Thank You! I purchased a guitar that had the Lyric system already installed. The previous owner installed the battery on the block that contains the serial number and model number. They also wire tied to the top sound board. I removed the entire system and purchased a new battery pack pouch and adhesive clips from our friends over at StewMac.I cleaned up the old install and followed your instructions. The Lyric works extremely well. All wires are secured properly and are out of sight and away from the sound board. This was very helpful. Thanks again!!
Awesome! Glad this helped. I have installed every model of pickup that LR Baggs makes now. My new favorite is the HIFI. It has a great sound. The Lyric is very solid.
I’m trying to decide on a pickup for a D18, and I think I’m going with a k&k pure mini. It seems like the least invasive of any acoustic pickup I’ve seen. The lyric was also on my short list.
The LR Baggs HiFi is my pick of all the acoustic pickups now (it is pretty new). I have had pretty much every LR Baggs pickup and I've had the K&K pure mini on 3 or 4 guitars.
Yeah, that would have been great. I didn't have an amp at home at that time...I plugged into the one at church to test it. Sorry about that. I installed a K&K Pure Mini on another guitar I have (Simon & Patrick) and I think I like the sound of it even better. The mini was a little harder to install, and doesnt have a volume selector, but I get more volume out of it and the sound is great. The Lyric was easier to install though.
@@PatrickParsonWorkshop Well, thanks again for posting the install...it gives me the huztbah to do it myself. Thanks for the feedback on the K and K pure Mini. I wonder how much of it was the guitar vs. the pickup. Still a bit torn betwix the two, but given your experience leaning towards K and K again.
I like the Lyric mic. I have had a few of them. That said, I'd rather have a Jimmy. Not sure what it is about blue muppets that gets me right in the ticker. 🙂
Thank you so much! I know exactly what you mean about the blue muppets. Since you love them too, I will tell you the story of Jimmy (I've never told anyone this online): Jimmy started his life as a Jim Henson Studios Whatnot. I don't believe they make them anymore. They were the random muppet that you would see in a Sesame Street scene...like muppet extras. I bought him on Ebay, after having the idea of adding a sidekick to my channel. Jimmy DiResta, the famous artist/maker/RUclipsr was the inspiration. He is a guy who knows how to make anything (and shouldn't a sidekick on a DYI channel know how to do everything?). He was made with a leather jacket and had a completely different look. I found some very small clothes (0 - 3 months old), hat, and doll glasses. I made his beard out of a throw pillow that had that material. I found the little Jimmy patch at an antique store. I thought he looked like he came from the northeast (NY, NJ...), so I tried to give him that accent. I use camera and editing tricks to fit him into the scenes and I do all the puppeteering and voice myself. Figuring out how to fit him into the video is really my favorite part of doing this. I love him and he makes me laugh...which is weird, because I am him. Well, maybe a true muppet fan can understand. Thanks for your comment. Hope you keep watching!
Great video. I'm installing one this weekend and have watched a number of them. LOL Questions: Curious, why did you switch from the step bit to the 1/2", accuracy maybe? Also, and again curious, why you didn't put masking tape over the hole to lessen the chances of tear out on the outside of the guitar? Not being critical, just trying to learn from as many artisans as possible. Thank-you.
Sorry for the delay in responding. I would assume you have already taken the plunge by now. I had to switch from the step bit to the 1/2" because I had to drill all the way through the tail stock (several inches). Masking tape probably would have been a good idea. I got lucky and had very minimal tearout. Hope your install went well.
I did what you did. Step bit till 7/16 and then 1/2. Interesting I didn't get any tear out and I didn't masking tape it. If doing again I would though. Thanks again for the inspiration you provided.

Nice to see Jimmy back in the shop! You drilling that hole made me so nervous!!
You and me both!

Wow, no hearing the lyric after install? Great install video, though, thanks!!
