Can I just give you guys a round of applause? It must of been such hard work restoring this beast back into working order, you guys tried your hardest to bring back this amazing legend and you smashed it. Well done!
I have to be honest with you mate, the train didn't need much restoring as it has been kept in great shape ever since world war 2 however apparently one of the wheels fell of at one point?
I really do hope they find a way to do away with the smoke deflectors and repaint her LNER green, I know the NRM has a policy of maintaining locos in as close to historical condition as possible but god darn it I really want to see the engine the way she was from mid 60s onwards, she looked stunning 80's really want to see her back in that state, or at the very least how she looked initially back in 1999 at the conclusion of that overhaul-if they have to keep the double chimney.
I kinda like the Brunswick Green. If they're going to keep the double chimney and smoke deflectors they might as well keep it in a livery that's historically accurate to that running condition.
National Railway Museum My number 1 favorite number for the LNER Class A3 Flying Scotsman (1923) today in the 21st century (2000-) part of the 3rd millennium (2000-) is 4472.
Flying Scotsman is a she, and like Steve says, we barely got her back last time and to be honest we would like to keep her. She belongs to us and in my opinion giving the A4's to the other countries was a big mistake. (My opinion).
Jordan Orriss true, but I’m a Thomas and friends fan so I will call flying Scotsman a he. But that’s my way. And I would love flying Scotsman to come to America again because I live their. I also love England and I also don’t like American trains. I like British ones instead.
Ketching The kipper I don't blame you for liking English railways more than US. We invented the steam engine and the American ones show all the pipe work which doesn't make it look very nice either. :) So I do agree with you. English is better.
Jordan Orriss yeah and the American steam engines almost always have that same design choice like the rail companies were coping each other to cut costs. By the way I live in America is that wrong.
where is the flying scotsman now? is it still at the NRM because i would want it to go to Fresno California America because i have never seen a steam engine in my entire life not even british ones so coud you send one over?
she only had the water tender when the water water trough's started disappearing, but after her ill fated tour of the states she never needed it after that
Sir William McAlpine made some changes to Flying Scotsman in 1973, after her return from America she was sent with the two tenders to Derby, where she received her number 4472 on the cab sides, a black nameplate, and the tender with LNER, and the second tender having BR Corporate Blue. He eventually sold the tender to Bittern, the engine that has it as its second tender.
do they use a crane to lift it in order to rotate the wheels to mount the side rods? also how do the wheels get out of sync in the first place.. always wondered lolol
No. At least that's how we not do things here in the states. There's a way that we do it and it's called a sliding adjustment. You put a metal rod through the wheel casting spokes and then through the frame and then you grease the rail. You hook another engine up on the front and drag the locomotive forward until the wheel that you're working on matches up with the rod pieces that are on the other wheels. When they restored Sierra Railway number three about 10 years ago now that's how they got the driving rods back onto the wheels. They pulled the locomotive forward so the leading driver would be in a line, attached the rod that connects it to the crosshead, froze that wheel by placing the bar through the wheel and then into the frame, then dragged the locomotive forward to line up the next driver and then repeated the process for the last driver. Kind of a backwards way to do it but it works.
@@FutureRailProductions interesting!! But wouldn't the loco be in the workshop at the time they're mounting the side rods? And if so, why would they take it out and go through that process to line up the crank pins rather than just do it with the loco in the air in the shop?
While i personally like the smoke deflectors (Pretty Unpopular opinion i know), i Also agree that the Scotsman should’ve been painted in their apple green livery, i mean if Tornado can pull it off than Surely Scotsman can.
the idea of a railway musium is great to be able to visit & be able to see these fantastic engines, but more importantly they should be out more often all over the uk, doing what they were built to do, & when any require new boiler,s or any other work, they should be given new boiler,s or what-ever else, to keep them running, the mallard & the union of south africa, two of the fastest steam engines there is , are sitting in musiums, needing new boiler,s, which is a disgrace that they are not given new boiler,s, there should be no questins asked when a new boiler needs to be fitted, & there should already be new boiler,s sitting waiting for when they are required, & the more a steam train is to be used, there would be a need for huge amounts of coal, so that would keep people in work mining coal, & opening mine,s up where there is plenty of coal, but the country is obcessed with listening to the do-good brigade enviromentalists, that are obcessed with renewable energy, electric trains, car,s, wind turbines & all that crap.
I have stated elsewhere that I don't like those dogs ears looking smoke detectors on Scott, but I will also say thankyou to those who did all that was required to get this fabulous locomotive back on track.
TPLANE7 GAMEZ bruh thats the flying freaking scotsman, just not in her infamous lner green livery and no. 4472. Do some research man, use the internet wisely. Just sayin.
On,y 3% of the train is original, after the next restoration, the train will be brand new, I have said this before, they should just a cosmetic restoration, and leave it alone,
That little class 08 sure gets to hang out with some distinguished friends.

I personally love the 4472 LNER livery so striking

The NRM actually has a digital HD scan of Sir Nigel Gresley’s original drawings for the A1 design
I love that their own 08 is called Matey, and is no less shiny than all the other engines.
I kinda like the Brunswick Green. If they're going to keep the double chimney and smoke deflectors they might as well keep it in a livery that's historically accurate to that running condition.

Hope you come back Scotsman!😘
please tell me you did a photo shoot of it with the Mallard in this video! iconic imagery right there!
I would love to see a miniature version of this train, like the ones that people get to ride on.

Why?
I don’t think he’d like the livery Scotsman is currently wearing

Jordan Orriss yep!
Scotsman can stay in England.
After her last experience in the USA, no chance.
I like the scotsman better with the 4472 number and the 2 tenders without smoke deflectors!
The Scotsman never had two tenders originally
it never has 2 tenders in britain, i think the other tender was scrapped after the trip to Austrailia
she only had the water tender when the water water trough's started disappearing, but after her ill fated tour of the states she never needed it after that
no the second tender went to another locomotive probably an A4

Where is the side rods
this is a preparation before her inaugeral run
its missing the rods that turn its wheels 0.0
Taken off for transpott, reduces wear to the bearings on the wheels where the rods go
