The Simple way to Replace BIOS Battery HP G62 Series Laptop

  • In this video I show the simple way to replace the bios battery. In this video I use a dremel tool to cut a new access in the bottom of my computer. I had determined from disassembling a similar model laptop computer that the bios battery is the most impossible place to reach and that disassembling all the zillions of tiny little screws, ribbon cables, pop out keyboard, and tiny little plugs is probably about just as risky of a procedure as just cutting a hole in the bottom of the computer. when doing this, care much be take not to cut the internal wires or circuit board since that will definitely ruin the computer. Also there is no guarantee that the bios battery will be in this same location on other models of computers, so don't try this on any different models of manufactures unless you know exactly where the battery is. If fact use this as a last resort. It is very risky that you will permanently damage your laptop.

    I was thinking of doing this before I saw your video, then five minutes later I trimmed that cover and had the machine keeping the correct time again! Shame on hp not to have access for a servicable part. In 2024 its a 20 dollar machine but can get the job done for most stuff like email. Thanks !

    I am a retired pro tech who now fixes computers for a thrift store. I get so much technology in every day that I only have so much time to spend on something that is DOA. One of the known solutions is the CMOS fix. I would never spend half an hour to ReNre the CMOS battery on something that is as completely lifeless as this G62 that is in my hands right now. Let me find my Dremel....
    Ignore the sceptics and critics, my friend. Nice re-engineering, YOU D MAN!

    Xacto knife for clean edges. Small plastic plate to cover after with some screws and you have great fix! A computer case customized for bios battery replacement. So you don't to have to pay a geek to replace. Which is why they were designed with obsolescence in mind in the first place.
    Geeks screaming on here about integrity of case, laziness and others... Some of us don't fill our head (ego) with I'm a superior tech because I spend three hours tracking screws and small plastic tips that get broken. I want to boot and use my computer not, continually, crack open the case and dabble in the dang thing.

    Jesus, that's an embarrassing hackjob. You'd forever compromise the integrity of the case just to avoid turning a screwdriver? I'm glad for the information regarding location, but as someone who's had one of these apart several times, this seems like an incredibly lazy "fix" considering that standard disassembly isn't that hard (for anyone reading this, it's fewer than 30 screws to disassemble, not "hundreds"). Tip for beginners: don't ever use a Dremel next to circuit boards and electrical components you cannot see. That's day one stuff for home electronics repair.

    • @jaynesnetwork

      The last guy thought it was hilarious! Yes there is some risk in this procedure... but you didn't mention all the ribbon cables and other connectors that not only have to be unconnected... but then reconnected.. 100%!... exactly.. or the thing will not work.. Yes, if you find something useful in this video., like the location of the battery.. then I guess the video was still helpful.. even if you don't follow my advise to the tee!!! Thanks again for the great comments!!! I probably don't recommend doing this with a brand new computer... This is one that I would end up through out anyway.. so nothing left to loose by hacking up up!!

    • @jaynesnetwork
      @jaynesnetwork  7 лет назад

      Most likely this is not the issue. I would trouble shoot all other things first. I believe a lot of these mother boards develop breaks in the circuits due to thermal cycling. If you really think the bios battery is an issue this is the rout I would probably take. I have a video showing where the bios battery in an similar computer, and it is not an easy task to get to it, and with all the tiny ribbon cables that have to be reconnected, it is a risk either way. Here is the video showing where it is...

But PLEASE provide the exact center point or either a rectangular or circular cut into the computer case. THANKS!

    OMG you chose to ruin the case over unscrewing 12 screws...

    • @jaynesnetwork
      @jaynesnetwork  6 лет назад +1

      It is actually quite a bit more complex than removing 12 screws. There are multiple ribbon cables, and plugs that are difficult to unplug, and once you get the computer apart, the battery is on the back side of the mother board, so the whole mother board must be removed. It is just a suggestion. Both paths have significant risk.

One piece he forgot to show. The new duct tape BIOS battery cover. Cheers Doctor !!
