This episode was a canon event, and I mean that in the best way possible. Not only was it amazing, but Saitama's characterization near the end with him finally finding an opponent he can fight after a single punch in the form of Popeye was so well-recieved that I believe it allowed Death Battle to continie doing more heartwarming and bittersweet character moments like this going forward.

What a coincidence, I was just looking up One Punch Man and then this showed up. This was honestly the BEST way to cap off S8. Both in terms of animation Fight Scenes and Characterization for Saitama and Popeye.
This is literally second to the best finale we had in Death Battle so far, and the fact that they combined all animation styles (hand-drawn, sprites, and 3D) for this fight was like the best way to celebrate their 10 year anniversary season.
If you look at the sides, you can see the first hit between them completely destroyed the side shops on that street. I like to think that one of those shops was Saitama's favorite, and that's why he chose to fight to the death.

It's a shame that one of the deciding factors (that there was supposedly no evidence that Saitama can grow stronger) was proven wrong right after this episode came out. Now we know that this fight would likely just go on forever, or until they both get bored

one thing that's really cool I noticed about this fight is how the animation moves between a past and future style based on who has the upper hand they start out in a modern hand drawn style and it shifts back in time to 8 bit when Saitama is surprised by the rubber hosing attack the 8 bit style is forced back to the modern style when Saitama hits Popeye so hard he launches him into the atmosphere Saitama gets the upper hand again as he's the one forcing Popeye into the homemade meteorite, bringing us to a more futuristic 3D style and it only goes back to the original style when Popeye gets the fight back under control and throws Saitama at the screen Literally a fight between old and new
The best thing about this match up is how close it can be. We have a man who can be envisioned to do anything due to overwhelming power and a man who can do anything because he eats his spinach. I wonder how close this matchup can be when One Punch Man eventually finishes and answers a lot of what Saitama can do
