Thomas Edwards That still won't get you min 60 fps in every game. probably best to wait and see what comes out this year as 4k will be more a target than it was last year.
+Kylorfo113 dont feel bad, i was forced to skip the 700 series just to buy a gpu, luckily when i had the money the 900 series released and i went for a 970. if i were you id save more and go 970, itll take longer but its worth it
+Kylorfo113 i was in the same boat and also got a gtx 960. if you just play at 1080p i think you'll be happy with it, i am. most games can be played at ultra pretty easily.
I think Linus should find out how fast he can make his ending plug because that was honestly the fastest I have ever heard him say it in all of his videos.
Jake let me change my name Dagger back to normal How do the coolers look 'not very air efficient'...whatever 'air efficiency' is? Last time I checked, the ACX 2.0 cooler is one of the best on the market. I can't get my EVGA 980 to hit 70C on a quiet fan profile, overclocked up to 1520MHz and up against its 124% power limit.
Jake let me change my name Dagger back to normal yeah man whatever, i'm not a super pro in this matter but tek syndicate say so, linus tech tips say so, ncix tech tips say so and so on. almost every review i saw said so. whatever you're gonna say after this i just want you to know that i don't really care and all i do is saying what other has before me.
FFXIIManiac Yeah, was just thinking before how Linus always swings hands everywhere in his videos, but never hits any tech on the desk. He did hit them now.
I'm kinda interested in seeing a video about the Ifixit tool kit explaining how some of the more ambiguous tools can be used when working on electronics, or more specifically - computers.
can't help but think when he says that 4k on the 970's was unbearable, he ran into the 970's Vram issue without knowing it, as far as i can tell, this video was uploaded before the Vram thingy became an hot issue, and he kinda just was a victim for that..
It's still surprising to see how much "bang for the buck" the second tier gpu(970) is compared to the flagship model. By the way, great video as always Linus
Hi mate I bought the Silverstone FT02 for the reason that you stated regarding the heat of the sandwiched cards, I run 2x780s vertically and the gpu temps even in the summer months the gpus under full load (10hr long gaming sessions :) ) never go above 80oC with the bottom fans in the case on the lowest setting (very quiet) on the higher setting (not at all loud) the temps never go above 68oC!!! I have wrote many comments even to Silverstone itself regarding this amazing case after my last Silverstone case the TJ09! its amazing good at air cooling.
Diego R You need x79 or x99 for 3 way sli and above as each card requires 8 lanes, AMD is different., You can buy a premium board on non extreme platforms that uses a work around to allow 3 way SLI but the boards tend to be double the price of regular boards. I was looking at one for z97 which was around £250 quid not long ago.
GlenwingKyros ???? Can't say I know much about it but I thought that was for enabling SLI on non SLI boards, Not a way to get additional lanes, I may be wrong though I haven't taken much interest in it.
nasha thedog Yes, but it also allows you to run SLI on x4 lanes. You don't need more than that if you have PCIe gen3, it's just an artificial restriction put in place by NVIDIA.
I hope he uploads it tomorrow or tonight! I think that's the B326HK 32" 4K IPS one. I'm a few days from buying, but this will make me rush the purchase if he reviews it well.
I filmed some footage doing the unboxing, I guess when Linus does a movie nobody will watch mine anymore so I'd keep from wasting time doing that unboxing lol
bikeinmotion Takes a lot of luck, charisma and timing the market for this type of infotainment to become a well known streamer. There is a lottery element to it. Linus is pretty good however the adverts are becoming larger segments of the show.
I'd really like to see 2X 970's vs 1 980 as it better reflects what I think someone with a moderate budget would be looking in to as you can pick up a 970 now and get one to add later or save a bit and pick up one 980.
진독고 AMD is Crossfire, Nvidia is SLI. Wonder why they couldn't just call it the same thing. LOOK AT OUR MARKETING TEAMS DOING THE EXACT SAME THING UNDER A DIFFERENT NAME, lol
Wait a second, are you fuckin' serious?! How cheap are GPU's in the US?! $550 for a 980? Here in Sweden, and on Amazon.co.uk, they go for upwards of $820. I mean, why in the name of fuckshits are they so expensive in Europe?
Their prices are usually without VAT, so the $550 card ends up being closer to $700 for most people (at least as far as I know). I'm usually happy if I can get the same "number" in euros as in dollars.
Niosus It does differ by state but I can't think of any that go past 10% tax (usually ~7%). In my state they will only be charging tax if you buy off Amazon. Amazon built a distribution center here so it is seen as a "local" business. Which means I just purchase on Newegg.
Niosus The only time you have to pay tax in the US when buying from an online retailer is if that retailer is based in the same state as you or has a brick and mortar facility in the same state as you. If I order a GTX 980 from Newegg for $550 that's exactly what I'm paying for it because Newegg is based in California and I'm not in California. If I was in California I would have to pay state sales tax for it.

Sanic That's not true, Plus many of the games that do have multi card support don't get it until long after the game actually released making it too late for many.
nasha thedog it's 100% true. Any game that doesn't use 2 GPUs, Nvidia makes drivers to let 2 cards work. Star craft 2 has no sli support yet I can get 60% usage on both my 780ti.
Sanic All I can say to that is you either don't play that big a selection of games or you simply dislike being disagreed with. As I said there is many games without proper sli support and there is plenty of titles that do not get support until after release. I have suffered this first hand and am now back on a single card set up because of it. Then you say any game that doesn't use 2 gpu's has drivers made by Nvidia. WTF??? It's all drivers. If a game engine does not support SLI (there's a recent one I can't remember which, was it used for The Evil Within?) then that's it you don't get it. The majority of games engines do support sli/crossfire however you need drivers for a good experience and both companies are often late with that. We just had this with some of the big releases. (Beyond earth, FC4?) I can't remember which exactly as I got out of it due to the lacklustre slow support we get. You just gave an example of how slow they can be. How longs SC2 been out?
Linus, you have to do buyer's guides for people who live outside the US and Canada because things get A LOT more expensive once you start shipping overseas, for example a GTX 970 costs $500 here and a GTX 980 costs $800-$900.

desktopevil Forget minecraft. That monster will be able to play Watch_Dogs on the highest settings at 60 fps minimum. Minecraft probably at around 6000 fps.
perfect video in my opinion. The conclusion was obvious but it was the testing and explanation of only benefiting from a very small library of games with 3 way SLI.
Well, at least you guys only pay 800 bucks, Malaysian need to pay 2000 bucks even though it is only a bit more expensive than MSRP cuz the small money value.
+Windwalker 95 no it has 4gb! I have 970gtx and playing few games hitting around 3.8gb there is absolutely no fps drop nor a slowdown or whatever. The 4gb can be reached fully and you still will have smooth gameplay. Talking from my own experience i was expecting big slowdown at higher 3.5gb but there wasn't
Alucard8319 dude, don't fool yourself... if nvidia agreed to it having 3.5, it has 3.5, also the slowdown only occurs when you access the other .5, so that may be why you see no drop... i've had a 970 so i know this....
Maybe your model, the manufacturer (e.g. Gigabyte, MSI, Asus, etc) may of put in their own stuff, like how my GTX 960 with 4gb of ram, but Nvidia say it has 2gb, because that is the 'stock' version, as you could say.
linus I would love if you make a video to show what's the difference between water cooling liquids and how to maintain it the whole water cooled system.
Lol, at 4:39, the bottom axis is labelled as "Temperature in Celsius" instead of "Watts from the wall", it's very minor, I'm actually surprised I spotted it
Linus, I just want to thank you for uploading more relevant content that your viewers would really like to see :) its much more entertaining than just seeing you review some product that most people haven't even heard of or even considered buying. I hope your move to the new warehouse will allow you to make tons of more interesting and entertaining content :)
Good information but, my god man, how many cups of coffee do you have before you start recording? You sounded like speedy Gonzales from bugs bunny, epa, epa, arriva, arrive, andale, andale....love your passion, great job!
Thanks a lot for this helpful little guide. I'm planning on getting a GTX 970 next year once I save up (or whatever else is new in the Nvidia market by then at roughly the same price) and im just hoping to run full 1080esolution. I've seen some footage of Far Cry 4 in 4K full HD, and they still managed to get around 35fps, so im ooking forward to around 60, or maybe 70 fps on average. Might start to record too for RUclips :-)
I know the R9 390X didn't come out at the time of this video, but it is in the middle of the gtx 970 and 980 (slightly closer to the 980) and it is great in crossfire or even just as a single card solution
OMFG! You are gaming at 4K on the Acer B326HK! Please tell me a review is coming this week! I am literally about to pull trigger, and word has been positive mostly, but a LinusAPproved will push me over the edge to buy it for sure!
Interesting. 2x 980 is what you need for 4K60 games today. So probably not the next generation, but the one after that you'll be able to comfortable game on 4K with a single card on ultra settings. So probably by early 2016 playing on slightly lower settings on a slightly cheaper card will be a viable option for 4K. This is happening faster than I expected.
So I did my daily computer research. And I started wondering which videocards support 3 or 4 way sli and then I came here and I was like: ,,YEEESSSS!!! It's Linus!!
@linus tech tips would you please make a follow up for the 1060,70,80,80ti cards since this could be very affordable for some and we'd love to know what we are spending our money on! :)

Thomas Edwards That still won't get you min 60 fps in every game. probably best to wait and see what comes out this year as 4k will be more a target than it was last year.

A big point you haven't made is compatibility with peoples rigs, 90% of gamers can't run 3 way SLI because of the pcie lanes available to them.
That also depends on the chipset. You don't need X99 to run 3/4 way CFX/SLI
Diego R You need x79 or x99 for 3 way sli and above as each card requires 8 lanes, AMD is different., You can buy a premium board on non extreme platforms that uses a work around to allow 3 way SLI but the boards tend to be double the price of regular boards. desktopevil Forget minecraft. That monster will be able to play Watch_Dogs on the highest settings at 60 fps minimum. Minecraft probably at around 6000 fps.
I play mine craft at 1k+ fps all settings up with my evga Titan black hydro-copper would recommend it
Sorry mate but you couldn't play Minecraft on that, need a PSU
1 gtx 1080 vs 2gtx 1070s vs 3 gtx 1060s
you cannot sli 1060s :(
Also the reason I didnt get them
RustCakes this comment was before the 1060s released
Jason Weills oh
That and sli isnt 3 way anymore
2018: A 2080 Ti costs $1300
Great sponsor. First one I've watched all the way through in a while. Good choice.
perfect video in my opinion. The conclusion was obvious but it was the testing and explanation of only benefiting from a very small library of games with 3 way SLI.
i paid 800 for one 980....
Australia why you do dis
Well, at least you guys only pay 800 bucks, Malaysian need to pay 2000 bucks even though it is only a bit more expensive than MSRP cuz the small money value.
well that sucks
i dont think you can get amazon to deliver in australia
***** yeah i got my one when it came out but its still way to expensive
New Zealand is even worse, slightly over 1000 for one
SLI GTX 970 ONLY PLAYS CS GO FUCK MY MONEY
+Baska SOME CSGO STREAMER (I THINK IT WAS KITTYPLAYSGAMES) BOUGHT A 15,000$ PC FOR CSGO ARGHH
What's is cs go?
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, a FPS by Valve.
+Petr Janda how's that rock
+FiNiTe just checked it out. looks fancy as fuck, and she probably had to pay someone to build it
lol he said the 970 has 4 gigs of vram XD
Lol, it actually has 3.5 gb
4 gigs.its distributed weirdly and can cause performance hitches briefly, as you saturate the 3.5 gigs of vram.
Thanks for this Video an Happy First Week in the New Year from Germany :)
linus I would love if you make a video to show what's the difference between water cooling liquids and how to maintain it the whole water cooled system.
Simple, 2x 980ti
Simple : 2x Titan XP lol, Well New architecture didnt give this Powerboost in sli like older :(
i hate being broke
+SwayzesGhost we all do
+Ferrariassassin
Your broke but your G/F bought you a 980Ti sounds like a good deal to me lol
+Malafor only.... if you have a gf .-.
+Ferrariassassin ill cry like a bitch for an r9 380 4g xfx and a skylake i3 6100 :)
Do you think the i3 6100 will bottleneck a 380 oc.?
8:00 Eminem have a good oponent in fast talking without mistake.xd
Or only for me talking in english that fast is slightly too fast.xd (I'm from Poland)
Lol, at 4:39, the bottom axis is labelled as "Temperature in Celsius" instead of "Watts from the wall", it's very minor, I'm actually surprised I spotted it
4:38 that is one hot setup you got there..
Would really like to see a similar video with a 970 two-way SLI setup, as I'm currently using a 670 two-way SLI setup in my rig.
4:37 Load Power Test, Temperature in Celsius. Didn't see the title at first so I was quite shocked to see 510C O.o
Very nice video. Keep up the good work.
We need you to do a video comparison on best chairs for computer work-gaming :)
I would love to see the results with the boards overclocked, especially with those G1's.
4:38, nice temperature you have there (according to X - axis label) 510 In celsius :D
wow Linus my heart stopped for a second win you knocked over the three cards.
4:38 "Load power test" and down on the bottom: "Temperature in celsius" GG
Thanks a lot for this helpful little guide. I'm planning on getting a GTX 970 next year once I save up (or whatever else is new in the Nvidia market by then at roughly the same price) and im just hoping to run full 1080esolution. I've seen some footage of Far Cry 4 in 4K full HD, and they still managed to get around 35fps, so im ooking forward to around 60, or maybe 70 fps on average. Might start to record too for RUclips :-)
I've always been wondering when you were going to knock down something while fanatically gesticulating and... there we have it.
Hey Linus! I'll glady take one of those 970's off your hands. I'll even take the dropped one! Thanks buddy.
Thanks for the GPU tests, but could u also test it with the newest games that are out? Such as inquisition and FC4, etc.
Finally the video I've been waiting for. Linus in a 3-way setup ;)
Woah.... They mentioned price on linustechtips
LOOL Very Good!! What is that for a Box there you installed the Mainboard ?
5:25 thanks linus for the heart attack
I know the R9 390X didn't come out at the time of this video, but it is in the middle of the gtx 970 and 980 (slightly closer to the 980) and it is great in crossfire or even just as a single card solution
Can you please start showing benchmark results for games like Battlefield 4 and not just singleplayer but multiplayer performance also.
OMFG! You are gaming at 4K on the Acer B326HK! Please tell me a review is coming this week! I am literally about to pull trigger, and word has been positive mostly, but a LinusAPproved will push me over the edge to buy it for sure!
erzascralet48 So far I really like it, but the full review will take at least a week or so I think.
LinusTechTips gaben.amigocraft.net/
linus should do a video to compare the temps of reference and aftermarket coolers in sli or xfire
I feel like he was trying to break the record for how fast he could do the outtro in this one xD
Can you include rendering results with comparison SETUPS!
GJ fast talk op. Can you do the same, using 1- 980 and 2- 970
Interesting.
I wonder if the 4k stuttering in games on the 970s was caused by the 3.5 gb limitation on the 970s rather than being in triple sli
I miss unboxing reviews. That's why I started following this channel.
I wonder if the stutters he was talking about at 4k are due to the 970 memory issue
Very likely, as far as I'm informed.
I really wish they would do a follow up with the 10 series
so what do you do with all of the video cards you've bought for the past years 0.0
mama sapano they get them sponsored, they have to send most of them back
very late reply dude hahaha
Do a water cooling rig with a single honda car radiator. That would be a very interesting video.
So I did my daily computer research. And I started wondering which videocards support 3 or 4 way sli and then I came here and I was like: ,,YEEESSSS!!! It's Linus!!
I love how Linus aways seems to drop something or trip something over in ever other video lately
Linus when are you gonna realease Part 3 of the full room water cooling!
@linus tech tips would you please make a follow up for the 1060,70,80,80ti cards since this could be very affordable for some and we'd love to know what we are spending our money on! :)
That goose-neck thing holding the noctua fan over the gpus. Where can I buy that?!
2:52 16 thousand cuda cores O.O wow that 970 should be top dog for atleast 20 years with that much cores under its belt
OMG IFIXIT STARTED IN MY TOWN!!!!! THEY ALSO HAVE A HEADQUARTERS THERE. SORRY FOR CAPS LOCKS.
you getting faster and faster at saying the outro lol good informative video btw
5:24 wish they edited that out. Man, that was really painful to watch.
