it still gives that but of privacy... Just a thought. House is looking great guys!!!

Loved the video. Totally agree washing big pots in a small sink is a pain. Love the colors you picked for the bathroom. But I kept thinking, "Why aren't they painting the trim in the corner before installing the new toilet?"

    Hi Christine,
I have a huge under mount sink in my kitchen and washing up big pots and roasting pans are so much easier.
But I regret that I cut the same size hole in bench top as the sink. You can see where sink and bench top meets and silicon gunk and mound is so visible and you can never clean well. So I suggest you cut the hole of bench top smaller than the sink so you never see that! I look forward to your new bench top!

Those shut-off valves always seem to be broken when you change out toilets. Almost every toilet we’ve ever replaced we had to change the shut-off valve, too.

I think you’ll love Outlander. It’s one of my favorite series of books. I’ve re-read them three times.
