    I have heard of guys getting asked "what did our share price close at yesterday?". Its important also to know the business part of the airline you are interviewing for because at the end of the day it's a business that wants to make a profit.

    Hey Mentour.
    I’ve watched your videos now and again and recently subscribed to you. Love your videos and I take all of your advice seriously. I’m going through CPLEMIR training at the moment and thinking a lot about my employability, so please indulge me a little.
    Here’s my problem with the personality tests used for interview processes: they’re not reliable enough to analyse individuals. The research shows that, CLEARLY. These tests were originally designed for research purposes and can in no way accurately map someone’s personality. I say this because I studied this both in psychology and sports psychology at university.
    Yet of course, these personality tests are highly attractive to airlines. A company changes around a little bit the 4, 16, or 32 trait tests and then claim it as their own, saying that they’ve specifically tailored it to accurately tell you what a candidate is really like.
    Therefore, despite all the research that shows that this is a rather unjust and inaccurate practice, its use has been on a steady increase not just by airlines, but also by flight schools and industries outside aviation. Oxford Aviation for instance, do regularly fail potential students purely because of their personality test results, even though they excel in all other areas of the psychometric tests, sim ride, group exercises, and interview.
    With that in mind, why should we not try to tailor our answers to what we think the airline wants, assuming that we thoroughly research the airline, the type of people employed there, and the personality tests used? What’s your personal opinion on the matter?
    Either way, I do consider very carefully EVERYTHING you and other people more experienced than myself have to say. You all know way more than I do after all. Thanks very much for the videos

    First of all a great very informative channel you have!
    Secondly, I've been wondering about personality types suited for pilots. Would you consider yourself and your collagues in the business extroverts?
    Being strongly introverted myself I am a bit terrified by these group exercises or social interaction tests. I feel like my personality is the biggest reason to fail while the love and interest into aviation is there I just feel that most companies always want very extroverted people instead of the "lonewolfs".
    Anyone else have experience or tips on this? Cannot really lie to them about your own personality...

    Hello - this video was very informative. However, I have a question; my abstract mathematic skills are slightly wonky for some reason, but I do pretty well at applied mathematics. I have looked at a few aptitude tests online, where some are applied mathematics and others just pure abstract. Based on your experience, what type of mathematics are usually recommended to become and airline pilot. Is there any high-level stuff like calculus? Cheers.

      Adrien Rassat from what I’ve heard most is just basic operations (add, multiply, etc.) Also I don’t know where you are but in Canada many schools will accept you with good marks in college preparation classes. However I am no precessional.

      Adrien Rassat so it's been 2 years, are you a pilot now?

    Thank you very much for you insight into the industry. I am a new private pilot from Canada about to start the CPL soon. Here we need over 3000 hours to get anywhere close to a jet so I am far away from a jet cockpit. I am interested in learning more about hand flying the 737. More specifically how often do you get to disconnect the autopilot and flight director and fly raw data. I have heard that many airlines turn on the autopilot shortly after rotation and disconnect it during short final. If that is the case then how do you keep your hands and feet sharp?

      How’s the flying going?

    • @Micg51

      I fly an E175 in the US, but I’d say most handfly up to 10-15,000 ft and disconnect anywhere from minimums to around 1500 ft. You wouldn’t turn off the FD unless you were on a visual approach and were using it for guidance. We leave the auto throttle on all the time unless it’s gusty and it can’t keep up.

    Incredible video ! I wish it was out before I did mine haha Thank you.
    I have one technical question for you. Could you explain how exactly you plan your descents on the B737 if you want to do them without using VNAV ? Also what mode would you use ? LVL CHG / VS ?
    Keep up the good work !

    • @luer0211
      @luer0211 9 лет назад

      Fre4Kz The way I was taught during my MCC/JOC was to use LVL CHG mot of the time. Of course descending with LVL CHG will cause a quite rapid descent with A/T engaged as thrust will be reduced to idle. So if we wanted a slower descent we would use V/S combined with MCP SPD.
      Could be that I am not totally right, but Petter can correct me :)

    • @SKApuNx2711
      @SKApuNx2711 9 лет назад

      In LVL CHG, to decrease the rate of descent, you can use a bit of thrust :) That's why the A/T is in ARM mode.

      Fre4Kz Ah! That is new info to me. Thanks!

      Fre4Kz VNAV is the preffered method for descends and descend planning on the 737, V/S is mostly used to comply with vertical speed restriction by ATC or at the final inbound turn for the ILS, to achieve perfect CDA on to the glideslope. LVL CHG is good for all the other situations (lets say you get a direct or a heading which ruins your vnav profile or for profile corrections) I'm not a real 737 pilot so Petter can correct me I guess.

    What if you don't have an engineering background or aren't really good in maths ? Will it hinder you from getting an airline interview? Really insightful video though!

    Hi Mentour,
    I have one question for you! I did my MCC/JOC and in the right hand seat I was PF and in the left hand seat I was PM. In an assessment if you are in the right hand seat you are PF only? Thank you very much
